“Why am I here?” is a question without a singular answer. If asked in a strictly literal sense; it’s because I drove here earlier this month. If in the strictly philosophical sense “Why am I here?” is being asked, then I have to admit I don’t know. However I believe that in this instance, the question is looking for an answer in between: why, out of America’s numerous universities, did I choose Northeastern?
Answering that “Why am I here?” in particular requires going back around four years, when I was a freshman in high school, rather than in college. I had (extremely hesitantly) signed up for a new program just being started that year. Known as the STEM program (science, technology, engineering, mathematics), it promised a focus on science and

With the prestigious glamour of those names off the table, I was left to decide between the schools who - despite lacking the same sort of instant name recognition - all had excellent programs. It eventually came down to California Polytechnic and Northeastern. I traveled all the way to California, and loved every second of it. However, what I did realize was that California is a long way away. Returning home would have to be occasional, twice a year at best. Northeastern, on the other hand, is several hours away from my hometown of Bangor Maine. Besides the distance, the other main selling point for Northeastern was the co-op program. Shortly before I had to make my decision regarding the school I’d attend, my brother got a co-op in Geneva at CERN, with a generous travel stipend on top of that. The opportunity co-ops represented - to be able to travel and experience other cultures while getting work experience - seemed too valuable to pass up, and so I chose
I decided at that moment that I would return to school and graduate with my bachelor?s degree. I made a promise to myself that I would finish my education. If I complete my education, I would make my parents proud of me. Plus, I want to be the first person on either side of my family to attend graduate school. Adults return to college primarily because they desire a higher paying career or a professional job. This could be a registered nurse, an elementary school teacher, a policeman or an attorney. It could also be an accountant, a journalist, a librarian, an interior decorator or a beautician (Smith, 2001).
I was attracted to the Norlin Scholars community over any other opportunity at CU because I fit the Norlin Scholars program academically, socially, personally, and in terms of what I want for my future. None of the other programs I researched came as close as Norlin Scholars to matching my ideal vision for my time at CU.
Most Northeastern students take advantage of the unique five-year program and use their six-months to experience more than just a new job. Every year, more students are finding co-ops outside of the metropolitan Boston area.
They both spoke with me about what they thought was the best route with college, sacrifices they made, and how they managed time in college. Dennis advised that going to a community college the first couple years was best and then transferring in order to save as much money as possible. Rebecca told me that she had to move from Pennsylvania all the way to Washington in order to suit her budget and best education. The both of them giving me these helpful advice influenced my decision to stay and attend Rogue Community College and relieves my worries about being forced to go to the very pricey Pacific University in Oregon because it’s not my only

College is a place where people go to learn and to grow as a person. Most people go to college for the same reasons. They want to set a good foundation for getting a job, experience new things, or because their parents wanted them to. All of those reasons apply to me also.
Not one single person on earth can explain why they are where they are in life in a single sentence. I used to think that I would just take a year off of school after I graduated from college. Maybe I would explore or just work a lot and save up some money so I could have a little more freedom in life. Whatever it was, I was not quite sure yet, I just really did not want to be in school for a while. Well, my plans changed when everyone I knew was telling me not to do that because I would most likely not go back. I also saw friends that were older than I was take that break, and then regret it when all of their friends were graduating without them. I changed my mind pretty quickly after hearing about and witnessing their mistakes and decided to go to college right out of high school after all. But after attending Shasta College for just a few weeks, I realized that I actually liked going to school. I found a whole new love for learning. I actually enjoyed soaking up information and learning from my professors. Looking back on my life, I'm so glad that my little idea of not going to college for a while was out weighed by all of the reasons that did cause me to go. My primary group which consists of my family and my boyfriend, the way I view myself, and the values that I hold close to me all greatly affected my decision to attend Shasta College.
