In Romeo and Juliet there are many significant moments. However the most significant scene is the Balcony Scene in Ac t2 Scene 2. One of the biggest themes in this extract is love. Before this scene the Capulet household hold a ball where Romeo and Juleit for the first time. Equally; after this scene, Romeo goes to meet Friar Lawrance and this is the first time we see him. In short the balcony scene is where Romeo and Juliet deeply express their love for each other. The epitome of happiness in this scene is the Juliets soliloquy because of the word choices she uses. From the start of the act, it 's clear that the main theme is love. In Romeo’s soliloquy he mentions that ‘Juliet is the sun’. This comment reveals the extent of which Romeo loves Juliet. This is shown by his comparison to the sun, which is used in a metaphorical way. Accosiated with the word sun are high up bright and warm makes it clear to the audience that the theme is love. Romeo uses subtle personification to describe, to the audience, Juliet ‘the sun’ in more detail. ‘Fairest stars’ is an example used in his soliloquy. The ‘envious moon’ literal meaning is a moon, however its metaphorical meaning is of Diana the goddess of the moon and the reason why she is ‘envious’ is because all of the women who are virgins ‘belong to her’. This was believed by all during the Elizabethan era. Moreover, Shakespeare compares Juliet to the ‘sun’ because the connations around the sun is that that you would not be able to live without out it and so this could indicate that Romeo could not live without Juliet.
