Apple’s iPhone is recognizable across the entire globe. In today’s technological age, many people own, or have owned, an iPhone. An iPhone can be used for many tasks that will make one’s life easier. Some of the features of the iPhone include: emailing, texting, browsing the Internet, calling, and many more. Every year, people around the world line up at their nearest Apple store or phone provider to buy the next yearly installment of the device. The geographic information about the iPhone, such as where it is produced, where it is consumed, and what environmental impact it possesses, is extremely interesting. Before dwelling into the global phenomenon that is the iPhone, one must first look back at the history of the cell phone. In 1983, Motorola introduced the first truly mobile phone to the world, which was the DynaTAC 8000x (“The History and Evolution”). It is considered the world’s first mobile phone since it was the …show more content…
The iPhone is created with a display screen that is free of arsenic and mercury, which makes the phone easier to be recycled (Ende). The iPhone is also packaged to help promote efficient shipping (Ende). Consumers have also been concerned with carbon dioxide emissions from the company. Apple has shown an increase in carbon dioxide emissions since the iPhone 4s model to the iPhone 5 model. The iPhone 4s model had 55 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions that were raised to 75 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions for the iPhone 5 over the lifespans of the devices (Ende). The new charging port that Apple uses in the iPhone has also concerned environmentalists. Since the newer iPhone’s require a completely different cable, environmentalists are concerned that an extremely large amount of electronic waste will accumulate (Ende). As it turns out, most people still are not concerned about this problem since iPhone sales have actually grown throughout the
Cellphone has a huge impact in our society that allows us to do virtually anything ranging from texting, blogging, browsing through the internet, purchasing an item, etc. It makes it easy to get addicted to something that we use on a daily basis and that 's one touch away.
The average cell phone is used less than 18 months and 140 million of them end up in a landfill each year.(Statistics) The landfills are slowly filling up with our obsolete cell phones. The phone’s circuits are coated with lead, and the lithium ion batteries often explode in landfills creating craters of heavy metal toxic waste for future generations to have to deal with. Even though there is an effort to recycle this waste, the problem is going to get worse before it gets better as more and more of the world’s citizens embrace cellular
Steve Jobs once said, “Every once in a while a revolutionary product comes along that changes everything. It's very fortunate if you can work on just one of these in your career.” On January 9th, 2007 Apple changed this society by introducing the iPhone, virtually putting the world in the palm of society’s hands. IPhones provide individuals with the latest technology, allowing one to do anything from chatting with friends to measuring ones heart rate. This innovation is excellent and makes society’s lives a lot easier by the simplicity and instant gratification. Although helpful to everyone, iPhones have become addictive. This current generation has become attached and less self-reliant, now relying on the technology of a phone. IPhones will continue to evolve greatly throughout the future, only to become more technologically outstanding than the last models.
E-waste is affecting our environment due to the amount of technology we throw away daily, such as the chemicals from these devices gets into the air we breathe. When we look at the topic about environmental justice, we can see how this is shown by events like the Flint Water Crisis. Which is a concurrent event in Flint, Michigan that has affected many due to there being no clean drinking water because of lead poisoning from pipes. Another example is how there are not that many local fresh food markets in America and other world countries which have kept people away from the healthy food causing the rate of obesity to skyrocket. Although these are only a few situations of environmental crisis, I would like to get into how our phones could be
In the year 1973, the first successful demonstration of mobile phone communication was done by Dr. Martin Cooper and John Mitchell of the Motorola Company. The handset used was bulky and it weighed about one kilogram. This was still in the research stages. In 1983, the first commercially available cell phone handset was launched and it was called the DynaTAC8000x. From then on, there was a gradual growth in the development of the handsets, as well as the infrastructure used in mobile telephony. The adoption of the cell phone technology by the masses has also led to an increase in research and its expansion by the manufacturers.
The iPhone revolutionized the mobile telephony sector as a whole with improvements in hardware, firmware, and marketing strategy as compared to all its predecessors. Its launch signaled the beginning of a new age of mobile technology. Before the iPhone, mobile companies used to control and compete by varying the aesthetics of the individual devices rather than firmware improvement (Apers & Paterson, 2010). This led to the stagnation of mobile technology market.
The environmental performance of numerous tech companies has been evaluated and since Apple has grown over time, it has received more attention. There has been a frequent campaign against Apple by different environmental organisations such as Greenpeace requesting for the elimination of hardware components that are non-recyclable hardware components, a comprehensive plan that would make the products of Apple not end up in the waste and the removal of toxins from iPhone hardware (Apple Inc. 2016). As much as such campaigns affect the operations of Apple Inc., they are good since they help in the conservation of the environment thus having a good impact on the
Have you ever looked around at society and realized just how much of an impact to our daily lives that a smart phone has? In 2015 Nielsen group reported that ever four out of five phones purchase is a smart phone(www.govtech). Technology grows more with each passing day. Personal Computers range in sizes from desktops to smart phones. Among one of the smallest and newest personal computers is the smart phone which was created in 2007 (www.govtech.com). A Smart phone is a device that allows you to use it as a cell phone and a personal computer in one. This new size of a person comport also connects you to the internet and to social media. The ability of being mobile has impacted the growth of
This report is on the introduction and globalization of mobile phones and how they ultimately affect our society today. I will detail the origins of the first telephones, including the innovative and creative minds that were the first inventors of the device all the way to how the modern cell phone was created and used to this day. It is imperative to understand that without established “networks,” our current mobile phones would essentially be rendered useless. These “3G/4G” networks are what allow us to stay connected within such a telecommunication-based environment that we, as people, live in today.
The first mobile cell phone was released by Motorola in the year 1973 although it was not technically a mobile phone,. They were two-way radios that allowed people to communicate. This was important because it did not have to rely on base stations with separate cells, the first mobile phone network involved a powerful base station covering a much wider area. There are many people who say they cannot live without, let alone, think about not having a cell phone in their lives. Cell phone are a big part of our society today because of how much people rely on them in their everyday lives. It is rare nowadays to hear someone say that they do not have any type of cell phone. Ninety-one percent of Americans in America have some type of cell phone.

During the 20th century, there were many innovations regarding the telephone. In 1973, the first call from a portable phone was made by Martin Cooper, who was a Motorola researcher and executive at the time. Since its inception, the advancement of cell phones has been exponential (Bellis, 2013a). As a result, cell phones have changed how society works in today's world. Many people lack the insight into how cell phones, or in this case, smart phones, affect the people that use them.
When phones became available to the public they were not considered to be mobile in today’s sense of the word. They were available to have installed in an automobile, they were big and bulky, and they needed and consumed a lot of power to use. The phone networks would only support a few simultaneous conversations. Cell phones since then have made vast improvements in their efficiency, abilities, and size. The first handheld mobile phone wasn’t produce until 1973. The origin...
It has been proven that mobile phones are one of the greatest inventions to the mankind. Mobile phones have become an essential part of our lives. But in the past, having a mobile phone was limited to the people who are rich. Mobile phones are now affordable for everyone, thanks to cost reduction techniques, inventions and improvements over a period of time. With excess mobile phones sets overload the market; they are not just supplying for the needs but are acting as prestige signs for many.
Apple has used metal, plastic, and glass to shape and frame its thoughts of what a cutting edge cell phone should look like all through the historical backdrop of the iPhone. Major designed with the iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 saw Apple push the limits of smartphone equipment, all while contenders were making up for lost time. Since the cell phone industry is moving to bigger screens, Apple has been compelled to react with the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8