My first year in college has been a rewarding experience. As I look back on my Why College, Why Now essay, I realize that I have gained a tremendous amount of knowledge about myself. I am proud that I accomplished my goals I made in my first year of college and I exceeded my expectations. I still have the same goal for the future, but I added more goals for the future. I am attending Wilmington University because I want to make my future brighter. Attending college and earning a degree in communication media will help me obtain an exciting job as a professional journalist.
Why am I really in college? I believe this is a question that a majority of students ask themselves on a daily basis. College can be a whirlwind of stress and deadlines, but all college students put themselves through this hectic adventure for one reason: a career. In today’s society a college degree is most often than not required to find a stable job, which is what an abundance of college students are seeking. In order to get the career we are dreaming of, we have to put ourselves through college and acquire the knowledge we need to succeed in our career path.
Often times people inquiry us, “Why we're here?” I’m present in this world because I was destined to be here. I attend to this school because it was my decision to come here. I made it to my freshman year of college because I performed well in high school, studied, imposed all my work and dedicated my time to get a better future. When I came to the United States, English was not my forte. However, I did not want to let this obstacle to hold me down. I was determined to prove to my family that I can become someone to be proud of .
The reasons I would love to attend college are because of both personal experience, and because I want to reach the full potential God has gifted me with. Throughout my life I have been faced with many struggles regarding my health. When I was young, I loved playing sports and dreamed of competing on high school teams. The Lord, however, had other plans for my life. As a result of my health struggles I have been attending physical therapy consistently for the past six years. Through the years, I have seen the miraculous ways the therapists have helped not only me, but all of the patients that walked through their door. For example, I watched them turn a workout center into a Star Wars lair in order to inspire a 5 year old boy to fight through the hardships of his heart surgery recovery. Through the inspiration they hoped to pass on to him, they inspired me to try to make the same difference. Seeing firsthand the affect that a physical therapist can make has opened my eyes to see what I really want to do with my life. Over the past few years, my passion for becoming a physical therapist has grown, and is continuing to grow
People have very different reasons on why going to college and getting an education is important for them. Some people go to college because that is what is expected of them, and others go because they have nothing else better to do. However, I am interested in going to college and obtaining a good education because it will benefit my family, my country, and me.
Existentialism is a phiosophy which revolves around the central belief that we create ourselves. External factors are not important. It is the way that we let external factors affect us that determines who we are. As individuals we all have the freedom to choose our own path and that is what life is all about. Along with the freedom of choice comes the responsibilty of one's actions which can make some people anxious but give others meaning to their lives. To overcome this anxiousness and accept responsibilty is to meet the challenges of life and to truly live it. I can adopt the existentialist approach which states that to live life is to experience happiness and absurdness and to appreciate both as a part of life.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1; 1, King James Version). The word of God is all powerful when he spoke things happened, one word from our master and mountains would move. The birth of Jesus was a prophecy that came to pass so this lets me know that this was foreseen as an act of love from our Lord and savior. Jesus giving of himself to save the soul and sins of man shows unconditional love that no one can compare to. God’s purpose impacts my worldview because of the lessons he taught, the miracles he performed, and the death and resurrection he faced.
Many people have a stage in their life when they stop for a moment and think “what am I here to do?”. For me that stage in life had arrived a long time ago. I was about fourteen years old, I felt alone, I felt scared, but most of all I felt useless I didn't know in what direction my life was going. I kept asking the Lord to show me, to lead me to what he wants me do to and to shape me into who he wants me to be. When I say purpose most people think about the career I want to have, while having a career is important to me. I feel like that still doesn't complete my purpose. I want to do more for us, for humanity, for our future. I believe my ultimate purpose in life is to help people in need of attention and affection. I think that the Lord has put me through difficult obstacles in life so that I could help the people that went through or are going through the same things that I have left in my past. My motivation for doing this is first of all is knowing that this is what God wants me to do, and knowing that he is blessing me. And then of course is helping the people, seeing their smiles and telling them that they are not alone and that I understand them. And will help them with whatever I can. What I do to achieve my purpose is that I go to many centers, and meet people, mostly children that have been through any kind of abuse.
