Microsoft’s recently released a new operating system known as Windows 7. This new operating system is Microsoft’s response to the outcry from customers for releasing Windows Vista. Windows 7 used the same structure as Vista but it built on key aspects such as security, performance, networking, and gaming of the operating system.
The improvements made in the security aspect of Windows 7 over the previous Windows operating systems have been significant. The vast improvements in the UAC (User account control) that was introduced in Windows Vista have been widely accepted and praised. While there was only the option to turn the UAC on or off in the new operating system you have much more control. There are multiple levels of control and you can even create your own profiles. “In Windows 7, Microsoft exposes multiple levels of UAC notification control, and has greatly toned down the number of notifications you’ll typically see. Whether you want granular control over the actions of each and every application you install, or simply opt not be bothered, you can choose the setting that’s right for you.” Bit Locker is also on the list of security of revisions made in Windows 7. The new addition is that bit locker now can be used on removable devices unlike Vista where you could only use it on the local hard drive. The new application which is known as application action center puts alerts and warnings into the taskbar on the desktop. Some other miscellaneous additions include a more reliable windows defender, the support for fingerprint scanners, and application locker which restricts programs based upon firewall profiles. When you add these small improvements together they contribute to keeping Windows 7 the most secure Microso...

Microsoft was able in the OS segment to double their revenue per PC when Windows 3.x emerged which still needed MS-DOS to run. Most of the sales Microsoft made were to OEMs who would take the additional step of installing Windows on a computer’s hard drive. This strategy was effective in that the cost of production was relatively low, as an OEM may only need a single master copy to do the installation. The costs to Microsoft would largely be bore in R&D expense rather than production. As part of the Microsoft business model for this segment, Microsoft designed their OS to need periodic upgrades. The upgrades did come at a cost, and in essence, Microsoft was able to create an “annuity” stream for the Microsoft OS segment. In this segment, Microsoft had a monopolistic structure that allowed them to realize huge returns, especially during such a period of technological growth and rapid obsol...

As the internet is becoming faster and faster, an operating system (OS) is needed to manage the data in computers. An Operating system can be considered to be a set of programed codes that are created to control hardware such as computers. In 1985 Windows was established as an operating system and a year earlier Mac OS was established, and they have dominated the market of the computer programs since that time. Although, many companies have provided other operating systems, most users still prefer Mac as the most secured system and windows as it provides more multiple functions. This essay will demonstrate the differences between windows
Microsoft, from its inception, has been known for its software, especially its Windows platform. It has changed the way we operate computers and through its software, has made the computer user-friendly and very efficient. Microsoft, however, does not want to only specialize in the software department. They have thus expanded their excellence in other departments such as gaming, music and hardware.
Not long ago computers were non-existent in many homes. When computers were first introduced to the world, they were for the sole purpose of performing business functions. The only people who owned computers were large organizations. Eventually, computers were introduced into the homes of those who could afford to buy them. Today, just about everyone owns some form of system that they use daily to help manage their day-to-day operations. What many once survived without now seems impossible to do without. As technology continues to grow, it has a greater effect on families and the education system. Some companies such as Microsoft and Apple made it possible to reinvent a new form of technology that would change the world. Each company had some form of struggle and overtime had to keep up with the changes of time and the way people communicated. From the first day of its invention, organizations have had to steadily implement new operating systems to keep up with the demands of the people while staying afloat with competitors. The ways of life for many have changed as well as the way people communicate. It is evident that the history and uses of computers have changed the world but these computers could not perform without the operating systems. Various operating systems will be discussed, how they began and how they each changed since they were first introduced. Although, they all had a purpose each varied in how they performed and changed the lives of many and will continue in the near future.
Late May, 1990, Windows Version 3.0 was released to the public for $149.95 (277.13, in today’s value) it was introduced with the 386 PC that had Intel’s 386 processer which was supported by windows. Virtual memory support improved windows ability to used system resources which lead to better graphics. As stated in A history of Windows - Microsoft Windows (2013), “Windows now has better performance, advanced graphics with 16 colors, and improved icons”. This made it easier to use windows and became at the time for Personal Computers (PC) one of the most widely used GUI operating systems.
Since the early 1980’s, Microsoft Corporation has been a global leader in software technology . Founded by Bill Gates and Paul Allen , Microsoft’s history with computing and software is quite lengthy as is accomplished. According to their company website, Gates and Allen began small, but went on with the express goal to famously ensure that there was “a computer on every desktop and in every home. ” In subsequent years, Microsoft positioned its brand as an innovative leader in software, and begins to proceed to change the way we work. From producing operating systems for IBM’s Personal Computer , to purchasing exclusive rights of the QDOS operating system from Seattle Computer, to then further modifying QDOS into the iconic MS-DOS — a product
From these results, it is reasonable to assume that Windows 7 computers are by far the best choice for the average everyday consumer because of their comparatively low price, high all-around test results, and for the jungle of customization options that are available for users of the operating system.
However, to make things even worst today, it seems that Microsoft did not learned a lesson form Vista, since Windows 8 is somehow reminding on whole that case. Windows 7 somehow got back up company’s reputation, instead of improving it. Microsoft released Windows 8 whose whole structure was more fitting for tablets than computer.
Windows 2000 Professional is up to 30 percent faster and, according to National Software Testing Labs (NSTL) tests, 13 times more reliable than Windows 98. The operating system is the most reliable version of Windows ever produced.
Since I am also a consumer and a student I wanted to learn more about new Windows 8 and how it does operate differently from Windows 7. Like myself, I feel most everyone is more used too and comfortable with Windows 7. I think you can learn Windows 8 with a little time, because if I can learn Windows 8, it is not too difficult for anyone. Surprisingly, after looking at several Windows 8 videos on You Tube, I can now embr...
