Citizens of the World Are Succeeding in Lessening Global Poverty Globally, children struggle to find a decent education,if at all, parents scavenge for even the smallest crumb of bread to feed their family of four, five, or even more and themselves, millions of people are released from their job, roofs and shelters are taken from them in a blink of an eye. Abandoned by their friends, by their family, by those that should have cared, individuals and children wander the streets desperate for any act of kindness from strangers that scurried by daily avoiding eye contact. Poverty results in restraints upon populations in education, finance, human potential, substance and shelter, gender class differences, all disadvantages that tax food sources, diminishing the potential of the cultures’ youth, loss of capital in maintenance and little for prospering of tenable wealth. Ending global poverty empowers a major objective of humanity. According to UNICEF, 22,000 children die each day due to poverty (Poverty Facts And Stats par. 4), and that’s only children. Even though the number may seem surprisingly large, it was greater in the previous years. The chart “Poverty levels over time world population(%)” shows the percentage of poverty level decreasing as the years pass by (Poverty Facts And Stats). From over 30% surviving off of $1.00 a day to a little over 10%, citizens of the world are doing a successful job a bring publicity to world poverty and lessening the amount of people going through it, yet not all. Nearly a billion people entered the 21st century unable to read a book or sign their names (par. 8). A billion people without the proper education, a billion people who would die for the riches and luxuries the middle-class, us, have, a billion people suffering from poverty, about 14% of the world population. Of the 7.15 billion people on Earth today, approximately 2.4 billion people live on less than two dollars and day, and 1.4 billion people live on less than $1.25 a day. More than eight-hundred people go to bed hungry, and more than one million people do not have access to clean drinking water. The amazing stat is that over eighteen thousand children die per day from diseases that are preventable. Kids die from a multitude of cause such as diarrhea, malaria, malnutrition, and disease. (Abbate, Global Poverty, 2014) Each could be prevented with the money you spent on that nonessential item for yourself. Most people do not seem to do this because of the out of sight out of mind principle. Since we never get to see how our aid actually helps those across the world, individuals are less inclined to help. In his article ,“The Singer Solution to World Poverty” (Landau, 2012) Peter Singer provides a unique argument in that he believes that we are no different than a murderer because we had the capability to stop it and didn’t do so. We have the ability to give what we essentially waste to maximize the happiness of another person and reduce poverty around the world. There are many charities out there, that can take the little money that we have or need to give, and can distribute it to help a magnitude of people worldwide. In this paper, I am arguing that we should give what money we can to relief and aid organizations in order to reduce global poverty because it is our duty to maximize the happiness around us.

    What does it mean for someone to be on the lines of poverty or living in poverty? What is this word that is falsely used and missed analyzed? Poverty is the state of being extremely poor or being inferior in quality or insufficient in amount. In 2010, 16.4 million children, or 22.0 percent, were poor in the United States alone. (Tanner, 2014) The poverty rate for children also varies substantially by race and origin. If the rate of poverty continues to rise, will there be any hope left in humanity? The real question is not what is poverty but why is there so many people living in it. The ideal job of the government (federal and state) is to create a better/safer environment for the people. The model the “government” campaign is that everything they do is for the “benefit” of the people. When does the word “benefit” come into play when twenty-two percent of the population cannot supply a place for their children to sleep, put food on the table, and get a job that pays well enough to support their family. Are there any real benefits knowing families living in poverty have only one percent of a chance of getting out? Who is to blame? Where and how did this problem all start? What is this so called “government” doing to help stop the increasing rate of poverty? As you read this essay, it will explain what it means to be truly poor and why the government does so little to help. Include real stories from people living in poverty, what the government is doing to help (and if it’s enough), and is the problem of poverty becoming worst or slowly rising to become better.
