Adolf Hitler was born on April 20, 1889 in Braunau-am-Inn, Austria to Alois and Klara. When he was three years old, his family moved to Passau. Then in 1895 they moved to Hafeld. When he was thirteen, his father passed away leaving his mother, Klara, to raise Adolf and his sister Paula on her own. As a youngster, Hitler went to church regularly. He also spent a lot of time playing cowboys and Indians. His best childhood friend, August Kubizek claimed that Adolf was shy but often busted out in anger. The two became inseparable during their early years. In school, however, Hitler's record wasn't very good, he eventually dropped out before his tuition was over. He dropped out with dreams of becoming an artist. On December 21, 1908, Klara dies from breast cancer. In 1909, Hitler moves into flophouses and hostels in Vienna and stays for four years. Finally in 1913, Hitler leaves Vienna to move to Munich, Germany.
Churchill began his political career in the early twentieth century, gaining fame in Parliament throughout the years for being an unconventional thinker. A very influential member of Parliament, Churchill was able to sway opinions in his favor to accomplish his goals. He demonstrated this immense ability to get things done, one example being his upgrades to the Royal Navy. After this, he was able to influence government officials to support the further modernization of the British army through the development of airplanes and tanks. Though he lost his position as First Lord of the Admiralty after the Battle of Gallipoli, he soon returned to having an important place in government when he was appointed Minister of Munitions in 1917 by prime minister Lloyd George. As Minister of Munitions, Churchill would oversee the production and distribution of weapons during the war. Winston Churchill was born unexpectedly at Blenheim Palace, a country house in Woodstock, Oxfordshire. He was the youngest son of Randolph Churchill and Jennie Churchill. Addison stated, “Winston’s father, Lord Randolph Churchill, was a younger son of the seventh duke of Marlborough, a substantial Tory statesman who had held office under Disraeli” (Addison 8). His father was a successful man. Addison added, “His mother, Jennie Churchill, was the daughter of a New York financier, Leonard Jerome, and his wife Clara” (Addison 7). He did not spend much time with his parents. Addison comments, “Neither of Churchill’s parents lacked affection for Winston, but they saw little of him and he felt profoundly neglected” (Addison 11). His parents were pushy and did not think much of him. Winston Churchill had two brothers, one of which was a bad person and the other was calm. The author describes the oldest brother, George, by stating, “He scandalized contemporaries with his adulterous affairs, sold off the Blenheim art collection, and died in his laboratory at Blenheim ‘with a terrible expression on his face” (Addison 9). Winston Churchill’s oldest brother had a bad history that he was known for. Winston Churchill had a wife name Clementine Hozier. He proposed to his wife at Blenheim Palace and they had five children. Winston Churchill, the son of Lord Randolph Churchill, became an officer in the 4th cavalry in 1894. Between 1895 and 1899 he served in Cuba, India and South Africa as a reporter. Churchill entered politics in 1900 and held many government posts until he was appointed First Lord of the Admiralty prior to World War One. Due to logistical and tactical failures during wartime, Churchill was somewhat discredited and lost his naval post. In the inter war period, Churchill remained politically active and made his way up the ranks to become chancellor of the exchequer in Stanley Baldwin’s Conservative government. When World War Two broke out, Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain appointed him to his old post as First Lord of the Admiralty. When Chamberlain was forced to resign, Churchill became Prime Minister. He served throughout the war as Britain’s supreme leader until he was defeated in a 1946 general election. Churchill once again became prime minister from 1951 until his resignation in 1955. In 1953, he was knighted and received the Nobel Prize in Literature.

Both his father, Lord Randolph Churchill, and his mother, Lady Randolph Churchill (Jennie Jerome), were well known throughout England. Lord Randolph was a well-known member of Parliament and, because of his popularity, his wife was also well known. Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill was born on November 30 1874 and died on 24 January, 1965. He was the son of politician Lord Randolph Churchill and Jennie Jerome (an American). He was a direct descendant of the first Duke of Marlborough. Physically he was a small man at 5 feet tall. Churchill attended Harrow and Sandhurst. When his father died in 1895, Churchill was commissioned in the fourth hussars. He later obtained a leave and worked during the Cuban war as a reporter for the London Daily Graphic.

Sir Winston Churchill’s speech, ‘We Shall Fight on the Beaches’ was a wonderful piece of moving rhetoric. The diction that Churchill uses to deliver his message is not so advanced that one cannot understand him easily, but still manages to portray a sense of Churchill’s deeply intellectual status without being condescending. It is a very inspirational piece, a moving speech, and a powerful call to action aimed to uplift the downtrodden population of Britain at the time. Churchill responded to the need for inspiration with his now-famous speech. His use of rhetoric not only inspired Britain, but was a powerful tool that brought about a final victory over the Nazis.

The purpose of this speech was to show the members of Commons that we must fight in this war and we must win, for if England shall lose the rest of the world would lose.
