How would women feel today if they were treated unfairly compared to men? Even though many are still treated differently today, it was out of proportion during the 1800s. The Seneca Falls Convention occurred in Seneca Falls, New York in the 1840s. It changed the lives of many people. Before, American women were not able to vote, attend college, and were restricted to being a housewife. The Seneca Falls Convention laid a foundation for the first women’s rights which resolved many problems.

After trying to attend a slavery convention and not being allowed or included on the floor she knew it was time to change how women were seen and treated. In July of 1848, Elizabeth Cady Stanton met with Lucretia Mott, an abolitionist and feminist, and together they brought forth the first women’s rights convention in American history. Elizabeth was titled the president of the National Woman Suffrage Association from 1869 until 1890. Then from 1890 until 1892, she was president of the National American Woman Suffrage Association. With the help of many other women, one being Susan B. Anthony, ultimately known for being the fighter who won the women’s right to vote, Elizabeth Stanton did everything she could to get women in America the rights that they deserved. At age eighty Elizabeth Stanton wrote the “women’s bible” declaring religion was the leading cause of women’s oppression, offending the Christian temperance movement and causing alienation of suffrages. After being abandoned by her once loyal supporters she fell into near obscurity. Susan B. Anthony took over from her mentor, traveling extensively and campaigning on behalf of women. In 1872, she took matters into her own hands and voted illegally in the presidential election. Susan B Anthony was arrested for the crime,unsuccessfully fought the charges and was fined a hundred dollars of which she never paid. Susan B Anthony never gave up
From the 1600s to the 1840s, a minimal education was available to women. They were not allowed to attend college; therefore, it was difficult for them to exceed in anything other than working in a kitchen or a factory. Once women were married, they were immediately owned by their husbands. With little education in working skills, women had no choice but to rely on men.
