Genre is a pivotal factor in regards to any type of writing, whether it be about business, science, or even fashion (see Bawarshi; Berkenkotter & Huckin; Pare; Winsor). Almost all of the scholars who write about writing share a similar opinion that the genre a person writes in has control over their dictation and form. Genre can be defined through Charles Bazerman’s definition as “the familiar places we go to create intelligible communicative action with each other and the guideposts we use to explore the unfamiliar” (Bazerman 19). Although a business document may have a variety of points that must be included (see Berkenkotter & Huckin), it is clear that all genres differ within themselves (see Pare). Based on the ideals of a group and/or society, the form and content of any given document may change. An example of the changes in ideals in this genre would be a person writing a review of Fall/Winter 2016 Fashion Show of Michael Kors from London may include details regarding color, fit, texture, technique, and overall aesthetic. This may differ from a writer from the United States who may not go into as much detail and may focus on simpler, more basic factor, such as color and fit. In writing about fashion shows, a writer must include the show, location, and season, but much of what is left to discuss is based on what the ideology of the genre of that society requests (see Pare). By looking at the genre of articles, as well as blog posts, about fashion shows, it becomes apparent that this genre is up for interpretation and the style of the writer and the fashion designers dictate what is written and printed on the page.

The readers could expect the author not to write a review on this show, but if the author went, his/her conservative views would likely show through in his/her writing and the show may get high praise from the author. On the reverse of this, however, if the author maintained his/her love of fashion and acknowledgement of the art of the designs and constructions, he/she could give a wonderful review because of the respect and overall ideologies that writers, designers, and everyone in the industry has for the amount of work put in by each person in the process of concept to consumer. The writer is almost as important as the entire marketing team, working to get the consumer to buy the product, or at least see the product for their artistry.
