I am currently working for a Health Care Provider in one of their many hospitals. This organization is made up of hospitals, doctor’s offices, and professional buildings. My job requires me to visit Medicare patients in the hospital and inform them of their inpatient rights. Also, I assist the managers within my department with any daily tasks such as payroll, scheduling or clerical work.
Just recently my organization just underwent a merger with two other health care providers. This change occurred to create a large health care system that would spread over a larger area of Michigan. The major driving force that caused this change to occur was the consumer, which is an external force. Consumers wanted to be able to see doctors from this network in areas that were considered out of network. This high demand for the high quality care being provided caused the organization to seek to expand its network without having to completely build from the ground up. The organization recognized the need for this change through consumer feedback using action research. Routine surveys are sent out to recent hospital patients to help gain information on their hospital stay and to see if any changes need to be made. This is how the organization discovered the need for a larger network. Many people complained that the needed to see doctors after their hospital stay for follow up appointments, but the location of the doctor’s office was not conveniently located. Most of the original healthcare system has yet to be majorly affected by this merger. The new additional locations have been largely altered in order to stream line the level and availability of service provided to costumers. There will be an upcoming change within the next year that will affect every area of the organization and that is our health insurance coverage. Currently not every location is proving the same type of health insurance coverage options. Creating a large employee health insurance package that will provide the employees with the best options well be cost effective is still in the works. This an issue that is constantly being questioned by staff because as of now we have exceptional in network coverage and many are concerned that such a heavy increase in staffing this service will be impossible to provide at an affordable level.
