The “State of the World 2010: Transforming Cultures: From Consumerism to Sustainablity” is an annual report on the progress of humanity towards a sustainable society (State of the World 2010). It serves as a medium for informing and educating people on how they can implement sustainable practices in their lifestyle and contribute to the preservation of planet earth, by presenting facts and case studies focused on why it is important for cultures to start adopting more sustainable lifestyles. It not only provides clear and concise information that helps people gain a better understanding of the current situation of the world right now in terms of energy and resource use, but it also provides a guideline on how to transition from an unsustainable consumer culture to a more respectful and environmentally friendly one.

Through articles and case studies, The State of the World traces the importance and the benefits of engaging in sustainable practices in every area of life, as well as a detailed overview of which steps need to be taken to move towards a sustainable culture. The “Business and Economy: Management Priority” section provides an analysis of the negative impact business and economy is set to have in a sustainable future if a more sustainable management is not adopted, and specifications on how can they move towards a sustainable business environment. It includes a variety of articles that express concerns on the aggressive impact the consumer culture is currently having on the environment, emphasizing on the need of forging more sustainable practices in the economy.
