Community Service On the summer of 2017 I would like to be part of a missionary team of nurses and doctors from my church, who travels to various countries in South America helping those in need of medical attention. By going to this trip I want to be exposed to the needs these people have, and perhaps recruit other nurses to accompany me in future trips. • Certifications On December, 2016, I plan to obtain my CCRN certification. CCRN certification helps to enhance critical thinking, and maintain up to date knowledge base of acute and critical care nursing (American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, 2015). • Political involvement On November, 2016, and November, 2020 I plan to continue voting for the US presidential elections. This is important to me because it would mean that I am a step closes to be an expert nurse, based on the Benner’s stages of clinical competence. On July 2020, I plan to start working a new career as a Nurse Anesthetist, this is very important to me because it has always been my goal to practice anesthesia, as it allows me to work in a higher level of nursing, and ensuring the patient pain are manage during certain medical procedures. Strengths and Area where improvement is sought In the journey to become a professional my strengths have been continuous motivation and dedication to advance my education. I have the constant desire to continue improving my critical thinking skills, and plan to continue my education until I obtain a Master’s degree in Nursing Anesthesia. My family contributes to my strengths, as they are always motivating me mentally and financially thru the journey of education. Due to working for over 6 years in the hospital, my strength comes from extensively developed healthcare skills, knowledge, training and experience, with the ability to handle and intervene in emergent situations, with essential skillsets to perform under pressure. I want to be a neonatal nurse practitioner, the reason I want to become a neonatal nurse is because I have a real soft spot for baby. To be a neonatal nurse you have to give special attention to all type of babies. You have to focuses on taking care of ill or newborn infants. You don’t just have to work with infants you will have to work with the family members. I will be able to get close to family member and inform them how the infant is doing and is wrong with the baby.
My interest in nursing is fairly new; I had not explored the potential that a nursing career can offer. I became familiar with nursing professionally after becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant. The idea of taking care of someone and providing assistance to a complete stranger is something not many people do. Seeing people at their worst, during a difficult, challenging and frightening moment of their life is not a job many people would take. However, being there for a person at their time of need is what captivates me the most. Nursing, a career I want to pursue and one that is on my to-do list. Being a nurse entails a lot of things; you must be strong, passionate, hardworking, and caring. Becoming a nurse is my ultimate career goal. To become a CRNA, you must first receive a bachelor’s degree in nursing and attain the licensure of a registered nurse. My future career goal is to become an anesthesiologist. An anesthesiologist administers an anesthetic to patients before going into surgery.
