Imagine a woman with red lips, long lashes, and smoky eyes; it 's beautiful and formal. Now imagine a woman with clear skin, striking blue eyes, and faintly pink cheeks; this look is still pretty, but simple and commonplace. Both of these women achieved their pleasant look through the use of makeup. The second look may have seemed natural, but many women do not commonly look that way. Women ordinarily wear makeup daily, so light makeup use has become the "natural" look for a woman. In the United States today, women wear makeup that is designed to accentuate specific desired feminine features, the combination of which indicate the ability to have a child.

Makeup enforces ideals of what a woman should look like and, more than that, what they should be like to be considered feminine.¬ First of all, makeup widens the divide between how men and women look. There are specific differences in male and female features; for example, women have bigger lips and eyes and men have wider noses and more prominent foreheads. Makeup amplifies the features that are more common in women’s faces, and thus widens the gap between our mental images of how men and women look. The gap makes it harder for our brains to categorize an unpainted female face as female. Furthermore, because women are so sexualized, lips become a very important part of beauty, as most sexual encounters begin with kissing. With a pop of color, lipstick attracts attention to the lips, and the most enchanting color is red. According to Abbasi, red is such an attractive color because it mimics the blush of sexual excitement and readiness (“Does a Splash of Red Make a Woman More Attractive?”). On this train of thought, blush is so charming because it also displays an image of arousal. Mascara also supports a more sexualized image. Its purpose is to lengthen eyelashes, even though eyelash length has nothing to do with gender, it’s still considered feminine. Conger gives an interesting explanation for this situation, she suggests that “batting eyelashes . . . suggest a
As part of our culture, while growing up boys and girls are expected to learn the basic skills to fulfill the "roles of their gender." For boys this includes learning all of the the routine maintenance on a car, to work out and be stronger then the girls, and are usually expected to be better with electronics. While at the same time girls are steered towards learning how to cook, clean, and look pretty. All of the female roles require a lot of practice and trial and error before they can be mastered, but the hardest and most time consuming skill to be learned still remains applying make-up. Just as anything else (even writing an essay) the finished product always seems so simple and easy enough to be done by a child in a few minutes. Although, in reality girls spend years doing trial and error to find out what looks good on them and a few more years making it look "natural." This is necessary for every girl go through on her own, to be able to have her own look. However, there is a routine make-up application process that will help any beginning girl with he basics.

All women wish to look their best on their wedding day, prom, or their ten year anniversary, so it is a makeup artist’s job to fulfil this desire. The art of emphasizing one’s most attractive features by highlighting the inner corner of the eye to brighten the eyes, contouring the cheeks to make the cheekbones appear higher and painting on bold lipstick to form perfect, plump lips make the face appear flawless. Some people do not wear makeup everyday, so when they do, their face can appear brightened and awake, therefore they believe they look wonderful. Although many people are confident in their appearance and do not demand makeup to boost their self-esteem, wearing well-applied makeup will always make someone feel
In the article “Understanding Alternative Choices of Handmade Cosmetics in Postmodern Consumer Society” Pernilla Arbajian and Yaran Di discuss how consumers perceive purchasing handmade cosmetics. Di defines “Handmade Cosmetics” as, “cosmetics made by human and made from natural ingredients, as opposed to cosmetics that are mass-produced, machine-made and made from chemical additives” (Di, 2014). The Bee’s Knees definitively can be described using this definition as a handmade cosmetic company. Companies today are aware of consumers being scattered and varied about their beliefs. This study goes through the steps and processes that consumers go through when deciding if a product if handmade or natural (regardless of how it is actually made) and how consumers assign meanings to their products of interest in their daily lives.
I notice now that young ladies take hours to put on make up to wear just for a few hours. For example, my friend Gabby is always wearing make up every day to make her feel good about her appearance. Sometimes we have to pick her up before our friends and I have to head to the movies, we always have to wait outside for her so she can finish putting on her makeup which most of the time we end up being late for the movie. She wears eye liner, eye shadow, foundation, and mascara and even though she wears all this makeup she feels not good enough. In the “Ugly Truth about Beauty”, Dave Barry claims women have insecurities about the way they look and the mindset of being “not good enough” because of “psychological and societal reasons” such as Barbie, the “multibillion-dollar beauty industry” and supermodels. Although men have different perspective about this.
There are a couple of steps that you need to take before you apply your makeup. Your skin is sensitive, and care should be taken to enhance the beauty of your face. Don't just go through the motions of putting your your cosmetics every morning. Make it a regular beauty ritual, and get to know the contours and features of your skin. Your skin will be glowing and radiant when you take time to create a natural look.
We decided to focus our attention on women's prestige color facial makeup in the US. The reason we chose this segment is because it has been growing significantly over the past couple of years. Color cosmetics are of a special interest to us because there have been significant developments in this segment recently. "One of the fastest growing markets is color cosmetics where an aging population and an increase in working women has contributed to a 12% increase from 1995-1999." (Imogen, 2000) This segment of the market is forecasted to reach over $23.6 billion worldwide by the year 2003. (Schervish, 2000)

Makeup has transformed the lives of so many individuals and continues to play an important role in the daily routines of many women (and those men who choose to wear makeup).
