William Wallace is considered a legend in Scotland. For years, England and Scotland were at war, and behind many of the battles for Scotland’s independence was William Wallace. While the information about him, like any good hero, might be over exaggerated by some historians, what’s true is that he gave the country hope that Scotland could be free from English Tyranny. For years after he died, others took his place in saving Scotland from English rule.
William Wallace was so famous among the Scots that they made a movie about him. The movie was directed by Mel Gibson, and originally written as a book by Randall Wallace. Mel Gibson played William Wallace. In the movie, William goes on his rampage against the English after his wife was attacked by an English soldier. This epic drama was so well received that it won 5 academy awards. Of course like all movies based on historical events, it was filled with assumptions and exaggerations.
No one really knows for sure about William Wallace’s childhood, since he didn’t become famous until later in life. It is believed that he was born some time in the 1270s. His family wanted him to have a good education, so as a child he was sent to France, to study. While he was away, the English were attacking the southern part of Scotland, and killing off Scots.
When William came back from France, he found that his parents had died at the hands of the English army, and that made him extremely angry and vengeful. Whether or not he had a wife, or if the wife was attacked by English is questionable, but what does seem to be true is that the English soldiers were raping the Scottish women. The idea was to get more English blood into the country, but resulting in English babies.

In his final days, even though England was winning, he refused to give up. He was later captured by the English in 1305 near Glasgow, Scotland. He was taken to London where he was tried as a traitor. The English hung him, beheaded him and cut him into 4 pieces and put them at the corners of Scotland. Of course in doing so, it made the Scottish feel that he was protecting them which helped give them the courage to fight back.
William Wallace became a hero and a representative of Scotland’s declaration for independence. What’s ironic is that Scotland’s independence did not occur till about 50 years later, but because of his battles, and more recently the movie, he will always be remembered a Braveheart.
This clause was that Mary Queen of Scots was to marry Edward VI. However historians say that Henry did not take full advantage of the situation and that Mary's advisors were never going to go through with the treaty. Since this was one of Henry's wishes in his will Somerset had to follow it, and because of the Scottish advisors reluctance to go through with the treaty it put Somerset in a complicated situation. Another problem for Somerset was that Mary had a legitimate claim to the English throne so she may have been used as a pawn by France or Habsburg in terms of religion. The speech could be improved with more facts or statistics. Wallace uses rhetorical devices to create his argument, which could be seen as ironic due to his death. He attempted to influence others but struggled with an everyday battle that he could not overcome. His approach to life is understood, but maintaining that approach proves to be difficult. Through the use of dramatization and figurative language, Wallace is able to appeal the audience and leave them with the idea that, “It is about simple awareness—awareness of what is so real and essential, so hidden in plain sight all around us, that we have to keep reminding ourselves, over and over: ‘This is water, this is water’”.

Within the very beginning of the film, the wonderful portrayal of William by Billy Crudup gives the audience a lasting impression by Burton of the blatant resentment and distain William has towards his father and his mythological stories. The Final Scenes of Braveheart Film scripts are written in reverse so that everything we see at the end is led up to in the film itself. Braveheart, directed by its star. Mel Gibson, is a splendid example of this process. The last two scenes of the film show the public torture and the execution of William Wallace and the re-emergence of Scottish power as Robert the Bruce finally takes on Wallace's cause and leads the Scots. to victory at the Battle of Bannockburn.
John Dickinson wanted to remain loyal to Great Britain and oppose independence because he felt that England had given a lot and supported the American colonies since they started. The people considered themselves British and strived to keep their British tradition and ways, so to split for Britain itself would make it seem like they were choosing to change their identity. Elizabeth’s relationship with her elder male cousin, the Duke of Norfolk, was not good at all. The Duke of Norfolk wanted to kill Elizabeth because he wanted to become the king of England. Becoming the king of England was impossible while Elizabeth was still the queen. When Mary was on her deathbed with cancer the Duke of Norfolk tried to get Mary to sign a paper that would allow him to kill Elizabeth and become King of England. The Duke of Norfolk would speak against Queen Elizabeth and try to turn England against her. At one meeting she had to lock him and his men up so he wouldn’t cause a disturbance. When I was first introduced to Genealogy, the study of ancestral family, I went crazy. I Immediately traced my family back to the European countries of Germany, France, Ireland, Wales, the Netherlands, and England. These places made up a large portion of my heritage, but my Scottish roots outnumbered all the other countries many times over. The majority of the lines of my family tree, including the Grahams, trace back to Scotland. I even had a heritage test that confirmed my findings. This encouraged me to get to know my roots more in depth, and so I began to research the land of the Scots. I soon found that the Grahams come from around Lake Mentieth in Scotland. The film that I watched was Michael Collins, Directed by Neil Jordan, I found this film to be a very interesting film regarding Irish history. I was interested in the movie from beginning to end. The actors and actresses in the movie did an outstanding job representing the roles that they were playing. Liam Neeson was an excellent Michael Collins and even bared quite a resemblance. Aiden Quinn played the role of Harry Boland and Julia Roberts played the role of Kitty Kierman. An important stand out role of Eamon de Valera was played by Alan Rickman. This film portrays Michael Collins as an Irish Patriot fighting to gain independence from the British Empire. The film breaks down the different significant events that took place between the Easter Uprising and the time of Michael Collins death.
