Success is the accomplishment of an aim or purpose (Macmillan), Ben Carson was successful, but how? It would seem prosperity just requires academic success, and a good career choice, but in reality being triumphant requires certain attributes. Talent, Time, Hope, Honesty, Insight,to be Nice, Knowledge, In-Depth-Learning, and God are all of the aspects Dr. Carson thinks we need in order to be successful. . Not only are these traits essential for success, they can build your character as well. Although all of these traits are crucial, but a few of them are of more significance than the rest. This is in all ways true not only because of his success as a neurosurgeon, but because of his beliefs and his standards. One of the greatest things about him though, is his ability to use time to his advantage, and it really is one of the biggest keys to his success. It didn’t start out that way though, when he really learned how to manage time was his first year at Yale University. “After less than a week on campus, i realized i wasn’t all that bright.” (Carson 70), “Each day I slipped farther and farther behind, especially in chemistry.”(Carson 71). Carson was so caught up in his work, because of lack of time management, that he was failing freshman chemistry. Carson’s grades were below average and he was not grasping any of the concepts in his chemistry class. Nonetheless, Carson was still not using his time well and it resulted in chaos. “ It all came to a head at the end of first semester when I faced final examinations.” (Carson 71). Unfortunately, Carson crammed for exams last minute and did not have enough time to study in-depth so his only solution was to pray and hope. Luckily God provided him with an amazing miracle and Carson passed freshman chemistry.
