Advantages Given At Birth: The Controversy Everybody starts off at a different place in this world. Some people are born into rich families while others are born into poor families, and it ends up making the world seem like such an unfair world. Some people may have been given advantages at birth, but it is always your destiny to choose the path in life you want to take. Some people like Daisy and Tom’s daughter, Pammy, have been raised in an upper lifestyle filled with luxury and everything they can dream of. Pammy would be considered to have advantages from birth, which isn’t totally wrong. She lives in a lavish home and as everything handed to her without question, which is much more than some people could even dream of. George makes his money working as a mechanic and as always had a tough time making it by. Being a mechanic keeps him pretty well off, but he didn’t always have money. Gatsby was also not born into riches, he made a wealthy man of himself. His parents were just poor farmers who didn’t have much. Gatsby wasn’t happy with the way his life was so when he was 16 he left home and ended up becoming a man with a lot of money. He knew that he didn’t have to live his life like his parents did, he could make something more of himself. There have been many poor people who grew up to very successful, and there have been many promising students who have thrown their life away. All it takes to be successful is ambition and intelligence. Take my mother for example; she did not live a great childhood and didn’t have very much money but she worked for what she wanted and now she has 2 college degrees and a job she loves.
