My Historical figure name is John Glenn. He was born in Ohio on July 18 1921 and Is now still living at an Ohio teaching part time at Ohio state. John Glenn is a big part of history and these are some of the things he did to get there.(1.)
John Glenn attends New Concord High School. He complete all of his grades according to John Glenn teachers, he was a great student they said he always got his work done and the only thing he evered talked about was going to space and becoming an astronaut.(2.)
John attended Muskingum University college. He got a bachelor of science degree in engineering this got him even closer of becoming an astronaut. He loved his college, he said if he could of gone back, he would.(2.)
John Glenn attended test pilot school and then joined the naval Air test centers. This is what started John’s flying career. John was a great flyer, he was the best flyer out of all of the people at Air test centers.(2.)
John was always a brave and curious person that Is what mainly got him to where he is now. I think if he was never brave or curious, he probably wouldn't become an astronaut. If he never became an astronaut our history will be so messed up. Im glad John Glenn decided to become an astronaut because of him i've had a different perspective of space and science.
One thing John Glenn always said was “There are times when you devote yourself to a higher cause than personal safety”
John Glenn was the first astronaut to orbit earth. Four decades later, as the worlds oldest astronaut, his courage riveted a our nation.

This is why John Glenn was famous.Always remember him as the man who orbit earth 3 times in one day. Never forget he was one of the brave one’s to do something for our country and this is why John Glenn is my idol.

Lindbergh also inspired many people to create works based on him. For example, a documentary created 2 years ago showed Lindbergh’s famous flight to Paris, postage stamps were created to honor Lindbergh, Mickey Mouse imitates Lindbergh in a short film last year, a song called the Lindbergh was released after the flight, and a lot more. Charles Lindbergh has revolutionized the world to us today, opening up the possibility of air travel for average citizens, like us. As of now, Charles Augustus Lindbergh is Time’s youngest Person of the Decade. Thank you, Charles, and we will always be in your debt.
John Glenn was an all-American Marine pilot. Glenn was a religious family man who was ready to do anything he could for his country. He became the poster boy for America's Mercury Project.

Kennedy, who served as ambassador to Great Britain during the administration of Franklin D. Roosevelt. He graduated from Harvard University in 1940, winning note with the publication of Why England Slept, an expansion of his senior thesis on Britain's lack of preparedness for World War II. His part in the war was distinguished by bravery. In August 1943, as commander of the U.S. Navy torpedo boat PT-109, he rescued several crewmen after a Japanese destroyer off the Solomon Islands rammed the boat. His heroic rescue of survivors of his crew won him the Navy and Marine Corps Medal as well as the Purple Heart. In 1953 He married Jacqueline Lee Bouvier, daughter of a wealthy Wall Street broker, they had two children Caroline & JFK JR. In 1946, and with the enthusiastic help of his brothers and sisters won the Democratic nomination to the House of Representatives in the eleventh district of Massachusetts.

John F. Kennedy was an American hero. I explained his life stories his problems and struggles that made him a stronger man and his accomplishment that made that made the world a better place. Kennedy was not only a president he was also in the U.S. Navy which I think he has pride in his country and will do what he can to make it a better place. I believe that John F. Kennedy was a hero because he wanted to do things people never thought of doing. I believe he was a hero because he would sacrifice his life to protect others. John F. Kennedy was a hero to the world, even after he was assassinated.
Just three months later on May 24 Scott Carpenter also orbited Earth three times in Aurora 7. On October 3, 1962 Walter Schirra, Jr. entered Earth’s orbit in his ship, Sigma 7. He completed 6 orbits and then completed the first splashdown in the Atlantic Ocean. All previous splashdowns and recoveries were performed in the Pacific. The final Mercury mission was the longest.

Once Ronald had finished his years at junior high, he went on to attend Dixon High where he made made passing grades all year round. After Dixon he went to Eureka College in Illinois where he again made passing grades, and even played football. In 1932 he graduated, then sought after a job. My topic this year is “ The Forgotten Hero: Michael Collins and the first voyage to the moon”. This topic came about when I was looking up one of the most famous astronauts of all times Neil Armstrong. I researched the members of Apollo 11 and notice a third astronaut, Michael Collins, whom I have never heard about. Although he was part of the Apollo 11 crew, he is not well-known or recognized for his accomplishments. In my eyes, Michael Collins is a forgotten hero. For this reason, I wanted to acknowledge his contributions to space exploration. My mission is to raise awareness to forgotten heroes, like Michael Collins and therefore selected his as the topic of my National History Day paper.
John Wayne Gacy was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 17 1942. Gacy had an uneventful childhood up until the age of eleven. While out playing he had been struck on the head by a swing. Subsequently he suffered fainting fits for many years.
The following task was to guide a man in orbit around Earth. This involved far more problematic calculations, to account for the gravitational pulls of celestial bodies, and by then NASA had begun using electronic computers. Yet, the job wasn't considered complete until Johnson was summoned to check the work of the machines, providing the go-ahead to propel John Glenn into successful orbit in 1962.
However, he kept pushing on in the space race and continued funding to keep Kennedys dream alive. But on March 18,1965, Alexei Leonov of the Soviet Union performed the worlds first space walk. This was a huge accomplishment for the Soviets, with an added benefit of putting the United States on its heels. He would however encounter a problem; the cosmonauts suit would inflate too much. Preventing him from reentering the airlock and boarding his ship, he would have to open the valve on his suit and release oxygen and risk boiling his blood in the vacuum of space. This even would help shape inventions for new space equipment and pave the way to the first American space walk. Then Edward H. White, astronaut for the United States, would pilot for the Gemini four mission. He would also perform Americas first spacewalk. The brief spacewalk was performed around the fourth orbit of the Gemini IV mission. White was attached to his vessel by a 25-foot umbilical line and a 23-foot tether line, both wrapped in a gold based tape to form one cord. White carried a Hand-Held Self-Maneuvering Unit. He believed, however, that other physics students were much smarter than him. Therefore, he studied electrical engineering and computer science. He graduated summa cum laude in 1986 with a GPA of 4.3 on a 4.0 scale.
