Abortion is a very controversial issue that has been discussed and argued for many years. Historically, Republicans are pro-life and Democrats are pro-choice. In the third presidential debate, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton were asked if they would want the justices that they appoint to overturn Roe v. Wade, a 1973 court case that made abortion legal. Donald Trump stated that he would appoint two to three pro-life justices, which will in turn, overturn Roe v. Wade and the issue will go back to the states, and give them the power to decide. Hillary Clinton stated that she is pro-choice and stands behind Roe v. Wade 100%. I personally think that abortion is a personal decision that can only be made by the woman carrying the baby. Just because abortion is legal, does not mean that every woman has to exercise that right, it just means that if needed, she can make that decision for herself and that baby. So if someone is against abortion, they should not do it, but it does not mean that others should be prevented from doing it. If abortion was illegal, many black market clinics would arise, and preform unsafe abortions, also women might try to do abortions on their own. This could lead to many deaths and put the lives of many women at risk. Safe, medical abortion should be an option for everyone. Abortion is not a good or a bad thing, because it is a personal choice. If you want to get one for financial reasons, you can. If you need to get one for medical reasons you also can, but if you do not believe in abortions then you don’t have to get one. Just like gay marriage, what someone else does should not affect you. Abortion should stay legal, so women have full control of their bodies and what is going on with them and never feel trapped or as if there is no safe way out. The pro choice debate wants to make it apparent to people they are not fighting for abortions; they are fighting for the right to be able to have abortions. As only women can get pregnant, and therefore only women have abortions, a male legislator has no right to vote on an abortion related law. Every woman has the right to make her own choice and it should continue in that manner. If you're opposed to abortion, don't have one, but don't try to impose your morality on others. Abortion is a personal choice between a woman and her doctor. Instead of making abortion more complicated and treacherous for women, lawmakers should promote policies that reduce the need for abortion.
There will always be a debate over whether or not abortion should be a legal option. It continues to divide Americans very long after the US Supreme Court’s decision on Roe v. Wade. People, identifying themselves as pro-choice, say that choosing abortion is a right that should not be limited by the government or religious authority, and it outweighs any right claimed for a fetus or an embryo. In 1973, in what has become a landmark ruling for women’s rights, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of a woman’s right to an abortion. Ever since, individual states have adopted, altered, and/or mutilated the edict to fit their agendas – Texas included. However, the decision made by the justices in Roe v. Wade didn’t set clear cut, inarguable demarcation lines, which has allowed the fiery debate to consume the nation. Rather than establishing a legal ruling of what life is, or is not, the Supreme Court has remained silent on the issue.
Abortion is a highly controversial topic of debate; this debate evokes strong emotions on both sides. Abortion is a pretty cut and dry topic; you are either Pro-Life or Pro-Choice. Pro-life advocates are people who believe abortion is ethically and morally wrong, and that it is the government’s job to protect all people including the lives of unborn children. Pro-choice supporters say that it is not the government’s responsibility to protect the unborn children, and women should have the right to determine whether or not they continue with their pregnancies; by choosing to have an abortion. Women’s rights concerning abortion were brought to the forefront during the court case of Roe vs. Wade in 1973. This court case gave women the right to abortion under the due process clause in the 14th amendment of the United States Constitution. Pro-Choice supporters are fighting to keep this in place, while Pro-Life supporters are desperately trying to overturn this ruling. The debate of abortion still holds strong today, between Pro-Life and Pro-Choice, almost 40 years since the Supreme Court ruling. Abortion is classified in two points of views: Pro-Choice supporters and Pro-Life advocates. Roe vs. Wade should be overturned to make the act of receiving an abortion illegal to protect the lives of the unborn children.
Why should any woman be denied the choice to do what she wants with her own body? Women should have the control to decide what is best for their own body without the interference of the government’s laws. Making abortion legal can save and protect the lives of the pregnant woman and unborn fetus. The abortion procedure can help a woman’s life by saving her from financial stress, difficult responsibilities, risky health concerns, emotional disturbances and it also corresponds with the law . No doubt, abortion is a highly controversial subject able to evoke highly charged emotions on both sides of the issue. Yet, it is my firm belief that abortion is a woman's right that needs to be preserved. Women who opt to have an abortion will do it for different reasons based on their individual circumstances. A child should bring joy and happiness for a family, welcomed into a world of love and warmth. Unwanted pregnancies only create an environment of neglect for the baby by parents that were not prepared for such a big step in life in the first place. It is a woman's right to decide what to do with her body and life. Taking away Roe v. Wade and abortion rights is taking away a woman's right to self-governance, her right to choose what to do to her body.
How would you feel if someone took away your ability to live? How would you feel if you were never given the chance to come into the world and contribute to the human race? These are some of the questions an individual needs to ask when considering having abortion. Abortion, in my opinion, is immoral and unjust simply because it is murder. A brutal murder of a being who has not even seen the world and a huge injustice to a helpless fetus who might have been the next Einstein, President, or the person who would find a cure to cancer. Morality says that every person has the right not to be unjustly killed. Hence, this right also apply to any unborn child. The thought of an individual killing his/her own unborn child is always lurking in the back of my mind because it’s hard to assert the harm being caused by the unborn child to the mother or to the society in general. If we say abortion is morally right, then we are against procreation and procreation is one of the major contributions of a human being to his or her society and the world at large. The act of procreation is one of the most beautiful things in the world. To make a human being, being able to watch that kid grow into an adult and actually be responsible to the society, should be a very fulfilling experience for any mother. I hereby oppose the principle of paternalism because I don’t believe it is moral to take away or destroy the life of an unborn child to save the life of the mother because there is no harm caused by the unborn child but I support the harm principle because abortion in general, causes harm to the unborn child, his future, the mother and the society. Therefore, I subscribe to Don Marquis view on Abortion in his article “Why abortion is immoral”.

Abortion was legally being done since 1880 in the United States. During that time, many states have started to ban abortion. Even though abortion was illegal in many places, it was still being practiced. Many by licensed physicians. They “risked losing their license to perform the abortions”. Even though abortion was illegal in most states, women all over the United States were getting abortion illegally. Abortion has been a controversial topic in the U.S ever since it became legal in 1973 after the Roe v. Wade case. Abortion is defined as the, “the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy.” Pro-life supporters believe that abortion is unethical and argue that it is the mother’s responsibility to own up to her actions. They also argue that there is always the option of adoption, and that abortion could be very dangerous. I am pro-life and believe that the government doesn’t have the right to decide what a woman can or can’t do with her body.
I believe that the government should not be able to control what a woman does with her body. By granting women the right to choose, this does not permit her to kill, but to decide what is best for all persons involved. There are many situations that show that abortion may be the best for the parents and the unborn child. Situations such as rape or incest prove that it is not the woman’s fault and not fair to the mother or the unborn child to pay for it. There are other situations such as if the mother carries a disease the can be passed on, or if the parents are unfit to raise a family at the time. Any case however, should be between the people involved and not the government.
Women should have the right to decide whether or not they would like to have an abortion. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines abortion as; “the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus.” The idea of a woman’s right to have an abortion being taken away is merely incomprehensible.
