Out of many jobs being a Naval Physician is one of the most rewarding! This job allows extensively trained medics to help our soldiers and those less fortunate at home and abroad. I have chosen this topic because it is what interests me as a future career. A physician is defined as a person qualified to practice medicine which I realize is a very broad definition, but it’s history is very rich. The practice of being a physician can be traced back to ancient civilizations. The first recorded physician was Hippocrates of Ancient Greek who lived two thousand and five hundred years ago, but some of his methods still affect modern practices. Later, other great civilizations followed suit in developing medical theories from diagnosis to treatments. Sadly the Middle Ages saw little to none new theories or interest in physician practices, but a renewed interest during the renaissance created many needed discoveries for vaccines, treatment, and diagnosis techniques. Human knowledge is ever increasing in todays modern world bringing major breakthroughs in areas that have plagued humans. ("Physicians.") The education needed for this career changes as to what specialty one chooses, but for the Navy its more specific. The United States Navy requires its physicians to graduate from an eligible medical school accredited by the AMA or AOA, and completed one year of graduate level education. In the civilian world one must obtain an undergraduate degree in addition to a medical degree from an accredited college or university. However, these are only basic requirements, a student may further his education in the physicians field up to eleven-fifteen years, and many receive schooling every couple so often to stay up-to-date. In most... ... middle of paper ... ...ctors usually are able to keep this as a permanent income to support their family except on rare occasions, so the odds of losing your job are very slim. With an ever growing population, especially among the elderly, more and more doctors are needed to combat new diseases, injuries, etc keeping this job on high demand and a high job security. Plus with the Navy there is a need to help other nations when called upon, and a shift from hospitals to outpatient centers may mean physicians will soon be salaried as employees. ("Physicians.") In summary, a Naval Physician takes care of anyone in need of their help, and cooperates with national and international relief efforts. They also get a high pay, great health benefits, and a job that is here to stay. All in all this career has a deep rooted and rich history that continues to make new breakthroughs every day.
Most qualified surgeons started off as litter bearer and would carry men off the battlefield. If any of them showed interest in the medical field, they could become a Steward. A Steward's job was to take care of patients with minor wounds such as, scratches, and bumps. The other duties of a Steward were to pull teeth and take care of medicines for the surgeons. The Steward would also guard the medicinal stores, because often soldiers would try to break into the medicinal stores where the morphine, opium, and whisky were stored. If a Steward completed these duties, then he might be allowed to assist a surgeon in an operation, which could lead to becoming an assistant surgeon. He could then later on become an experienced and qualified surgeon.
In the book by DeLaet (2013), it mentions the educational requirements for being a pediatrician. DeLaet (2013) mentions that pediatricians need a bachelor’s degree to enter medical school. DeLaet (2013) also mentions that you will need to complete four years of medical school to start your residency. DeLaet (2013) goes on to mention that you will need to complete three to eight years in a residency or internship. Another requirement mentioned by Delaet is that all pediatricians must be licensed, or given authority to work, by the
It has been said by many experts that there has been a surplus of physicians in the past, but that there will soon be a shortage of physicians. This shortage will have been instigated by many factors, and is predicted to have various effects on society, both immediate and long term. There have been proposed solutions to this shortage, but there is a fine balance to be found with these many solutions and factors. However, once this balance is found, the long-term mending of the physician shortage may begin.
First I would like to state that any career in a medical field takes a lot of dedication and many hours studying and it is not for everyone. I would also like to say once an individual has made a career out of it the job has long hours and can be very stressful, so I suggest readers to not consider a career in medicine unless you are genuinely interested in the work, and are not in it just for the money.
According to Ann-Mari Brubakk, to become a Pediatrician requires a hard and long education, because you need an official study of medicine in the bottom and then you can specialize further. First, as Ann-Mari Brubakk said you need to have science in High School, and it requires good grades. Then, as Raymond Karlsen said that in Norway, the medical school is 6 years, and then you become a general practitioner. Ann-Mari Brubakk said that in order to become a pediatrician you need five more years of service on a medical pediatric ward. Yolanda said that Pediatricians are often seen as friendly and playful from children’s view, and parents say we as pediatricians is able to connect with the young patients even as they serve as mentors for anxious and us worried parents. In the book “Careers for kids at heart & others who adore children”, a pediatrician named Stavie gave an advice to future pediatricians. He said in able to be a good pediatrician it is necessary for you to like children, work fast, tolerate night calls from scared parents, have empathy with sick children, and have a sixth sense that helps you determine what is wrong when children cannot really explain to you their ailment.
