The clock is counting down until mom gets home what is she supposed to do… previously in the short story “Ashes” by Susan Beth Pfeffer Ashleigh or “Ashes” is the daughter of her divorced parents, her mom being the “non-dreamer” kind of person while her dad is a goofy fun loving kind of person. Later on in the passage Ash has to chooses whether to take $200 from her mom’s emergency money to give to her dad for a financial problem. Ashley did take the money because, she seemed very loyal to her dad, she wanted her dad to be able to pay off his financial problems, and she trusted her dad. Ash seemed very loyal to her dad, she seemed so loyal to her dad because In the text, she said “I wouldn't have any other dad”(pfeffer, 2) , which proves she loves him. Her loyalty and love for her dad means a lot, so she doesn't want to let him down. “Dad could make anyone in the world smile.”( this quote from the text proves Ash and her dad have a strong, happy bond. “ If I’ve done something , no matter how small, that made the world a better place i'm satisfied.” This statement made by Ash's dad means he will do anything for Ash and she knows it.
