Dearest Hamlet, I have heard the troubles that you have experienced and I am here in sympathy for you. Losing a father is very emotionally heartbreaking; as I know the feeling well. When I was appointed the King of Thebes, I was given a prophecy declaring that I would have to find the killer of the previous king in order for my kingdom to thrive. I was furiously determined to fulfill this revelation, similar to you, dying for justice. I beg you Hamlet, as a man who has attempted to avenge a death, calm down and rethink your decisions, otherwise the outcome may be severely detrimental. Impulse is yet another one of man’s flaws, as we perform our worst decisions when we are fueled by rage. We have both killed innocent men when we were unstable with anger. I ended up slaying my father to his death, angry at the road blockage his caravan created. However, you and I depicted no remorse over the slaughter of innocent people. Only when I realized I had killed my father did I feel the grief of murdering. It has come to my attention that under impulse, you have assassinated Polonius; the King’s chief counselor. I know that you do not feel the penance for killing but I urge you to control your fury before something pernicious arises. Incest is one of the worst sins one could commit, especially between parents. From my personal experience, even though I was unaware of the situation, I recommend that you confirm you are not falling in love with your mother. Hamlet’s decision to keep the murder of his father a secret to himself, along with the betrayals of many of his close friends and family, leads to his eventual downfall. If someone was there for him, whether it was his mother Gertrude, his girlfriend Ophelia, or Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, maybe his timeless death could have been prevented. Instead, his mother sides with Claudius who wants to kill him, Ophelia won’t go behind her father, Polonius’, back to be with him and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern go behind Hamlet’s back and spy on him for Claudius.

One of William Shakespeare’s greatest works is a play entitled Hamlet. This play is about Prince Hamlet whose father, the king, was killed by his Uncle, Claudius, who then took the throne. Shortly after the death of his father, Gertrude, his mother, married Claudius. His father comes back as a ghost and tells him about the murder and asks him to seek revenge on Claudius. This is when a great controversy arises that is debatable to this day. Hamlet begins to act mad to set up his revenge on Claudius. The question is, does Hamlet still truly possess his sanity, or is he really mad?

The question of the truth behind his madness has become a debate among anyone who lays eyes on the play. In fact, madness plays a large role within the play that will cause many situations as well as effect them. I believe Hamlet unintentionally went mad attempting to act like a mad man.
Hamlet’s Fatal Mistake When you play a part or a role to disguise your true character, it harms you in the end. Hamlet’s antic disposition was a tragic error on his part because it led to his eventual demise. Hamlet displays the antic disposition in order to fool Claudius, although Claudius is the only character to not be fooled. When Hamlet denies Ophelia his love, she goes mad and takes her life. Hamlet becomes confused as to whether he is insane or not.
During the first act of William Shakespeare’s tragedy, Hamlet, Shakespeare uses metaphors, imagery, and allusion in Hamlet’s first soliloquy to express his internal thoughts on the corruption of the state and family. Hamlet’s internal ideas are significant to the tragedy as they are the driving and opposing forces for his avenging duties; in this case providing a driving cause for revenge, but also a second-thought due to moral issues.
Ancient Greek and Christianity both have different vision of death. Therefore, the idea of death and the afterlife was contrarily shown in the two texts. Death permeates Hamlet from the beginning of the tragedy through the ghost of king Hamlet. Suicide was desirable way to replace suffering the life but it is forbidden by the Christian religion. Also Hamlet explains how the body return to dust at the end and what happen in the afterlife. However, death in apology by Plato was unknown idea thus Socrates does not fear it. In addition death is an honourable thing for men. For Socrates death is the nonexistence or the transmigration of the soul.
Do actions speak louder than words? While a cliché, this is the very question explored through Shakespeare’s Hamlet. At its very core, a play seeks to find a balance between pure speech and physical acting. Hamlet follows a young prince grappling with the idea of avenging his father’s death.
In this play we read about a young prince named Hamlet who devotes himself to avenging his father's death. As the play progresses we see that Hamlet is contemplative and demonstrates his true desires and feelings. Hamlet begins to show signs of weakness and his indecision to seek vengeance in his soliloquy “O, what a rogue and peasant slave am I!”(2.2.560). Hamlet throughout the play is perceived as a weak, emotionally unstable, and cowardly individual.
Hamlet has an enormous amount of stress placed on him by the events of his father’s death and his mother’s hasty marriage. Hamlet’s mentality is further stressed by his father’s appearance in the form of a ghost telling Hamlet the true cause of his death, “The serpent that did sting thy father’s life now wears his crown” (Shakespeare 1.5.38-39), and more importantly telling Hamlet to avenge his death and to never forget him (1.5). This must weigh heavily on Hamlet’s mind as he tries to bring himself to carry out such a corrupt act. As Javed describes Hamlet’s ordeal as, “having taken on unwillingly the task of the revenge whose narrower function may have been to avenge a wronged kinsman, but whose wider one was to purge from society the evil which it could not otherwise escape” (332.) The corruption of Hamlet’s character is tragic because as Polonius says: “the safety and health of [the] whole state” depends on him (Shakespeare 1.3.20). The first drastic demonstration of Hamlet’s corruption is shown when he finds Polonius hiding behind a curtain . Hamlet, who believes his uncle Claudius is spying on him, stabs at the curtain, inadvertently killing Polonius. As Dr. Topchyan describes this act, Hamlet does it in “unrestrained passion,” unexpectedly even for himself. Hamlet can only perform the deed once his conscience is clear of any ulterior motive. Furthermore, the thought of incest and murder combined are too intolerable to be borne. Hamlet appears to be repulsed by his Oedipal desires understanding that incest is morally wrong; the confliction within him manifests itself both in repulsion of women and madness. Ironically, Hamlet tries to prevent these thoughts but his actions seem to suggest that he is preoccupied by his mother's sexuality.

The first of these problems is the appearance of King Hamlet's ghost to his son, Hamlet. Hamlet's morality adds a great deal to his delay in murdering the current king, Claudius. One of Hamlet's biggest drawbacks is that he tends to think things out too much. Hamlet does not act on instinct; however, he makes certain that every action is premeditated. Hamlet suffers a great deal from melancholy; this in turn causes him to constantly second guess himself. The Ghost is the main cause of Hamlet's melancholy. Hamlet is a paradox; he is a perplexing character that throughout the play has more to show. Hamlet is a person of contradictions he is inquisitive and profound yet indecisive. The experiences Hamlet goes through led to dramatic changes in his character. In the beginning we are introduced to a young man who is mourning for the death of his father and struggling with the sudden marriage of his mother to his uncle. Hamlet faces the dilemma of wanting to avenge his father’s death and suppressing his intense emotions in order to calculate a plan.
Tragic heroes represent a more realistic approach at the classic hero tales. The original hero’s tale involves a perfect super human saving the day and fighting for justice like Beowulf. The underlying trait of a tragic hero is his tragic flaw that makes him more relatable to the audience and often allows him to demonstrate that downsides of a certain negative quality or overall negative idea of society. Shakespeare uses tragic heroes to display that even people who are considered strong or are expected to be strong fall victim to life’s dark desires. Macbeth and Hamlet typify the idea of an unpreventable evil that affects everyone including the strong and righteous.
