World War II: Causes and Effect on Europe World War II was significant for its unique causes and its major political impact on Europe. There were four main causes to why World War II started, some of which are the following: Treaty of Versailles, Hitler’s actions, failure of Appeasement, and the Failure of the League of Nations. World War II had a major impact on Europe Politically, which are the following: It caused Europe to have a weaker influence in the world, it caused Germany to split in half, the formation of the United Nations, and the division of Europe, between the Western nations and the communist Eastern bloc. The Axis Powers had three major countries involved which were Germany, Italy, and Japan. The formation of the Axis Powers started to form in 1936. The main member countries of Axis were rules by dictators which were: Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, and Emperor Hirohito. Hitler became Chancellor of Germany in 1933 and wanted to get rid of all weak people in Germany. Benito Mussolini was a supreme dictator of Italy. He founded the thought of fascist government which means there is one leader and there is one party that has total power. Benito Mussolini inspired Hitler to do what he did. Germany had surrendered to the Western Allies on May 7th, and on May 8th to the Soviet Union. Adolf Hitler Committed suicide about a week after the surrender in 1945. After Germany surrendered, Japan decided to hold their ground for a while and they prepared for a desperate defensive plan when the event of an American Invasion occurs on their home islands. Hiroshima and Nagasaki had atomic bombs dropped on them on August 6 and 9 separately. The trigger point of Japan’s defeat was when they couldn’t maintain their industrial production anywhere near the level needed, to support their armies with supplies. Their population was in danger of starvation, and they were constantly being bombed. The constant problems Japan went through from starvation, to recurring bombing, and inability to produce sufficient military supplies, are what caused Japan to finally
