This book report is about Lord of the Flies. This book’s author is William Golding and it published in 1954.
William Golding was born in England at September 19, 1911. He was a British novelist, poet, and playwright. His best work is Lord of the Flies. He got the Booker Prize for literature in 1980 for his novel Rites of Passage and also he received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1983. He took a part in the World War Two. He was in the Royal Navy. From World War II experiences, he said, “I began to see what people were capable of doing. Anyone who moved through those years without understanding that man produces evil as a bee produces honey, must have been blind or wrong in the head.” World War Two was ended at 1945 and after few years were world was still suffered from the aftereffects of war. So that time world was not stabile time. People who entered war were devastated by war and also their family too. All of these are why William Golding wrote Lord of the Flies. The book which is Lord of the Flies is describing all character of human being.
The main characters of Lord of the Flies are Ralph, Piggy and Jack. These three boys are taking top main characters. Ralph was elected by chief of the schoolboy’s group at the first time. He was rational person that was well shown at trying to build shelters and keeping a fire for the smoke that would be a signal for rescuing. Ralph’s election and the conch represented democracy. Piggy has bad eyesight, also has asthma. As his name is piggy, he is fat. Also he is one of the Ralph’s men and he suggested that blowing the Conch this blowing conch made Ralph became a chief. Piggy made many good ideas and this represented that Piggy is intellectual. Piggy was killed by a red rock that rolle...

...rld through the children. In Lord of the Flies, Jack and Roger and other Jack’s tribe members were killing pigs for showing off their power. Especially for Jack, he used Piggy’s death for showing off his power to other boys and he shouted “Has everyone eaten as much as they want?” continuously. In the book that is The hunger Games, it has similar thing that wealthy people enjoyed hunger games which is selected people killing each other.
Most of people might mentioned about Ralph or Piggy at the review section, however I think Jack is the most important character in the book. If Jack does not exist in the book, the story might not be meaningful. In other words, if Jack has not appeared in this book, the story will go what Ralph wants. Everyone will work at building shelters and making fire for smoke signal. Then that story will be just a teenager’s growing up novel.
Jack’s purpose in the novel is to become a leader, but Jack does not want to intervene in his leadership, in the world today people do this happens very often. Even though, Jack is important in this novel, William Golding portrays Jack like a manager of a company because he has many demands.” Who will join my tribe. My hunters will protect you”(Golding 137).This quote says that Jack wants to be over more people. In William Golding’s mind, this can be interpreted in the world by getting a job and having people you work with to help you. Ralph’s purpose in the novel, is that he portrays that there are complications with Jack like in the real world people do not always like who they have to work with. Although, Ralph is an important character, William Golding shows that Ralph stands up for himself and his friends.” I have come to see about the fire and Piggy’s specs”(Golding 160). This quote shows that Ralph portrays a person who stands up for friends and family. Even though, Jack and Ralph have different purposes in the novel, they are still
...cence fall prey to the evil within the novel, demonstrating the corruption of innocence. Knowles and Golding responded to World War II with a novel presenting the darkness of human nature, as the terrors of World War II surpassed all others. However, even today examples of inherent human savagery can be witnessed. People still find joy in the pain of others, similar to Jack and the hunters. For instance, people enjoy violent sports and laugh at the misfortune of others. Moreover, people act self-centered and abandon the needs of others. These selfish actions are not only committed but supported. Many television shows base their plots on personal gain. Competitors have to be willing to sacrifice their follow man for their own personal gain and survival. Perhaps, modern civilization closely resembles the evils within the groups of boys in these novels.
Although the main protagonist and antagonist of the novel can be seen as “Ralph and Jack”, the other boys play a significant role in the novel, as well.
It is in these games were the boys get carried away and Ralph feels a
Lord of the flies dramatizes the conflict between the civilisation and savagery that exists in all human beings. Every choice that the author makes is designed to emphasize the struggle between the order of society, which includes morality, order, law and culture and chaotic elements of humanity’s savage instincts, which include anarchy, bloodlust, the desire for power, amorality, selfishness and violence. As the story progresses we see the swift fall of civilisation and the rise of savagery which is a key motif of this dystopian novel. One of the main characters, Piggy is used to present many allegorical messages such as injustice in society. However as savagery becomes more intense in the novel, Piggy is defenceless and weak so begins to suffer more injustices and eventually
Lord of the Flies is a novel written by William Golding in 1954 about a group of young British boys who have been stranded alone together on an island with no adults. During the novel the diverse group of boys struggle to create structure within a society that they constructed by themselves. Golding uses many unique literary devices including characterization, imagery, symbolism and many more. The three main characters, Ralph, Piggy, and Jack are each representative of the three main literary devices, ethos, logos, and pathos. Beyond the characterization the novel stands out because of Golding’s dramatic use of objective symbolism, throughout the novel he uses symbols like the conch, fire, and Piggy’s glasses to represent how power has evolved and to show how civilized or uncivilized the boys are acting. It is almost inarguable that the entire novel is one big allegory in itself, the way that Golding portrays the development of savagery among the boys is a clear representation of how society was changing during the time the novel was published. Golding is writing during
In the Lord of the Flies, William Golding uses characters to convey the main idea of his novel. The story begins with a war, and a plane carrying several young boys, who are being evacuated, is shot down from the sky. There are no adult survivors; however; the boys were brought together by Ralph blowing on the conch shell. They formed a tribe to stay alive. Slowly the stability and the sense of safety in the group started to deteriorate, similar to the downfall of societies during World War II. They are not only hunting animals now, but they are killing each other like savages in order to stay alive. This action of killing is like Hitler during World War II and his persecution of Jews during the Holocaust.
William Golding, in his fictional novel Lord of the Flies, has created one of the most stunningly elaborate, captivating works of American literature. It is a straightforward story of a few shipwrecked schoolboys that dramatically turns into a multifaceted tale of endless deceit, trickery and all out jealousy. It is in this story that three boys, Ralph, Piggy, and Jack, come to play the pivotal parts of leaders to a group of children who are fighting for the right of survival.
Lord of the Flies is a novel written by William Golding in 1954. Golding’s participation in the Second World War, and especially in the invasion of Normandy may have pessimistically affected his viewpoints and opinions regarding human nature and what a person is capable of doing. This can be seen in his novel, which observes the regression of human society into savagery, the abandonment of what is morally and socially acceptable for one’s primal instincts and desires.
The novel “Lord of the Flies” was written by William Golding to demonstrate the problems of society and the sinful nature of man.
The book Lord of the Flies was William Golding’s first novel he had published, and also his one that is the most well known. It follows the story of a group of British schoolboys whose plane, supposedly carrying them somewhere safe to live during the vaguely mentioned war going on, crashes on the shore of a deserted island. They try to attempt to cope with their situation and govern themselves while they wait to be rescued, but they instead regress to primal instincts and the manner and mentality of humanity’s earliest societies.

William Golding’s Lord of the Flies shows man’s inhumanity to man. This novel shows readers good vs. evil through children. It uses their way of coping with being stranded on an island to show us how corrupt humans really are.
In his novel Lord of the Flies, William Golding shows a story of boys who are trapped on an island, and must figure out how to survive. The story represents the fall of mankind, as symbolism is present throughout the entire novel. It is best seen through a historical perspective. Golding uses events from his own lifetime, the Operation Pied Paper, and Hitler’s ruling to compare it to the major events, the beginning of the story, and Jack’s personality.
