Aphorisms
"Aphorism - a brief statement of truth." This is the dictionary definition of an aphorism. I see an aphorism as a quote that you can relate to personally. An aphorism is a fact about life. But is an aphorism always a fact, or is it sometimes an opinion too? Sometimes you might not even agree with what an aphorism says. It depends on who you are and what type of personality you have.
The first aphorism which I would like to discuss is, "'Stay' is a very common word in a friend's vocabulary," by Bronson Allcott. This aphorism is one that I definitely agree with. You don't want friends who aren't going to be there for you at times when you need them the most. You want friends who stay with you and won't leave you alone, no matter what the circumstances are. Even if you and your friend get into a fight, you never want your friend to leave you forever, even if what they did to you was really wrong. They'll always be your friend no matter what and you and that person need to realize that and stick together.
Take two kids, for example, who have been best friends since the first grade. Later in high school, one of the two friends is heading downhill with their life. This is a time when the friend needs the other friend the most. If the other friend isn't there for them, then it can be really hard. We depend on our friends to help us out.
A second aphorism is, "It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle if it's been through a blender first," by Les Barker. This aphorism is very true also. Once you've been through some really tough times, the impossible is now possible. You should
be able to accomplish anything now.
For a third aphorism, I chose, "If you come to a fork in the road, take it," by Yogi Berra. This is a really good aphorism. He's saying that if you come to a situation in life where you have different opportunities, make sure you take advantage of them, because who knows, it might be a once in a life time opportunity. Later on in life, you may be sorry for the choices you've made.
"You can observe a lot by watching," another quote by Yogi Berra, is my fourth aphorism.
“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts”
“Learn to live a little!” Most people have heard this expression, but learning to live isn’t to just stop taking life seriously, it’s about learning how to die. This aphorism of learning how to die is how you learn to live is used again, and again throughout the book, “Tuesdays with Morrie”. First, Morrie shows how he learned how to live after dealing with ALS, which will slowly kill him. Second, people who are afraid and scared of death are the ones who will have unsatisfied and envious lives. Finally, The fact of how learning to die also has people become less ambitious about their job and becoming really wealthy, but instead focusing more on personal connections and relationships. In “Tuesdays with Morrie”, Mitch Albom
Third aphorism, is “There is no such thing as too late in life. He knew that is never too late to
Loyalty is a hard quality to find in a friend, so once loyalty is found that friend is usually in it for life. Faraway friends are the ones we find ourselves turning to in our darkest hour of need and the ones that we would step into battle with. Marion Winik perfectly explains the importance
Ralph Waldo Emerson is also known for his powerful quotations, most of them motivational and philosophical. I was impressed by his simple but powerful thoughts about life: “It is not the length of life, but the depth.”...
There is something to be said about quotes. The way the knowledge of achievers is brought down to just a few lines. It gives us a sense of both reflection and wisdom. They are relatable and can guide us to a conclusion of where we are and who we aspire to be. In our quote assignment we are told to choose three quotes from a selection that was posted on the board every week. All of them can be related to my life in some way, shape, or form. However, these are the three that I believe relate to me the best.
With friends, our lives will be better, our days will be full of joy, and our unhappiness will fade away. Friends will take care when we are in need as we will support them in everything with the best we have. Life with friends will always give us wonderful memories that we will never forget for the rest of our days. Works Cited Viorst, Judith. A. ...g that I did my best might result in amazing results. I will always remember what my third grade teacher told me. Without this quote, I might not be the amazing student I am today. “If you choose to climb the mountain, don't stop until you reach the top, because that's where the best view is.”
An example of one from the book states, “Once you learn how to die, you learn how to live. ”(pg 82)I think this aphorism is very strong because its saying when you have death staring at you, you then realize all the wrong you have done in this world and that you should try and fix them before it’s too late. This quote from the book shows you that you should turn your life around before it’s too late and you have no time left.
Older adults reinforce this aphorism all the time when they say things such as “I'm too old for this” which further shows that one cannot know what is in store for them. When accounting for this it is easy to see how it is a big, risky bet that many take can result in a bad ending. Some of the things one might want to do right now they might not be able to do later in life as a result of health problems, kids, and other unforeseen
know how to handle it we can always pray to God for help, instead of
... that if you make the right decision, God will help you, he will guide and save you. This maybe the details that are left out of Proverbs, there may not be a need for detail at all. It doesn’t matter what the situation is, don’t be lazy, the out come then will be the help of the Lord. This advice is God/dess’ guidance, it is then up to you which path you will take, what decisions will be made, and which life you choose to live. The Lord can only bring us this far; He/She is unable to help, if we are do not make the right decisions and live righteously.
One of the most important details in a friendship is to never leave or forsake the other. A friend is also loyal, for example in the movie Lord of the Rings, Froto and Sam Wise had a wonderful fellowship. They lived in peace and in one accord. Also in the movie, gandalf sent froto on a mission. Froto was scared and he didn’t want to go on the journey by himself.
Friendships are based on a completely different set of structural relationships to those with parents. They are more symmetrical and involve sharing and exchange. Friendships are important to young children but there is a change at the beginning of adolescence -- a move to intimacy that includes the development of a more exclusive focus, a willingness to talk about oneself and to share problems and advice. Friends tell one another just about everything that is going on in each other's lives... Friends literally reason together in order to organise experience and to define themselves as persons.
Growing up in school you have your friends in 1st, then in Jr. High, and then when you get to high school you might not even know or see your friends from 1st grade anymore. For the few people who’s had a friend from 1st grade till college I think that someone they need to hold on to because if they stuck with you through all them year I know they’re there for the right reason and there not just there for a season. As Elizabeth Dunphy says, “It’s the little things that matter, that add up in the end, with the priceless thrilling magic found only in a friend.”
