Throughout the story “The Hobbit” Bilbo, a hobbit, goes off on a journey. A journey may not seem like much but for a hobbit that never leaves his little hobbit hole it is. Throughout his journey Bilbo changes a lot from when he first sets off. At the beginning he is just very normal I would say. He stays at home and never leaves, he just sits in his chair blowing smoke rings out of his pipe most of the day. Then he goes off on this journey and it changes him. The journey turns him into a hero by its end.
Bilbo’s journey all starts one day he was sitting outside. Gandalf came up to him and even though Bilbo did not recognize him at first he soon realized it was Gandalf the great wizard. Gandalf tricked Bilbo into getting him to come to tea, while Bilbo thought it would just be Gandalf thirteen other dwarfs, Dwalin, Balin, Kili, Fili, Dori, Nori, Ori, Oin, Gloin, Bifur, Bofur, Bomber, and Thorin, came to tea. Bilbo found all this really annoying and wishes all the dwarfs and Gandalf would just leave, he did not like all these people in his house. Finally after the hobbit’s house was clean the dwarfs began to sing and tell stories of Smaug. Smaug was a dragon who had claimed the city of Dale which was Thorin’s father’s kingdom. Bilbo became very frighten about the stories told and when the dwarfs asked him to help them and be a burglar he was stunned. “I am quite sure you have come to the wrong house.” (19) Bilbo told them. He did not want to go off to a land he did not know and face a dragon for some reason that did not concern him. He just wanted to stay at home. This disappointed the dwarfs to some extent they did not believe Bilbo was all that important, but Gandalf did. The next day Bilbo woke up late in the morning to find a ...

Everyone around thought he was dead so they sold everything. So with the money he had he went and bought it all back from the people who bought it before.
By the end Bilbo had done many things to contribute to the way things played out. If Bilbo had not been there the dwarfs may not have been alive and the gold may be lost. Even though he had a lot of gold it wasn’t the gold that changed him. He had seen trolls, goblins, Gollum, elves, he killed giant spiders and talked to a dragon. He had saved the dwarfs live more then on one occasion. He wasn’t that hobbit who wanted to stay in his little hobbit hole anymore. He wasn’t even a hobbit who wanted adventures. Bilbo was now a hero.

He went from being a reluctant hero to an epic hero just from a few slight changes. Bilbo was almost forced out the door to begin his journey with the dwarves by Gandalf. He did not want to go on the journey and certainly did not feel the need to be a hero, although he reluctantly ended up being one in the book. In the movie, on the other hand, he had many opportunities to become the hero and he took these opportunities, becoming an epic hero. While change can greatly impact some things, it can also take away from important pieces of the
He left the hobbit, but not before he had scratched a sign on Bilbo’s door. The following day, Gandalf showed for tea, along with thirteen dwarves. This was the beginning of the adventures between the hobbit and the dwarves. The next day, Bilbo somehow found himself leaving his comfortable hobbit hole, and on what seemed to be an adventure. This was the beginning of not just one, but many adventures for Bilbo.
Bilbo cleverly eluded Smaug’s temptation, spared the life of foul creature Gollum, and demonstrate courage more and more throughout his journey. These exquisite traits made Bilbo into the revered character that was loved and respected for generations of readers. Throughout the book, Bilbo’s character had changed. At first, he was the ordinary hobbit who described adventures as “Nasty disturbing uncomfortable things” (4) but by the end of his journeys stated to Thorin, “I am glad that I have shared in your perils” (290). Bilbo’s ability to fight evil, make new friends, and to look beyond his maps and books enable him to become a hero. As Gandalf once said at the very beginning, “There is a lot more in him than you guess, and a deal more than he has any idea of himself” (19). Gandalf was right. What appeared to be an uneasy hobbit who fainted at the thought of adventures, turned out to be a brave leader, a compassionate friend, and an inspiring

The evil in the story were just test, trying to get Bilbo to give up and go back to his life of comfort, but he didn't he went on to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Tolkien wanted to show the reader how we can overcome our flaws in life such as greed, and temptation by stepping out of our comfort zone.
At the beginning of the novel, Mr. Baggins starts out at his comfy little hobbit home, but suddenly a grand, wise wizard shows up. Not long after, 12 dwarves began to appear, one by one at Bilbo’s door, and they have come to carry him off on a life-changing adventure, full of greed. That was the beginning of our hairy hobbit’s transformation from a shy, quiet hobbit, to a strong and bold life-saving hero, who enchants any who come in contact with him. For example of his strength and boldness, would be in chapter 5, when Bilbo rhymes riddles for an unknown creature, who calls itself Gollum. Bilbo would’ve been eaten if he were to have lost, but took his chances, and risked it anyway. After all, it did get him out of that goblin-infested cave.
Bilbo is “not the hobbit that [he was] before he left the Shire (Tolkien, 360). He has lost his reputation as a perfectly predictable Baggins, but he has gained “the honor of dwarves, wizards, and all such folk as ever passed that way” (Tolkien 361). He spends his time now “writing poetry and visiting the elves,” and despite all the other hobbits’ disapproval of Bilbo and his adventures, “he [remains] very happy to the end of his days” which are “extraordinarily long” (Tolkien 361).

Bilbo’s noblest moment in The Hobbit, a fantasy book by J. R. R. Tolkien, is when he gives up the Arkenstone, a precious jewel. He is commended by some for his graciousness of giving away such a treasure, for everyone was rushing to try to get it for themselves. Yet, Bilbo gave the stone to the Elvenking and went against of his friends to attempt to protect lives.
During The Departure period in The Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins lives a respected life with no adventures or anything unexpected like a hobbit should. Gandalf asks Bilbo to join the dwarves on their quest, “‘I am looking for someone to share in an adventure I am arranging’” (Tolkien 4). This serves as the call to adventure, the first part in the departure. The following part of the
Bilbo was a hobbit that didn’t do very much, but when Gandalf comes to ask him to go on an adventure he didn’t know if he wanted to go. When bilbo says that he’ll do it he seems to be a little shaky at first, but as the book keeps going bilbo gets braver, and saves the dwarves from danger on the way to the Lonely Mountain. Like when the dwarves ask him to go and get the treasure from the dragon. Such as the quote ” Now is the time for our esteemed Mr. Baggins(Bilbo), who has proved himself a good companion
Just before he leaves, Gandalf asks Bilbo for his ring. Due to the power in which the ring possesses while it is in his possession, he does not want to give it up. The novel ends with the destruction of the Fellowship due to the power in which the ring contains. One of the prime facts of the Middle Earth is power. Power is not neutral, but is always evil.
Bilbo begins his long journey with the dwarves, who at the time were still skeptical of Bilbo’s abilities. The dwarves didn’t see why they needed such a small incompetent hobbit with them along their journey. Gandalf tells them to stop complaining and to trust that there is more to Bilbo than meets the eye (Tolkien 6). Bilbo soon shows his courage and heroism for the first time in the story when they run into their first obstacle, three large trolls huddled around a campfire. Bilbo, who was once a shy, non-adventurous type, begins to develop into a hero as he tries to steal one of the trolls’ money purses. This is a dramatic scene in the novel because it was Bilbo’s very first act outside his comfort zone. It was this...
Now that they had made it inside the castle all they had to do was kill Smaug, so they can take back the Gold the rightfully belongs to the Dwarves. In The Hobbit Bilbo Baggins learns that he is more than just a hobbit that sat around smoking his pipe, into a sheep that follows others unaware of all consequences, than to a leader that helps the dwarves, and finally a Hobbit that is nothing like the old hobbit, for this hobbit has lived his life to the fullest and is ready to sit on his porch to smoke his
