My personal career goal My personal career goal is to become a director at GEICO where I currently work. To become a director, there are several things that have to be done to prepare you for the position. The first requirement is getting a bachelor’s degree in business. Your education isn’t limited to college, but there are required classes that are required within GEICO that they are required to take also. The second requirement is following the management path. The first one is being a coach, complete the supervisory preparatory program (SPP), become a supervisor, complete the management preparatory program (MPP), become a manager and then after being a manager one can become a director. She had me to write down my career goals and what steps I planned on taking, and how I plan on achieving them. We reviewed my list and the main thing that I was missing was a bachelor’s degree. Since that was the most important factor. I enrolled at Georgia Military College. Outside of speaking with my director, I wanted to know other things that a director do. I saw that it was a lot similar to a regional manager that I found in occupational outlook. I saw that a director and a regional manager shared similar job functions. I saw that they should have excellent motivational and supervisory skills and be able to establish and prioritize team sales objective. Communication and leadership skills are important and maybe beneficial when it comes to recruiting, hiring, training and retaining talent. They have an understanding of basic economic and business concepts. Jesse Owens once stated, “We all have dreams. But in order to make dreams come into reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self-discipline, and effort.” Athletic Directors run the business, it is their duty to keep everything running correctly and maintaining upkeep throughout their work environment. Athletic Directors can make or break a facility, many skills are needed to be successful in this job area. Being able to be organized, work under pressure, and communicate with others are big keys to success. This career is important because many people have a love for sports and sports need a person to support stability throughout time.
The few cons of a career as an athletic director are that you may have an erratic work schedule, may have heavy workloads at the beginning of sports seasons, and you have to be skilled in a variety of areas such as finances, management, and coaching. Why I am Suited for this Career? I have a sports background because of my sports participation in golf, baseball, basketball, football, and soccer. I took a sports management class my senior year in high school.
Working at a school would not have been a top choice but as an athletic director it seems fun and enjoyable. An athletic director oversees all school sports and makes sure that everyone follows the rules and does not disobey the coaches (Bean-Mellinger, Barbara). They also have to attend all games and matches that are scheduled (Hinginbotham, Heather). As well as attending all the games they have to hire the officials that are needed for the games (Higinbotham, Heather). Athletic directors also might have to fire coaches and other athletic department employees if needed (Bean-Mellinger, Barbara). They also have to set or approve job descriptions for each position (Bean-Mellinger, Barbara). Every athletic director job is different depending on the size of school; their daily routine might be different from others. In smaller schools the athletic director might have to teach classes as well as do their own job. But as for larger school they will only be an athletic director. In some jobs they are physical education teachers as well as an athletic director (Baccadutre).

I am applying for the acceptance into the Doctor Business Administration program at Liberty University. My aspiration and love of learning has lead me to pursuit this next step. My desire is to develop and obtain a greater emphasis of researching management and leadership. A DBA will expand my knowledge of what I have already obtained through my MBA. Paula, the special education director explained her background with human service work and what her different career fields was like for her, even in multiple different states that she worked for. Emily Smallwood, the Career Pathway Specialist, has a degree in psychology and assists the senior students with their next goal after graduation. We spoke about her experiences educationally and careers. She previously worked for multiple different companies like Healthy Families of America. Janet Gall is the college pathway specialist and assists students with taking the right steps towards meetings their goals and deciding on the right college as well as, preparing students for SAT’s, ACT’s, and the accuplacer. She too has worked for various companies in the human service field. Shelleen Dawalt is a life coach at the school, and previously worked for DCS, and the Department of Corrections and currently also works part time at Ivy Tech as a criminal justice instructor. Spending extra time with each of them was fantastic, I gained so much knowledge about other possible career
I plan to learn from others by helping coach in youth sports leagues to gain more experience. I also plan to put myself in situations that help improve my business and interpersonal skills. Being involved in these things will help put me in the best position to continue to pursue my profession in addition to my education. In order to become an athletic director, I need my bachelor’s degree and a lot of experience in areas that will help me succeed in the profession such as coaching. As I am preparing for a new chapter in my life, I have put a lot thought in about what I want out of life and what to look forward to as I get older. In order for one to achieve anything, they need to set goals to reach for. I have a handful of goals for my future, short term and long term, that I will actively work towards in my college years and beyond. In my time at UW Eau Claire, I plan to be involved and engaged in student activities on campus. Being active will help me meet new people, build a better resume, and have fun at college. What is my personal purpose? Is a question that I have never thought to ask myself until recently. Then when I started learning more about a personal purpose I started wondering if I have one and what it was. I never thought of myself has having a real purpose until a watched an interview Will Smith had did and he had said “When your life means something to someone other than yourself than you have a purpose.” That is when I realized that I have a purpose. My purpose is that I am the hug that let others know it is going to be ok. My personal goals is to be genuinely happy with myself and life and to make my parents proud, my career goal is to own my own business and being successful at doing so, finally, my educational goal is to get my bachelors degree and grauate with honors and even moving on to getting my masters. Having goals is important to me because I know that while I am in the process of accomplishing them I will have something great to look forward to in the end.
Life contains an unlimited amount of life lessons; my main life lesson has inspired me to never give up on myself or my goals. Through my life experiences I have learned that there is no such thing as failure. I am certain with myself that I can find success through hard work and dedication. My career aspiration is to help others as a healthcare professional. More specifically, I have a dream of pursuing a career in physical therapy.
