For many years, since the time of the Triumviri Nocturne and the Vigils, many lives have been saved by some form of an emergency medical service, and since then it has evolved into what it is now a complex life-saving system that has saved many more lives. From the origin of medical responders to the creation of paramedics, people have risked their lives for others, and in between is what is known as an Emergency Medical Technician or EMT.
What is an EMT?
Emergency Medical Technicians are healthcare providers of the emergency medical services system and are trained clinicians who respond to emergency situations regarding medical issues and traumatic injuries. In 1969, President Lyndon Johnson’s Committee on Highway Traffic Safety recommended the creation of a national certification agency to establish a set of standards for training and examination of personnel active in the delivery of emergency ambulance service, which eventually led to the creation of EMTs.
What levels of training are there for EMTs?
In the state of California, there are currently a total of three different levels of the EMT. First, there is the basic Emergency Medical Technician. EMTs are trained in the use of Automatic External Defibrillators (AED), CPR, oxygen administration, bandaging, splinting, emergency childbirth, clearing obstructed or blocked airways, and the administration of nitroglycerin, epinephrine with an Epi-Pen, and aspirin. The second level of an EMT, is an Advanced EMT or AEMT. Advanced EMTs are trained in the use of automatic and manual defibrillators, CPR, oxygen administration, bandaging, splinting, emerge...

...at an EMT is exposed to. However, nothing is more stressful and traumatic than knowing that some patients may be so gravely ill or mortally wounded to the point where the patient has little to no chance of surviving, and that not everyone can be saved.

Conclusion
In brevity, becoming an EMT may take a great deal of time and effort, but in the end, it is a very good career choice and may open up better opportunities in the future, and although it may be very stressful, many lives will be saved because of it. In conclusion, there is probably no better profession than that of an Emergency Medical Technician.
