Legalized abortion is an extremely controversial and often volatile issue talked about around the world. Abortion was legalized in the United Sates in 1973 after Roe won the lawsuit against Dallas County District Attorney, for not permitting her to terminate the pregnancy that had occurred as a result of a rape, which later was revealed as a false statement (“Roe v. Wade” P.2) From then 38010338 children have been aborted until 1998. In addition, specialists have estimated an increase of more than 9 million abortions until 2005, making a massive total of more than 40 million, which is 24 times greater than American war causalities since American Revolution to the Gulf war of nineteen ninety (“Over Forty Million” P:1.)
Abortion has become a very sensitive topic, which acts as a “double-edged sword”(Morgentaler P:1.) Some argue that abortion is a women’s right, and some says it is not. When part of the society supports abortion, the other half opposes it. Society has categorized the people who are favoring the legal right of women to choose whether to continue a pregnancy, as pro-choicer and people who are supporting the full legal protection of the unborn child, as pro-lifer. These two groups try to justify their point of views by presenting many facts and evidence. Pro-choicer claim that after legalizing abortion, fatalities caused by illegal abortions had decreased extremely (Head P: 1&2.) Even though, pro-choicer state that the best solution for unwanted pregnancies is legalized abortion, considering many facts and evidence abortion seems as an unacceptable solution and creates more problems than it solves.

... it is not convincing enough to excuse the women’s choice of terminating unwanted children because there are many prevention methods and there is a much easier and better solution called adoption. Every mother who has given unacceptable reasons has forgotten that there is a simple solution for their unwanted pregnancy instead of abortion. They have forgotten about many other families, couples and individuals who do not have the great opportunity of having a baby and are willing to adopt a baby. If mothers continue their pregnancies, there are many other agencies and organization that will help them to find good parents for their newborn babies. Adoption is a much better, successful and happier solution than abortion. Abortion is not the right choice for unplanned pregnancies because not only it is taking one life away, but also it will put another life in danger.

Pro-choice is favoring or supporting the legal right of women and girls to choose whether or not to continue a pregnancy to term. Pro-life is supporting the right to life of the unborn or against abortion. The debate of “pro-life” and “pro-choice” has clearly become more complex within the last 30 to 40 years. When examining the issues on abortion, one has to look at its history and main issues that surround the subject matters of abortion, whether religion is a factor and if the government should have a say in a woman’s choice.
Anger and heated debate have long fueled the controversy over abortion. Whether pro-life or pro-choice, both sides of the argument are convinced of the righteousness of their beliefs. There is, however, some confusion surrounding the term “pro-choice” – it does not directly pertain to the spread and use of abortion, but rather, “pro-choicers” advocate the continued legalization of abortion in order to make the choice available and to ensure that women’s fundamental rights are not subjugated. The stance that abortion should be available has its roots in economic concerns, psychological evidence, moral dilemmas, and the Constitution.
Pro-choice versus pro-life argues over the issue of what should be the right stance when dealing with the life of an unborn child. From the perspective of a person who is pro-choice, they believe that “individuals have unlimited autonomy with respect to their own reproductive systems, just as long as they don’t violate the independence of others.” Pro-choice also argues that the government should not have the right to decide whether a woman should exterminate her pregnancy or not. From their viewpoint, they believe that what should be legal in the eyes of the government is contraception use, celibacy, abstinence, and abortion for the first two trimesters of pregnancy. On the stance of pro-life, they argue that the government has a right to protect this regardless of any situation.

There is no excuse to killing an innocent child and abortion is giving people an excuse. Before a child even has the chance to be born and live, their life is taken away because of the mothers decision. There are so many alternatives to abortion. When a woman doesn’t want to keep her baby or does’t have the ability to take care of it, abortion shouldn 't be the first option taken. There are many options out there to be taken like “Abortion alternative clinics [that] offer services such as adoption referrals, free pregnancy testing, crisis pregnancy counseling, post-abortion counseling, and homes for pregnant women” (Chittom & Newton, 2015). With that many options to choose from, why would a woman choose to take the abortion route? When the abortion is in consideration, many women admitted they were not fully educated on the topic. Chittom and Newton (2015) wrote: “these heart wrenching stories describe the violent reactions these women have had to seeing images similar to what they had done in the process of killing their own babies”. After the abortion process was over, many women were shocked and mortified at how the abortion was preformed. For many, only guilt and sorrow remain since the damage was already done. Abortion is an issue which separates the American public, especially when it involves the death of children and women. When an abortion occurs, the medical doctor removes the fetus from the pregnant woman. This particular act has separated the public. Many believe that abortion is not morally and ethically correct. On the other hand, some people believe that carrying and delivering the unborn child will hinder the safety of the mother, then an abortion is needed. Each view has its own merit in the debate. The two main positions that people take are either of pro-choice or pro-life; both sides, although polar opposites, tend to refer to both the issue of morality and logical rationale. The pro-life side of the debate believes that abortion is an utterly immoral practice that should be abolished.
