For years on end, countries have been fighting with big museums from other countries for ancient artifacts that belong to the original countries. The argument of whether or not the museums should be able to keep them still remains. It is the right of the country to have their own artifacts. It is imperative for countries to be able showcase their historical artifacts, therefor museums should return them to their rightful owners. People go to see artifacts in museums for experience. What could be a better experience than going to the place they are from? Yes, the trip could cost a little more, but you cannot replicate the historical value an object holds in its origin country. The price is nothing compared to the true understanding of the history we gain from going out and visiting the place they should be. In the article “Bring Them Home,” the author talks of how countries “are seeking the return of objects important to their culture and history.” Examples of countries such as these would be: China, Iran, India, and Turkey. Why would these countries want their artifacts back if they have not seemed to miss them? Well, most of the time this happens because another country is in control of them and do not care for the objects themself. They do not care because they are not from that country and do not realize what value they hold to the people of that country. That is why countries should hold their own historical artifacts. It is their history, their culture, and it matters to the people to have the treasures from their land that could quite possibly be from when the land was first
The controversy began almost one hundred years ago. Between 1801 and 1812, Thomas Bruce, 7th Earl of Elgin and British Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire, removed several sculptures from the Parthenon in Athens and shipped them to England, where he sold them to the British Museum in 1816. 167 years later, Melina Mercouri, Greek Minister of Culture, requested that the “Elgin” Marbles be returned. This request sparked one of the greatest debates the art world has ever known. For the past two decades, people have argued over who has the rights to these Marbles. The Greek position is certainly understandable from a cultural and emotional point of view. However, from the standpoint of legality and logic, it is hard to make a solid case against the Marbles’ continued presence in Britain.

They possess a sensitivity and reverence for the Memorabilia, and knowledge in general, that allowed them to maintain and protect the sacred documents. However, it is their sense of responsibility towards the products of this knowledge, and their understanding of the dangers such knowledge could present, that makes them the ideal protectors and regulators of knowledge. While they welcome anyone who wishes to study the Memorabilia with open arms, for they love knowledge too, they also hope to imbue knowledge-seekers with foresight and an ethical obligation to the products of that knowledge, in hopes that scientists with a conscience might avoid another Flame Deluge.

There are several arguments that I would make to support my thesis which are strong and well-supported. One argument is that just because people are doing bad things in the world does not mean immigrants should not be welcomed into the United States. Immigration is the key to diversity in the United States. The United States (U.S.) opened its borders and shores many years ago, allowing foreign nationals into the country. Foreign nationals refer to the U.S. as “the land of opportunity”; this belief drives foreign nationals to migrate to the country. Foreign nationals must register with the U.S. government and obtain the proper documentation to become legal U.S. citizens. Illegal immigrants and/or undocumented workers are foreign nationals that do not register with the U.S. government upon entering the U.S., or they overstay the allotted time of their temporary nonimmigrant visas. Illegal immigrant and/or undocumented workers receive the same benefits as U.S. citizens such as health, public housing, and educational often while avoiding paying state and federal taxes. The U.S. government must do a better job of monitoring the status foreign nationals.
Everyday, the United States has issues with the society, government, political issues, and environmental issues. One important topic that stands out for everyone is illegal immigration. So why does the U.S have problems with illegal immigration? Thoughts and opinions are all generated around the fact that the benefits the United States offer for the surrounding countries attract legal and illegal immigrants. Health benefits, medical emergency care, and schooling are a few subjects these immigrants target in the U.S.
Immigration is something that has been going on for decades. People immigrating to the United States are coming with the intentions of working for a better future. Recently the major countries that were part of WWII are starting to try and push for museums to send back the stolen art to their rightful owners. With the millions of pieces that were stolen during WWII the number of pieces that have not been returned to its heirs is well over 100,000 pieces of art and most of them are currently missing.("Nazi Plunder," n.d.) To help return stolen art, museums search through all of their art to check if any of it was stolen during WWII. Currently though the progress has stopped for returning stolen artwork back to its rightful heirs, because the museums are refusing to give back some of the more major pieces of art. In “Whose Culture Is It, Anyway? ”, Kwame Anthony Appiah begins by pointing out that some of the museums of the world, particularly in the West, have large collections of artefacts and objects which were robbed from developing and poor countries. He then raises a question: who owns these cultural patrimony and properties? Our first answer may be that since they make up the cultural heritage of a people, they belong to the people and culture from whom they were taken. Appiah has doubt about this and argues that if some cultural artefacts are potentially valuable to all human beings, they should belong to all of humanity. He thinks that when they make contribution to world culture, they should be protected by being made available to those who would benefit from experiencing them and put into trusteeship of humanity.

The world as a whole is facing a challenge on how to handle the cases of immigration. The latest development in immigration cases is what is currently happening in the Mediterranean Sea where Africans are migrating into Europe illegally. This paper will, however, not look into the case in Europe but rather what is happening in America at the moment. The paper will analyze immigration in America, why people immigrate to America and how the challenge can be mitigated without causing a lot of harm to the society.
