The Archibald prize is an annual portrait competition open to all Australian artists who are interested in the field of art, literature, science, or politics. The Archibald prize was first awarded in 1921. This open competition is judged by the trustees of the art gallery of NSW (Art gallery of NSW, 2017). Two interesting artists have entered this annual portrait competition, Anh Do and Andrew Lloyd Green Smith were the two people that entered this competition. These two artists really express the essential features of this competition by recognising the art of significant Australians. She lived in India, Paris, London, and New York, only recently returning to Australia at the age of 99 (Archibald prize, 2017). Green smith chose Eileen Kramer as his sitter because of the way she displays a sense of inner stillness and she is very ease with the world.in addition, Green smith emphasises the age of a 102 year old women that has the inner strength, intangible beauty and tenacity that we can only aspire to. Anh do said “there’s a hologram of a unicorn and its mother there to represent the year Jack spent looking for his mother” he also said “there’s dead insects here because jack spent many years homeless,” (Archibald prize, 2017). Anh Do also uses a good variety of colours for example; he uses the monochrome colours black, white, and brown. He uses these colours to contribute the background Jack came from. Furthermore in Anh Do’s portrait of Jack’s face he makes the old Aboriginal man look sad, this is because he wants to show the viewer how taught jack’s life was and how much he went
