Arguments For School Uniforms

Over the course of the second semester of this class I developed the skill of writing effective arguments. I am able to support certain claims, use valid reasoning and find sufficient evidence to better my argument. I have evidence that shows I have the capability of writing a strong argument. My first piece if evidence is from an argument Miles and I wrote about the reverence of school uniforms in schools and what the impact is on the school. A big argument in the school systems of today is whether schools should require students to wear uniforms or not. Many say the student is bullied for being too poor to afford nice clothes or arriving to school late while trying to decide what to wear. Uniforms also reduce the visual barrier between rich and poor students. The main focus of the school uniform is to create a cohesive identity for students and endorse proper behavior (“School Uniforms”). Schools that argue against it state that it is unconstitutional and that there is no research that shows uniforms benefit learning or the student. They say it stifles creativity and impedes a student’s freedom of expression, both of which are a big part of a student’s life. It is even said that: “Uniform policies are often overly strict and too zealously enforced” (“School Uniforms”). This can lead to rebellious behavior from many angered students. They say, overall, uniforms have no apparent benefit to the student body.
What you should notice in this part of my argument is that I introduced our claim while also establishing the significance of it. I then introduced what side I was arguing but also proceeded to establish the counter claim, or the other side of the argument. Stating both the side you are arguing and the side you are arguing against substantially helps strengthen an argument. I supplied the reader with relevant evidence and concerns for either side of the argument so the reader could better understand hat I was
