Abortion: A Woman’s Personal Choice
When it comes down to abortion, there are two types of people, Pro-Life advocates and Pro-Choice advocates. Pro-Life advocates fight against abortion, these people believe that abortion is an abomination and should not be legal because it is wrong and it is the act of killing an innocent child. Pro-Choice advocates believe that women should have to choice as to whether or not they carry the fetus to term or end the pregnancy through abortion before it is taken to term. Pro-Choice advocates aren’t exactly supporting abortion as much as they are supporting the right to end a pregnancy through abortion.
There are many reasons that Pro-Life advocates fight the laws to allow abortion and one of them is their belief that abortion is murder of an innocent child

You don’t have the option of whether or not you want to be pregnant; once it happens it cannot be undone. Your pregnancy is God’s choice and you get the privilege of bearing one of his children. Many Pro-Life advocates quote the following scripture from the Holy Bible to support this belief: Jeremiah 1:5 that “Before I formed you in the belly I knew you; and before you came forth out of the womb I sanctified you, and I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”
Pro-Choice advocates believe that every woman should be able to choose whether or not her body changes and whether or not she wants to carry a child. Not even an accident should be able to change your course of life. No higher power should make decisions for you that can effect and/ or change your bodily image or its functions. This was argued in 1973 by Sarah Weddington in the case Roe v Wade, she states “Because of the impact on the woman… she should be allowed to make the choice as to whether to continue or to terminate her pregnancy” (Roe v
...ions over her own body; whether it is parenthood, adoption, contraception, or yes, abortion. After all, it is entirely plausible for people to be personally pro-life but politically pro-choice – this suggests that they respect each individuals’ rights over his or her own body and recognize that each woman should be allowed to have options. Regardless of whether or not she chooses to have the child, it is the fact that she has a choice that is crucial, and it is imperative that each woman have the freedom of individual autonomy. In order for this to occur, abortion must continue to be legal. Ultimately, being pro-choice is not necessarily advocating the use of abortion – it is about ensuring that abortion is legal so that women may have the option to exercise their right to individual autonomy and make the decisions that best reflects their stance in life.
Abortion has been the topic of controversy for many decades. Many people believe that when a woman terminates a pregnancy, she is committing murder and others argue that a woman has the right to choose life or abortion. There are different procedures to choose when having an abortion, depending on the gestational age and the woman 's health a pill form abortion may be used up to 9 weeks gestation (mifepristone and misoprostol), but for women who are over 12-weeks gestation (late-term abortion), surgical abortion is used (Berer 25). In 1973, the supreme court ruled that abortion was to be legalized, Roe vs. Wade. Women were given the legal right to choose to terminate their pregnancies and make the correct arrangements for their decisions. Different states have different restrictions to accessing abortion procedures, making the woman 's choice to terminate pregnancy less accessible. Restricting a woman 's access to appropriate abortion clinics limits her right to choose.
The birth of a child is usually a wonderful and priceless occasion. However, on June 5, 2015, an eleven-year-old girl gave birth to a newborn girl. Approximately a year before she gave birth, her 40-year-old father repeatedly sexually assaulted her. In this case, the unprepared eleven-year-old child decided to have the baby. This is a prime example that illustrates that the right to abortion should always be vested in the woman. Abortion, which has been debated for centuries and will continue to be fought upon for centuries to come, is a hot issue among social, political, and religious entities. This research paper will inform the reader about abortion using scholarly journals to define abortion, specifically when a fetus becomes a human being,
Cases like Webster v. Reproductive Health Services in 1989, Planned Parenthood v. Casey in 1992, but the most important one to acknowledge is Roe v. Wade in 1973. The Rode v. Wade case dealt with the right to privacy being extended to a woman’s decision to have an abortion. Prior to the case, Norma McCorvey found out that she was pregnant with her third child, but at this point in her life, she was not ready to take on the responsibility of another child. The only way she could have gotten an abortion at the time is if she claimed rape, which she did try but the plan failed to be that she didn't file a police report. In 1970, Roe v. Wade reached the Supreme Court, and it took three years to come to a decision in which they agreed that the right to privacy does indeed extend to a women’s body. This court case laid the foundation for cases like Casey v. Planned Parenthood to make way, and also create history. That court case reaffirmed the fact that women have a right to an abortion until the fetus is viable or able to live outside of the womb on its own. Women have the right to get an abortion being that it pertains to their body and if that is the choice they decide to make, that is their decision. Pro-choice means giving women back the control over their body, allowing them to speak on issues that concern them, and allows them to choose what is right for them without being forced
Abortion is a very controversial and sensitive topic in today’s society. Two different sides to this argument is pro-life and pro-choice. Pro-life proponents believe in the right to life for unborn fetuses saying that abortion should be considered murder regardless of how far along in the pregnancy the woman is. Pro-choice advocates people who believe the woman carrying the fetus should be able to make her own decision on aborting the fetus.
