A Journey to Your Final Resting Place If God called you home today, will you be ready to give an account of how you are living? That’s exactly what the character Everyman had to do in the morality play, titled Everyman, which was written in the 16th century by an unknown author. God sent Death to Everyman to remind him who his maker was and that it was time for him to take the journey to the other side. Death also reminded him that he has to bring along his book of accounts on this journey. Everyman was not ready for this journey and did not want to take it alone. He inquired if he could bring anyone with him, and Death replied that he could if anyone would be willing. Although Kindred and Cousin loved Everyman and felt sorry for him, they were not going on the journey with him.

These things will be of no good. When Everyman friends and family refused to accompany him on his journey, he thought that he could take his Goods with him. ‘All my life I have loved riches…..I will speak to him in this distress.”(388-391). Little did he know that his goods would not be accompanying him on this journey to his final destination. Just like Everyman, there are some that feel as though material things can accompany them into Heaven. God is not concerned with the houses, cars, money or expensive clothing. What God is concerned with is ones book of accounts: good and bad deeds. Everyman is reminded of this when Good Deeds tells him that she is too weak to accompany him, and that her sister Knowledge can go with him to confess his sins. By the time Everyman had gotten to the end of his journey, he came across Discretion, Five-Wits, Strength and Beauty.
