When I was ten years old, my grandmother taught me how to knit. I never had an interest in knitting, nor did I find it comforting. It was difficult, and I would always grow frustrated when the string would knot together. Till this day I go through the trauma of knitting anything I can create from scarfs to sweaters. I sit there for hours doing something I do not even enjoy. At this point, it seems like insanity. However, I do this to myself for one reason and one reason only, and that is to improve my dexterity. Dexterity is a skill in performing tasks, especially with the hands. Dentists must be trained at working with their hands due to working with precise tools in a small area. Over the years, I have been working on my dexterity in order to become a great dentist whose hands do not tremble while drilling into patients’ mouths. Along with dexterity, dentists also …show more content…
Jajou, I questioned the maintenance of his career. What I acquired was that dental practices all vary and this question does not have one general answer. Dr. Jajou currently owns his own practice, which means he his in charge of his office and pays his employees making his salary higher than common dentists. Professional organizations and conferences are not important in the overall outlook of dentistry. On the other hand, Dr. Jajou had plenty to say about the technology used in dentists’ offices. Digital dentistry, or the use of dental technologies, involves lasers, digital scanners, and x-ray machines. However, only dental laboratory technicians use this expert machinery. Dentists use drills, mouth mirrors, probes, forceps, brushes, and scalpels on patients. Later, I asked why he is excessively passionate about oral health from seeing how captivated he is to answer my questions. In the same manner he responds describing how oral health is a huge part of overall health because plaque can affect can cause heart problems and other major health issues beyond your

The duties of a dental hygienist can be stressful, they begin by preparing the treatment room for the patient by protocols. Then, they prepare the patient for the dental work by seating the patient and discussing any questions or concerns the patient has for visiting that day. The hygienist then proceeds to sterlizing, sharpening, and arranging the instruments depending on what is needed due to the patient's oral health. The hygienist then detects any diseases by using an oral cancer screening, visually and physically examinging the gums, then uses probesto locate periodontal diseases. This job requires a quality understanding of the body due to the diseases carried ...

Most people hate going to the dentist and getting their teeth cleaned but it is very important to have strong and healthy teeth. I had braces for three years I always thought a Orthodontic Hygienist job was very interesting, although I never had any thoughts on pursuing a career in that field. I recently started taking an serious interest in becoming a Registered Dental or Orthodontic Hygienist after shadowing the dentist and his hygienist at my home town Wrightsville Family Dentist Office. Dr. Justin Ragen and Ms. Charlene Kay has made a huge impact on my decision of going into the dentistry field. I got the privilege of watching them perform hands-on producers such as taking x-rays, monitor development
A dental hygienist is a very important role in any dental office. As stated by a dental assistant, “Dental hygienists work closely with the dentist as well as hands on with the patients. They assist dentists with operative procedures such as fillings and extractions, and making molds of patients teeth” (Wilson, Jennifer). A large part of their job is teaching patients proper dental care to ensure a lifetime of healthy teeth. This includes proper brushing and flossing techniques. According to the job out look, a day as a dental hygienist can include taking x-rays, cleaning and scaling teeth, charting treatment plans, putting sealants on teeth, taking impressions of teeth and completing information about the patient’s oral and medical history (Summary). In some states dental hygienist are allowed to give local anesthetic and place and remove sutures (Delivering Local Anesthetic). According to advantages of becoming a dental hygienist, hygienists spend more hands on time with the patients than the dentist does. These are some of the instruments that dental hygienists use on a daily basis: toothbrush, scaler, mirror, ultrasonic scaler, explorer, suction, computer, salvia ejector, rubber cap polisher, dental models, x-ray machine and probe. The dental hygienist uses a toothbrush to remove soft plaque from the teeth. Plaque is a soft coating on the teeth that contain bacteria. The bacteria can cause tooth decay and gum disease. The amount of plaque on the teeth gives the hygienist an idea of how well the daily brushing and flossing of the patient’s teeth are completed on a regular basis. The scaler is used to remove hardened plaque or calculus from the teeth. The mirror is used to look closely at the surfaces of the teeth a...
As discussed earlier one of the most interesting thing I find in dentistry is it 's Colette connection to cosmetology dentistry is very much in art as it is a science and so it 's very important to be able to visualize the structure of the two and how it correlates to the patient 's smile that interests me going into this industry because it 's what I 'm good at as a cosmetologist that was my job was to be able to visualize how someone would look with a particular style so I definitely enjoy the art side of dentistry and it 's definitely what drew me towards dentistry as opposed to the other healthcare profession you have to be creative and you have to have hand skills it takes to be successful dentistry is always evolving towards patients and their aesthetic needs you know 30 years 20 years ago even amalgam fillings were the most commonly used restorative material for fillings and now today composite which is a white filling material is the most common use dental restorative filler material and that is solely because it is tooth color and it 's aesthetically pleasing so you definitely are restoring the patient back to their natural looking smile the art of dentistry is also very rewarding because the work that you do on your patients they get to take home with them and even though they 're not exactly showing off their tooth to everyone you know that your skills and your product that you did by hand is improving the health of your patients so they 're definitely things
Healthcare is a necessity to sustain society. Dentistry is an area of healthcare that I feel extremely passionate about because access to proper dental care is limited, especially in the underserved communities. As an African American, I want to become a dentist and healthcare provider in the hopes of helping patients and adding to the diversification of the field. With a growing minority population in the United States, it has become apparent that there is a shortage of black dentists. This is problematic because underrepresented minorities are in great need of access to culturally connected dentists who understand their clinical needs as much as their lives and their challenges. I believe that when the profession includes a range of ethnicities
I decided to do my research report on dentistry because it is a perfect blend of science and art. It is a science in that you must fully comprehend on the different types of diagnostic and procedures you are doing. It is an art in that you are constantly working with your hands to create a beautiful smile. The impact you make on helping a person achieve an impeccable smile is not one to compare with materialistic things like money or cars. People often mistake dentist as only doing practices when in fact they could do more, like research. I was fortunate enough to have been given the opportunity to interview Dr. Sarah Pham, DDS, a close family friend who practices dentistry in her own private office in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Pham was
I have undertaken work experience at a local NHS practice to observe what the profession entails. The difficulty of the job was admirable due to the level of manual dexterity and patience involved. In addition, I saw the importance of compassion that dentists showed to their patients
I was the main source for consultation and coordination of care services for those in the need of dental care. During my specialty trainings, I developed, conducted and participated national and international research programs on oral health care. Furthermore, I had responsibilities to teach and train pre-doctoral students and post graduate dentists as well as dental personel on quality education of patient care, and clinic management.
Learning how to educate people in aspects of the teeth is very important, now some heart-disease has been linked to bad teeth. Other problems of the body have also been tentatively linked to bad teeth. Even to keep apace with the job they have, dentists need to attend dental seminars, and short training courses or some videos and lessons. Care changes almost
Nowadays the practice of dentistry is becoming more challenging and complex because of the information explosion regarding dental materials and equipment, increasing need for continuous professional development and an increasingly litigious society. Hence there has been a paradigm shift towards evidence-based healthcare .

Dentists have been around for thousands of years. Dentistry got its start in the Indus Valley of India And Pakistan. “The earliest history of treating tooth related problems goes all the way back to 7000 BC, where the Indus Valley Civilization shows evidence of treating the mouth for tooth decay.