Pro-choice activists only focus on the positives of being able to choose whether a woman can keep her baby. They don’t look at the risks that come with abortion like “shame, guilt, and regret” (Chittom & Newton, 2015). Abortion doesn’t only effect a woman mentally, but also physically. There is a possibility of death or complications when having an abortion. Anything can go wrong even if it is rare for it to happen. I don’t believe a woman should put her physical health at risk in order to kill her own baby. It sound harsh saying the word “kill”, but that is the reality. Pro-choice supporters try to shy away from using phrases like “killing” and “baby” because of how harsh it sounds. They would rather use words like “fetus”, “embryo” and “annihilate”. Using those word make the reality of killing an innocent baby seem less harsh. They bring up reasons to support their stance like stating that “a woman must have the power to control a decision as significant as parenthood, and that individuals should be able to influence decisions to the same extent that those decisions affect their lives” (Anderson, 2015). Their reasoning isn 't good enough. A woman can have the power to make her own decisions at another time. She can decide many things for herself, but abortion shouldn 't be one of
How would you feel if someone decided that you should never get a chance at life? That
In the state of New York, abortion laws are less restrictive than some other state abortion laws. Some of the illegal portion of the abortion laws are (1) if pregnancy is not less than 24 weeks, and you get an abortion, (2) if abortion causes mother to die, (3) if the mother is taking any kind of drugs that would result in a miscarriage. Many people feel as if as soon as a woman is pregnant, that would mean that that fetus has a life and abortion shouldn 't happen because it 's murder. Most abortion are done by surgery but, all abortions stop the developing fetuses heart. Which to pro-life supporters, this is considered to be murder. Many people of pro-life are religious and believe that abortion is murder which is breaking one of the Ten Commandments. Within the first few weeks of conception, the fetus starts developing organs and body parts. Only at 6 weeks the baby is developing eyes, eyelids, nose, mouth, and tongue are being formed. People who agree with pro-life, their main concern is thinking that abortion is murder. There are also other reasons as well for people that believe in pro-life. After millions of women in America have aborted their child, there 's an emotional downfall that come with it. Many women experience
Many couples who cannot have their own children are patiently waiting for a child to be adopted, and abortions are taking away that opportunity from willing families. The other side of this controversy is called pro-choice. Pro-choice followers believe, as implied by the name, that a woman’s right to choose is more important than anything, even human life. The Roe vs Wade case of 1973 is the building block of their side of the argument, the ruling being “the right to privacy.” is enough protection to defend a woman’s reproductive rights (Roe v Wade 1973).
Abortion has been a controversial topic in the U.S ever since it became legal in 1973 after the Roe v. Wade case. Abortion is defined as the, “the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy.” Pro-life supporters believe that abortion is unethical and argue that it is the mother’s responsibility to own up to her actions. They also argue that there is always the option of adoption, and that abortion could be very dangerous. I am pro-life and believe that the government doesn’t have the right to decide what a woman can or can’t do with her body.
Those who adamantly oppose abortion are regarded as pro-life and those who are supporters of abortion are considered pro-choice by contemporary standards. Even among those who advocate abortion, there are discrepancies in their views such as up until what point in the pregnancy is abortion morally permissible. In my opinion, abortion is morally permissible at any stage in a woman’s pregnancy. This is ethically acceptable because a woman should have the right to control what goes on within her body. Along with this, fetuses are still far from personhood (having the qualities of a human being); therefore, we cannot liken abortion to any variety of murderous activity.
...If a pregnancy is unwanted, and the woman has to continue and have the child anyways, it could cause serious physical and mental problems to her personal well-being, but getting an abortion does not get rid of any physical or mental problems destined to come, and if she did not want to get pregnant that bad, then she should have been chaste.
One of the reasons that the pro-choice and pro-life groups justify their positions are based upon the fact that before the supreme court decision legalized abortions, women would undertake their own measures to abort the baby which included such things as the use of coat hanger, knitting needles, radiator flush or going to unsafe back-allies. These crude measures caused many Americans to feel the legalization of abortions was justified. Pro-Choice and Pro-Life Groups, debated whether or not abortion should be a legal or illegal. For example, pro-life,believe that the quality or condition of being an individual person begins at conception, and therefore abortion is an unethical killing of a blameless human being. However, Pro-choice known as the supporters of abortions believe that a person has the right to control their body, therefore it's a person's choice to do as they please.
Abortion has been one of the most talked about topics in society just about anywhere from television, magazines, whether or not it should be the right or wrong thing to do. Abortion is a very sensitive issue to discuss, because of its nature. Many people have said that abortion is a very bad thing to do and it should not even be choice whether or not to abort a living fetus. People think that abortion is committing murder as it is killing the human fetus. However, others feel that a woman should have a voice and have the right to choose to keep the child or not and that it is not murder until the baby is born. Majority of individuals who believe that abortion is bad say that the fetus is human who is partly being formed and to have an abortion is considered to be murder. For the people who think an abortion is ok, say that it’s not considered murder unless the child is born. I believe that abortion should be seen in which the stage the fetus is in. if the fetus is in an early stage of pregnancy it is not considered murder, but if the fetus has already began to develop into a larger fetus then it is indeed considered to be murder. There are times when abortion can be accepted, if the mother is having complications due to pregnancy. For example if the mother is enduring complications in her pregnancy that can harm her, because of the child in that case it is ok to perform an abortion to help save the mother’s life. It is also very important to understand this type of situation. The mother has the right to have an abortion and it is her decision because a mother knows best about her health conditions.
Abortion Taking out the trash, or taking a human life? That is what most the argument is with abortion, some believe that abortion is okay because the fetus is not yet a person, and that the fetus will be nothing but trouble. On the other side people believe that even all the way down to the zygote (when sperm meets the egg and earliest stage of pregnancy) there is a human growing in you. A growing boy or girl, with their own little fingers, and toes, their own cute as can be toothless smile, and their functioning organs. To them one day that zygote will turn into someone great, a person just like you and I that needs love just as you and I, a person that deserves to not get taken from our world before it even has a chance to take its first breath.
