“Great works are performed not by strength but by perseverance”-Samuel Johnson. Perseverance is a trait in which must be earned through experience and trials. Dictionary.com states that “steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, a state, etc.especially in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement” (Perseverance). This definition is somewhat unclear to the average person. To me, perseverance is the drive and or willpower to do something or to get a goal done, no matter the obstacle. It’s when you need to study for that upcoming math exam, or when you lost that one baseball game that was for the championship title. You decide to train, to get stronger, to be better than you were last season. That, is what perseverance means …show more content…

Even being born into poverty, that wouldn’t stop him from pursuing his studies of law and the, at the time, broken economy. He kept striving, getting stronger, getting smarter, he became more aware of his surroundings and his environment. He was born in Charlestown, a city in which wasn’t struggling, but wasn’t quite thriving. The more Alexander grew up, the smarter he got, by the age of just 14, he knew what he would do with his life. ("Alexander Hamilton." American Eras). His plan was to go to king's college and become the secretary of treasury to fix America’s debt issues. ("Alexander Hamilton." Britannica School). So people decided to fund his trip to college so he could pursue, and never give up. While he was in king's college, he had a relatively easy time getting through, no real issue, but when he finished, and was set free, he would start a whole new revolution he wouldn't give up on. He was appointed secretary of treasury in 1789, and George washington's right hand man. His idea to fix America's economy wasn’t appreciated by other politicians, like aaron burr. But would their opinions really stop alexander hamilton from achieving his goal? Of course not, because Hamilton would strive, to continue, and to persevere, till he got what he wanted. He has the drive, the subtle, yet noticeable dedication. Jake might seem to not care or to not want to try. But really, i know he cares about his grades, and how he pursues them. He strives. Though he may struggle, he may face trials and tribulations, he may feel the pain of struggle, but no matter what he’ll always try his best. Even outside of school, he pursues his sports his family, and his friendships. In sports, he try’s to play better than anybody else, if he falls down, then he'll just get back up and try again until success. When he tries his best to impress his family members, he tries his hardest, not just for him, but for them as well. With friendships, the hardest thing to keep in high school, he manages to keep them strong and ever.
