Why Kids Should Be Required to Take Cooking/Nutrition Class
Kids nowadays don’t know anything about what they are putting in their body’s and that needs to stop. Kids need to learn what’s good and what’s bad for their bodies by learning nutrition and how to look at the back of whatever they are eating to see what is in the food. By cooking in class and being shown how to prepare a good tasting plus healthy meal. High school kids should be required to take a cooking/nutrition class before graduating, so that most students would change their eating habits and their parents as well.
Today kids need to have a class that they are excited to go to or learn about. A teacher in California states that “her class gets really excited about it, and it’s such an important part of teaching ‘the whole child, she also states Students love to study about nutrition. During lessons incorrect beliefs about food can be corrected” (phoebe copp). Teaching kids how to read the nutritional info on the back of the foods is a great idea to do in the class so they can know what is going into their bodies. according to a teacher in California, “We discuss healthy eating first at recess time. One student used to bring candy every day for snack and after listening to lessons asked his parents to send better snacks for his brain to learn.” (phoebe copp) If we can teach kids to think before they eat it will be very affective such as when they look at a food and something triggers them to look at the ingredients and see it isn’t a good. If kids can start eating more home cooked meals with fruits and vegetables it could change a lot of results to heart or diet related diseases.
If kids took a nutrition and cooking class they would learn about the food that...

...g downhill in spending unnecessary money on healthcare because of how we eat. For example, in why we should teach our kids nutrition facts and what good foods are and where they come from. Now a day some things that were good for you aren’t any more for example Jamie Oliver argues “But milk isn’t good enough anymore. Don 't get me wrong, I support milk -- but someone at the milk board probably paid a lot of money for some geezer to work out that if you put loads of flavorings, colorings and sugar in milk, more kids will drink it”. (Oliver) This is why I believe we should have required cooking and nutrition classes so kids can have fun and do things without being made fun of about their weight. They won’t get made fun of because they will know how to eat healthier and cook healthier food plus know how to make fresh foods such as fresh vegetables into a good tasty meal
