Summary:
The film The Internship is the story of Billy McMahon (played by Vince Vaughn) and Nick Campbell (played by Owen Wilson) who lose their jobs as salesman when the company they work for closes down. They then manage to get internships at Google in an attempt to reinvent themselves and to eventually get jobs at Google. The only problem is that Billy and Nick are going to Google which is a technology giant but they themselves do not have any tech skills which makes them unsuitable for the internship. One of the people working at Google who are helping to select candidates for the internship then convinces the company to give these two men a chance. Not only is this a key part of the film but also very important skills to have in the business environment as it is always changing which is why employees as well as employers have to be able to think on their feet in order to overcome unplanned obstacles that they may be faced with. Contingency plans using creativity and problem solving is essential for the business environment. An example of these skills in the movie would be when Billy and Nick lose their jobs and Billy then thinks creatively in order to get the two of them jobs at Google which solves their problem of being unemployed. Another example creative thinking and problem solving is after Nick and Billy’s group return from the club, which was on the same day as the group’s due date for the app challenge, is when Lyle wants to send a message to the girl from the club when he is drunk and this is where the group comes up with their app idea of having to answer questions when you are drunk in order to be able to send a message. This is also an idea of the SCAMPER method as substituted ideas for the app challenge since the previous night, they combined their knowledge of creating an app idea with the necessary resources, they adapted the idea to suit the needs of the app users, they modified it in order to improve it, they eliminated ideas that would not work for the app since …show more content…

In the movie The Internship conflict arises in Billy and Nick’s group because of the different personalities in the group as well as some group members not performing. The different personalities within the group involves Stuart, Neha and Yo-Yo excluding Billy and Nick from the start because Billy and Nick are not as educated with technology like the rest of the team and this is seen in the beginning when the group is alone and the three geniuses tell Billy and Nick straight that they will not be participating in the group because their skills are inadequate. This is also an example of group members not performing as Billy and Nick’s lack of technological skills means that they cannot pull their weight in the team therefore meaning that they cannot perform in the group in order to achieve the team’s goals. Another example of conflict in this film is between Billy and Graham and this is an example of different personalities again as well as Graham being a very competitive person who does not always stick to the rules and does not play fair in order to achieve his or the team’s goals. This is seen when the two teams are playing against each other in a sport and Graham does not play fair in order to win because he hurts one of his own team members on purpose in order to win and he also insults his team the whole time which causes conflict within his group.
