Future Crisis Today at 4pm Eastern Time we will be holding the ceremony for middle school graduates and who will be attending high school. High school dropouts have become a crisis in the United States that is constantly increasing. There are various reasons as to why students drop out of high school. This is effecting our society and also it is effecting are upcoming future students. To figure out a solution we need to find out why are so many Americans opting out of school today, which groups are most in danger of leaving school before graduation and what can be done to encourage young Americans to stay in school. A strong link exists between poverty and high school dropout rates. In the text Still Separate, Still Unequal by Jonathan Kozol the segregation in education is discussed and examples are given to prove that the segregation is regressing all around our country. In the article it describes “as school reform most of these practice and policies are targeting primarily at poor children of color” (Jonathon, 209). Jonathan argues that segregation is still a major issue in our education system. Also the limits for achievement are being set by school districts, which is only making the achievement gap between black, Latino and white students wider. When reading Still Separate, Still Unequal Kozol’s argument indicates that students of the minority basically are limited in what they can achieve from a very young age. Mr. Kozol’s discusses the issue of money and how wealthy white individuals are able to educate their toddlers in very extensive programs before they even enter kindergarten at the age of five. He goes on to say that money is an important object within education system. For the reason that it makes the difference of whether or not a parent can afford to send their child to a private school that costs $30,000 a year, or an inner city urban school down the street. In the artifact it emphasizes that “Ensure students receive individual attention through safe schools, smaller learning communities in larger buildings, smaller classes, and during the summer, over weekends, and in after-school tutoring programs” (Pascopella, 33). This will help the school system and students wanting to be in class to learn. Students will feel equal and not judge by the minority of their class or school. A second solution will be to “Monitor students’’ academic progress through various measures during the school year for a full picture of students’ learning” (Pascopella, 36). Those who are performing throughout the school year, keep track of student achievement and weaknesses. This will help the class, teacher and student future for
