You Mean Anarchism Isn’t All About Chaos?
Social activist Lucy Parsons once said, “Anarchism has but one infallible, unchangeable motto, "Freedom." Freedom to discover any truth, freedom to develop, to live naturally and fully." Anarchism then, is being able to live and not be ruled by a government, but instead to live by one’s own means in order to increase the good for oneself and others who share the common belief. Human beings are capable of making the decisions. Instead of being ruled by one, anarchists live by agreement on decisions that will work for everyone.
Like anarchism, conservatism, liberalism, and libertarianism, have different views as to how one should be governed or ruled. Conservatism is the belief that traditional principles should be kept intact. Liberalism is the belief that one should be free to progress and that government should be used to protect this. Lastly, libertarianism is the belief that individual rights are protected by and acknowledged by the government. While these three stances are what others stand for, I believe that anarchism is the stance that most closely aligns to my beliefs such as the views on relationships and sexuality, technological advances, and nationalism. Therefore, anarchism is my belief of choice because of the acceptance and freedom that is given through it.
As times have progressed, we have seen a tremendous growth in the acceptance of many different relationships such as gay, lesbian, and transgendered. But to some, relationships out of the “ordinary” to them should not be allowed to happen. Anarchism may not be the only stance one is able to take, but it is a very influential view with ideas that could change the world that we live in today. Through many of its beliefs, anarchism has the potential to improve the lives of others in ways that one never though possible. If we were to change to anarchy, people can work together, be treated equally, and find ways to improve their lives. Although anarchism does not have a government that holds it together, it manages to keep groups of people together through their trust and compromises. It’s possible for people to live without others telling them how to live. It is not a way of chaos and destruction; rather, it is a way that you can live without being told you can’t do certain things. The idea of rational anarchism is the idea that every human being is responsible for their actions. The one person who is doing the actions. The only one who can take the blame. This is an idea of a character in The Moon is a Harsh Mistress. He believes that no matter how it boils down, the person who the actions is responsible for what they did.
Throughout the book “Anthem” the city has many rules and controls. Such as, not loving any person over another. Not saying the forbidden word “I”. Not stealing from another. With these rules and controls Ayn Rand created a collective society, but with the idea of a utopian society. The definition of Utopia is “ an imagined place or state of things in which everything is perfect.” The rules and controls listed above and the many more that are in the book “Anthem” describe a society trying to become collective but in a utopian way.
To reason out all of this jumbled mess; their utopia, their dreamland, is in essence flawed. The basis they reasoned from, while, in essence true, was poorly executed. The only end that a utopia can come to is disaster. Espicially in this, their Walden, where the individual is ignored and distroyed in favour of the greater good. Is this greater good, this ease of living worth the sacrafice of small bits of oneself? We, the Anarchiste stand by the fact that no, it is not, nor shall it ever be so. Pain and suffering are the basis of life, they are the measure by which we know we are truly alive, and more so, above the sheep in our pasture, the cattle in our dairy. Rebel, refuse, this drab non-life! Viva la Anarchiste!
Capitalist institutions are doomed to a cycle of crises and spatial fixes, which throws them into conflict with individual land-dwellers. The anarchist approach to property allows for the analysis of the spaces in a more equitable sense, avoiding the acceptance of institutional domination of defining legality. The anarchist ideology rejecting all authority, when deviated from, has resulted in violence which destabilizes the resistance. The advent of the internet has further opened doors for non-violent resistance and delegitimizes violent propaganda of the deed. The future for individualized anarchist resistance against institutions must be organized following the same principles as the future society desires and must protect the internet from becoming an institutionally controlled interface.
Growing up in a strict society with many rules, you realize how life should not be. For being your own individual is not a sin, but a benefit. Being your own individual is not only good for yourself, it is good for all of society. Being different benefits you and everyone around you in ways you may not even realize it. In the book Anthem, by Ayn Rand, society is nothing how it should be. The government not only controls what you do for a living, but it also controls how you speak, where you live, who you talk to, where to be and what to learn. The government does not turn Russia into a individualism country, but it turns it into a communist country. The people are to repeat “We are one in all and all in one. There are no men but only the great WE, One, Indivisible and forever” (19) every time they are tempted to think different. Equality 7-2521 was raised with the mentality of all men being alike. However, his own mentality has always been different from his brothers.
Throughout history there have been countless cases where groups of people have fought for their freedom. They have fought their battles in political debates, protests, and in the most extreme cases war. The oppressed continuously try to escape their oppressors, under the assumption that their oppressors live in complete sovereignty. People did not know then and still do not understand today that the environment they inhabit is the key factor that controls communal freedom. In Wallace Stevens “Disillusionment of Ten O’ Clock” and Walt Whitman’s “Song of Myself” both speakers affirm that society does not allow individual freedom to exist in this world.
It upholds freedom as its principal objective. Libertarians seek to maximize independence, freedom of choice and also emphasizing constitutional freedom. In order for humans to make their choices freely, morality has to be involved. In the sense that humans can be able to understand the choices they make, the effects the choices they make may have and whether it is good or evil. This is quite easy to understand and I believe that we all have free-will to do whatever we want at whatever time we want to because human behavior is the result of the decisions based on free-will rather than the results of deterministic influences.
Ayn Rand's classic story of one man's desire to become an individual in a nameless society presents a compelling refutation of collectivism in all forms. The hero, labeled "Equality 7-2521" by the State, chooses to challenge conventional authority as he learns the joys of experimentation and discovery, the ecstasy of human love, the challenge and fairness of liberty, and the happiness of self-interest. Equality 7-2521 writes three unique phrases in his journal: 1. "My happiness needs no higher aim to vindicate it. My happiness is not the means to an end. It is the end.", 2. "We know that we are evil, but there is no will in us and no power to resist it.", 3. "The word 'We' . . . must never be placed first within man's soul.". These phrases will be discussed individually in the remainder of this essay.

Raymond describes anarchism when he declares “Law is not the proper instrument of correcting the misdeeds of mankind” (Godwin 216). Godwin reasons that legal systems have proven to be incapable of equally applying laws to every citizen. He suggests that citizens overthrow the government to live in a state of natural humanity. After Raymond explains anarchism, the thieves claim that they will protect Williams “at the hazard of [their] lives” (Godwin 217). When Raymond removes the influence of government from the thieves’ perspectives, they adopt an altruistic, community-based mindset. Individual states have varying degrees of supreme power or authority in their own land, but no single state may create laws for the whole world.