To become an official pediatrician, one must obtain an M.D. degree, take a licensing examination, complete a one to two year internship, and complete at least five years of residency, or seven years if they want board certification in a specialty (“Physicians”).
Emergency room physicians begin getting an M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited traditional or osteopathic medical school(How to Become an ER Doctor). After that, they complete a 36-month residency program in emergency medicine to become eligible for certification by the American Board of Emergency Medicine(How to Become an ER Doctor). The ABEM grants certification to candidates who pass its oral and written exams within five years of completing their residency training(How to Become an ER Doctor). This certification lasts 10 years, and physicians must complete continuing education requirements to renew it(How to Become an ER Doctor).
Pediatrician need lots of schooling, training, and practice before they get out there on their own. Just think about it would you want someone working on your kids with no practice or training? Classes that they need are biology, chemistry, physics, calculus, pre med, medicine, cardiology, surgery, orthopedics, and pediatric. The training needed is things such as three - years residency and any other training that will help them. Another thing they have to have to be a pediatrician is they have to have good personal qualities such as communication skills, critical thinking skills, problem solving skills, and lots of patience. They need practice on these skills almost as much as they do to get the career they are wanting.
This involved diagnosing and correcting issues as they occurred with the equipment provided requiring an ever expanding knowledge base and mastery in practicing that knowledge and training others to proficiency with equipment provided to them. During this time my desire to work in medicine didn’t dwindle and actually grew. At my first duty station a fellow 25U was a Registered Nurse before joining the Army to follow her husband with a career during his career. She helped me in looking at the various options in working in health care as well as different medical periodicals and journals worth reading, showing me the benefits to becoming a R.N. and career options that are possible by going R.N.; instead of going paramedic or the popular per-medicine degree that I was considering. At my second duty station was by far the most difficult assignment both in personal career development and spiritually taxing which was the most taxing for me. I served in the Oregon National Guard as a full time signal support to train up a unit for deployment to Afghanistan.
...areer Cruising). Medical science and health care will always be evolving and changing (D’Orazio). Pediatricians have a very important job. They save many lives every single day and make a difference in the world!
The motivation to pursue Medicine as a career is frequently presented as a few typical clichés. Some say “I’ve always known that Medicine was the career for me.” While others tout “I was often sick as a child” thus “the hospital was an integral part of my life” while others use the typical “Dr. _______ changed my life and I always wanted to be just like him/ her”. While some these things ring true of my own life experience, there were numerous, sometimes unrelated factors, that have influenced my decision and fueled my desire to pursue Medicine. However, I am particularly drawn to Internal Medicine because of its complex problem solving opportunities, emphasis on team centered care, and the never-ending learning opportunities it affords.
The process of becoming a Pediatrician is an extremely long one; they are required to receive a minimum of a bachelor’s degree before attending an additional four years at a medical school. Once an approximate 8 years of schooling have been completed, another one to eight years of training, also known as a residency, is required where they will practice medicine under the supervision of a senior qualified doctor. Residencies vary depending on the specialization of the doctor such as being a general physician or a Pediatric surgeon. Once the residency has been
.... There is also the problem of the long work hours. You could just have worked a long twelve hour shift then get called back in because of an emergency. For most jobs that won’t happen. Also anesthesiologist work up to ninety hours a week most jobs you only work about 45 hours a week. Then if you get a job at like a surgical place you wouldn’t have to have those really long hours, but most surgical places like that want experienced workers so you would more than likely have to start out in a hospital where you have to work those long hours. This is going to be a hard decision to make on whether I want to pursue this career. I don’t think I would still want to do this career after my research it takes a long time to get the training and you have to work long hours. I think I would rather try a career with less training and not such long hours.
ER physicians triage people and help a range of injuries. To become a physician you have to take many years of schooling. Physicians have to be friendly and have the skill of controlling other people’s emotion in a positive way. They spend mostly 90% of their time in the ER which can be really stressful, but they have to be able to stay calm and be very prepared for anything that comes into the emergency room. This is a career that I would want to pursue because it fits into my personality and my values. I am very excited to job shadow an emergency room physician.
The requirements of a doctor vary by speciality. The most common route is a four year undergraduate degree, four years of medical school, and a three to seven year residency training. Once residency training has been completed a person is eligible for a medical license. The median salary is $111,630 annually and the projected growth from 2012-2022 is 18%. The salary varies based on the experience and specialty of a doctors field. Citations - Woodley, Emma C. "What Do Doctors Do? | Career Bear." Career Bear. Career Bear, 15 June 2015. Web. 01 Oct.
