Educational reformer, Horace Mann, once said “Every addition to true knowledge is an addition to human power.” My whole life I have heard that teachers are the backbone of every society. Without teachers, mankind would be decades behind where we are today. It is my goal to become an outstanding teacher, just like the ones who have invested their time in order for me to learn and grow. I have been inspired by influential people, been able to teach and lead a group of my peers, and have listened to other teacher’s insights about being a teacher. For these reasons, I want to become a teacher. There have been dozens of teachers in my lifetime that have changed me and have made an impact on my life. If anyone actually knows me, they will know that …show more content…
According to my English teacher, Hannah Cates, “Teaching is a field where I can be creative each day. I can also feel as though I have the ability to positively impact future generations. To me, teaching is about learning. Learning about myself through the eyes of my students, and providing moments where students may learn something new about life.” Psychology and History teacher, Gwyn Skrobul, thinks “Being a teacher today is different than it was many years ago. Today 's society has targeted teachers as being the biggest problem with our growth and competitiveness in the world. Teachers are seen as incompetent to make professional decisions about curriculum and instruction. When I began teaching in 1986, it was a great joy. I still thoroughly enjoy the insights and humor of young people! Teaching is who I am. It is a calling from God. I have been called to inspire and stimulate young people and help prepare them for life. Everywhere I go, everything I do, I see through the lens of teaching...how can I use that in the classroom?...how will that excite my students?” In making these comments, it is clear that teachers have a common goal. Teachers want their students succeed in and outside the classroom and to be the very best that they can. Teaching is not for everyone. Everyone has their own calling and teaching is mine. It doesn’t matter about the pay or title about your name, it’s about teaching the next generations of students. Besides, teachers are not here for the money. If they were here for money, this wouldn’t be their job, they would be a dentist or surgeon. Teachers do their jobs because they want children to learn and discover who they are through the process of teaching. Equally important, a large amount of teachers will spend countless hours before and after school to insure that their students are getting the best
I am an African American female who attends the University of Chicago Charter School, which is located on the South side of Chicago. I am seventeen years old and I live and attend school in a predominantly Black neighborhood. I have seen plenty in my seventeen years of living. My goal is to go to college and become a teacher, so that I can return to Chicago and help the people in my community. In six years, I will be giving back to the community and helping the world become better place. I will help teach kids not to live in stereotypes and let them bring them down.
Before her tragic death in space, Christa McAuliffe left us with her inspirational words, “I touch the future. I teach.” Since I was in second grade, I knew, without a doubt, that I wanted to be a teacher. After considering my options and analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of being a teacher, I came to the conclusion that being an educator was the only profession that would completely satisfy me. Consequently, I have encountered a lot of criticism because of my decision. However, these opinions have only encouraged me to strive to become an extraordinary teacher that will change the lives and instill knowledge into students that will last a lifetime.
A teacher, also known as an educator, instructor, professor or tutor is meant to instruct. Their main job is to educate children and adults so they can later on have a career for themselves or expand his or her knowledge about the career they have chosen. Without teachers, many people would not have jobs let alone have basic knowledge. The state government employs the majority of public school teachers in the U.S. Whether they are teaching elementary school, middle school, high school or college/university, their main focus is to help students have a better understanding of a specific subject. In this essay, the topics that are being focused on are what a teacher’s duties are, the required education in order to become a teacher, job growth/outlook, plan for becoming an elementary school teacher, as well as the strengths and barriers.
“This is the value of the teacher who looks at a face and says there’s something behind that and I want to reach that person, I want to influence that person, I want to encourage that person, I want to enrich, I want to call out that person who is behind that face, behind that color, behind that language, behind that tradition, behind that culture. I believe you can do it. I know what was done for me.” (Maya Angelou) America is yearning for teachers who are passionate about their jobs. America is desperate for a change in teaching. This generation needs teachers who wants to influence their students, creating something so wonderful, and making a diamond out of the ruff. There is more to being a teacher than handing out worksheets and collecting them a day or two later. Being a valuable, memorable, or successful teacher takes dedication. A dedication that will forever pay off.
Teachers bear the heavy responsibility of molding the minds of our nation’s most precious resource, its children. The road to becoming a teacher is a long one, involving post-high school education, people skills, and a desire to change lives. These traits, when accompanied by experience and good techniques, form the foundation for an effective, life-altering educator.
When I think about becoming a teacher, I think about how I can make the world a better place. I know I can’t do everything to change the world, but I can do something, I can teach.
