Jacksonian democracy was created during the antebellum America. The Jackson democrats made an attempt to grant power to the lower classes while decreasing the influence of the rich and potent. The Jacksonian democrats viewed themselves as saviors of the common people and ruled by the means of a powerful executive branch who attempted to destroy aristocracy in America. In reality, they were typically very wealthy, they disregarded the capability of the federal government, and they desired equality only for the white man. The Jacksonian’s view of themselves was pompous because of their political views, their animosity towards minorities, and their economic policies.
Although viewed as defenders of all common men, Jacksonian democrats shunned minorities by only assisting white men. In fact, The Diary of Philip Hone (Doc E) describes the insurrections and disturbances that broke out throughout the nation by minorities. The minorities received no aid from the efforts that the Jacksonian democrats made to increase equality, and as a result many rebelled. Jackson’s brutality in his Indian removal practices such as the Trial of Tears, (Doc G), is another example minorities receiving no aid. Fearful of aggravating southern voters, Jacksonians also made no attempt to provide egalitarian efforts towards slaves. Women were also ignored in the Jacksonian’s view of equality. Jeffersonian and Jacksonian Democracy Jeffersonian and Jacksonian democracy are the same in just about every regard. Their views and goals as presidents are the same. Both are in favor of the common man and feel that it is the common people who should have the biggest influence on government, not the wealthy aristocrats. They also support states rights and feel that the federal government should not get involved with the state affairs. Both men's actions clearly show that the common man does not include minorities.
Based on the following doctrines, I believe the extent of characterization of the two parties was not completely accurate during the presidencies of Madison and Jefferson, because of key pieces of evidence that proves inconsistencies during the period between 1801 and 1817. In the following essay, I will provide information supporting my thesis, which describes the changing feelings by each party and the reasoning behind such changes.

The years between 1825-1850 were the years of the Jacksonian Democracy. During this time democratic ideals were expanded through equal rights movements and educational and religious reforms. The main goal of this era was to make society a better place for everyone. To better society there had to be change, change for more equality and freedom.

Andrew Jackson, the 7th president of the United States, was inaugurated in 1829 and was best known as the person who mainstreamed democracy in America. Because he came from a humble background, he was the “genuine common man.” (Foner, pg. 303) He claimed he recognized the needs of the people and spoke on behalf of the majority [farmers, laborers]. However, critics of Jackson and democracy called him “King Andrew I” because of his apparent abuse of presidential power [vetoing]. These critics believed he favored the majority so much that it violated the U.S. constitution, and they stated he was straying too far away from the plan originally set for the United States. Because of the extreme shift of power to the majority, the limiting of rights of the few [merchants, industrialists] and the abuse of power under Jackson’s democracy, the foundational documents set in the constitution was violated, and the work of the preceding presidents were all but lost.
Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson were two very influential figures in American political history. Even though they both were in two different eras, they shaped the American government and the way people think about it. They both have similarities, but they do have differences as well that includes political rights, religious rights and even economic rights.
Therefore, Andrew Jackson, in summary, was very democratic in the way which he transformed American politics, advanced social equality, and served to protect the people. Andrew Jackson shouldn’t have been recognized as a “dictator” or “king”, to the contrary, he should’ve been exalted and praised as the true “people’s king” spreading pure democracy throughout America.

The hearsay rule is a rule that applies in court when a statement is made out of court that is offered in court as evidence to prove the truth of the matter asserted (legal-dictionary.com n.d.). Unfortunately, when this evidence is brought to court it is up to the judge and jury to determine whether the evidence offered as proof is credible. Therefore, the person that is testifying has to prove to the judge and jury that they in fact saw what happen or that they actually know what happen. Furthermore, they have to swear and affirm that their statement is the truth. Therefore, there are three major evidentiary rules to help the judge or jury make their determination. The three rules are before a witness is allowed to testify, they must generally swear or affirm that their testimony will be truthful, they must be personally presented at the trial or proceeding in order for the judge or jury to be allowed to observe the testimony firsthand and finally they are subject to cross-examination at the option of any party who did not call the witness to testify.
