Ergotism played a role in The Salem Witch Trial during The Dark Ages. We, as Americans today are extremely fortunate to live in a free, peaceful, and comfortable life. We are surrounded in a clean environment with little to no trash. We receive cures for different diseases so we can remain healthy. Doctors in America today are well educated and care for our well-being. American youth today have the choice to work, if they do they are treated with respect, and they can only work a certain amount of hours by law. Americans in today 's generation eat equal quality food and are not withheld from doing so due to class ranking. We have big schools and education is based on academics, not religion. In America today, we serve any “God” that we want and not just one “Pope ". Lastly, today in America we have few wars and our lives aren 't at risk from wars as much.

...nist back in The Dark Ages. The area was rumored to be contaminated. Not only did the accused and accusers live in the western section of Salem Village but the defenders of the accused live there too. This was Linnda Caporael 's second reason to why ergotism played a role in the trial.
Overall, Ergotism made The Dark Ages a very tough time to live in. It is sad that those living in The Dark Ages were unaware of this deadly fungi. Individuals endured painful reactions from eating Ergot. They lost crops due to Ergot of Rye. Ergot symptoms caused a huge mass hysteria within their community. Due to this mass hysteria, plenty of lives were lost and identities of the innocent we 're stripped. The wrong in the trials were actually portrayed as the victims. And to top it all off, there was no cure for Ergotism, which could have prevented the tragic events that took place.