There are so many reasons that have inspired to become a teacher. When I arrived in the united states without a single clue on where life was taking me. School was a place I hate, because I did not understand what my peers were saying to me. There were days that I was teased because I could not understand what the teachers were saying to me. Thankfully my school had a Spanish speaking teacher that helped me a lot and translated to my parents every time that is was needed. Today, there are still many students who go through the same situation I went through. I want to be that teacher that can help and make school easier on the students and parents whose first language is not English. I want to show my students that speaking Spanish. I want to make a difference in people’s lives. I know that
“I wanted to become a teacher to be able to make a positive difference on the future of children. For me, it is fulfilling challenge, stimulating the next generation to become lifelong learners. I have always been grateful to my mom (who is a retired teacher) for implanting values in me. I feel I should contribute what I have learned and experienced over the years. This way I will be paying back and at the same time can fulfill my desire of enhancing the education system.”
To begin out of the countless professions one has to chose from in the world today I have chosen to become a teacher. I have chosen to become a teacher because I myself am a product of some whom I consider to be the best teachers in the world. As a child in North Carolina I was inspired by a wonderful woman named Mrs. Hollyfield. Mrs. Hollyfield taught me that no star was too far out of reach, if I put my mind to accomplishing my goal I could make it. Mrs. Hollyfield inspired me to be the best I could be at anything I wanted to be. As I have grown I have had other important teachers, some whom I am surrounded by daily whom inspire me to set out to accomplish my dreams. These wonderful inspiring people in my life have led me to the decision of becoming a teacher.
My interest in teaching started at a young age. I used to watch my teachers in awe as they were able to find new ways to get their students involved and excited to learn. Their enthusiasm to teach was so inspiring. I would often find myself using that same fervor as I grasped each concept. I, then, was able to relay it to my fellow classmates as a peer tutor. To this day, becoming a teacher is a passion that flows through me. However, my enthusiasm and passion are not the only reasons I would be a good teacher. I aspire to see a student’s ability to grasp the knowledge they never before understood. I aspire to see a student succeed at something they never thought they ever could. I aspire to not only support students with academic skills, but also with life lessons about the value of community, pride in one’s own ethnicity, good citizenship, sportsmanship, and more. I aspire to play a fundamental role in ensuring that all students from all cultures and learning abilities have the opportunity to be guided in a positive learning
Addressing the question of how I got into language teaching took me back in memory to my childhood. I adored my English language teacher and the English language was like music to me. I also enjoyed watching English movies and I even remember that I used to repeat utterances after the actors while watching movies. I don’t know from where I got this passion to English, but I know that I wanted to become an English teacher ever since. I guess living in a country where French is the predominant language of education gives English teachers special position that is not only unique, but also prestigious. Unlike Harmer who did not intend to be an English teacher, I grew up with a dream to be an English teacher someday. Eventually,
When I enrolled into college, I realized that becoming a teacher is a very important task. Teachers are forming the mold of future doctors, lawyers, teachers, and much more. When I become a teacher I want to portray positive characteristics that will be beneficial to my students.
There have been many factors that have inspired me to this career choice. Watching my teachers, both past and present, has inspired me to become a teacher. I have a genuine interest in lifelong learning and as such I have the desire to not only instil knowledge and values to others, but also encourage them to share my passion for learning. Social Justice and leadership roles at school, along with my extra-curricular involvement with Cowra Youth Council, have highlighted my ability to work with and for the benefit of young people. In essence I know that my abilities and aspirations will make me a good teacher.
‘Teachers are more than any Other classes the guardian of civilization.’ They keep the torch of civilization ever- running. They are the potential builders of the nation. Alexander, the great, uttered. “To my father, I own my life; to Aristotle, the knowledge to live worthily.” Aristotle rightly claimed. “Those who educate children are more to be honored than even their parents.” I think, a teacher is in a better position in the society to serve the nation well and command honors and respect from the people of all walks of life. A teacher and respect from the people of all walks of life. A teacher never dies out from the memory of the people. He remains ever fresh in the inner most hearts of the living like the glittering stars studded in the sky. When he dies, he dies a noble death and is remember till the end of the world. My motto in life world is. “To serve man is to serve god.” This is why; I think the grounds of my choice to become a teacher leave no room for any
Being a teacher is not an easy task as many people could think. To be a teacher does not only imply to know the subject to be taught, it also includes being willing to constantly improve oneself integrally, as much as updating the resources and materials one uses in teaching. Reflecting and analyzing over and over again the best way to teach to learn and how to make students to extend what has been learned. The many hours spend in the classroom will never be enough to plan lessons, prepare materials, review pupils tasks and exams, as well, all the administrative requirements one has to cover for whatever institution we work. Besides all this a good teacher, a professional one, will have to find the time to keep preparing to improve oneself.
