Antigone was right because she was loyal to her family and she stood up for what she believed in even when the government said it was wrong. She risked her life for her family, because her loyalty to her family was much greater and stronger than her loyalty to the government. Antigone said to Creon when he said that Antigone's brother was a traitor, ”his own brother traitor or not equal in blood.”(p.127) This means that fought as a brave soldier whether he was a traitor or not. He is part of Antigone's family. She is very loyal to her family. She loves her family so much that she would break the law to make sure her brother’s soul is at rest. The law in ancient Greek is that if someone's body is not properly buried, they will not enter the after life, and they will walk the river forever.The only reason Creon does not want Antigone to bury her brother is because he was a traitor, and fought against his own land. Ismene told her, “They mean a great deal to me but i have no strength to break laws that were made for the public good.”(p.66-67) She meant that even though her brother means a lot to her she wanted to obey the laws because she believed that laws were there for a reason. Antigone says back to Ismene, “That must be your excuse, I suppose.But as for me/I will bury the brother I love.”(p.68-69) She meant that she was going to bury him out of love, because he was her family. Ismene feared the government so she'd rather let her brother walk the river instead of go to the after life than be loyal to her family.
