Why is basketball the most difficult sport allow me to explain. First and foremost it is the most universal sport statistically and consist of 5 difficult task such as passing, rebounding, shooting, dribbling and defense.Along with other factors such as stamina, clutch, tenasity, power and speed. The purpose of rebounding is to successfully gain possession of the basketball after a missed shot or free throw, as it rebounds from the hoop or backboard. This is a important role in the game, as most possessions end when a team misses a shot or turnover. There are two categories of rebounds offensive rebounds, in which the ball is recovered by the offensive side and does not change possession such as after a missed shot, and defensive rebounds, …show more content…
A movement by an offensive player without the ball to gain an advantage position is known as a cut. A legal attempt by an offensive player to stop an opponent from guarding a teammate, by standing in the defender 's way such that the teammate cuts next to him, is a screen or pick. The two plays are combined in the pick and roll, in which a player sets a pick and then "rolls" away from the pick towards the basket. Screens and cuts are very important in offensive plays; these allow the quick passes and teamwork, which can lead to a successful basket. Teams almost always have several offensive plays planned to ensure their movement is not predictable. On court, the point guard is usually responsible for indicating which play will occur. There are two main defensive strategies: zone defense and man-to-man defense. In a zone defense, each player is assigned to guard a specific area of the court. Zone defenses often allow the defense to double team the ball, a manoeuver known as a trap. In a man-to-man defense, each defensive player guards a specific …show more content…
In 1959, a basketball hall of fame was founded in Springfield, Massachusetts, site of the first game. Its rosters include the names of great players, coaches, referees and people who have contributed significantly to the development of the game. The hall of fame has people who have accomplished many goals in their career in basketball. An upstart organization, the American Basketball Association, emerged in 1967 and briefly threatened the NBA 's dominance until the ABA-NBA merger in 1976. Today the NBA is the top professional basketball league in the world in terms of popularity, salaries, talent, and level of competition. The NBA has featured many famous players, including George Mikan, the first dominating "big man"; ball-handling wizard Bob Cousy and defensive genius Bill Russell of the Boston Celtics; Wilt Chamberlain, who originally played for the barnstorming Harlem Globetrotters; all-around stars Oscar Robertson and Jerry West; more recent big men Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Shaquille O 'Neal and Karl Malone; playmaker John Stockton; crowd-pleasing forward Julius Erving; European stars Dirk Nowitzki and Dražen Petrović; more recent stars LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Kobe Bryant, and the three players who many credit with ushering the professional game to its highest level of popularity: Larry Bird, Earvin "Magic" Johnson, and Michael Jordan.

“Keep moving the ball around and dump it inside to Hakeem.” – Rudy Tomjanovich Sounds pretty easy right. Wrong. While Hakeem Olajuwon was one the most dominating centers that the NBA has ever seen, the defense usually didn’t let him get easy buckets inside the paint. Or at least try not too. The offense that coach Tomjanovich used during the Houston Rockets back-to-back championships relied heavily on Hakeem’s post skills and the ability of their outside shooters to knock down wide open looks. This kind of offense is known as a 4-Out, 1-In Motion Offense and it is probably one of the easiest offenses that a team can use. The concept of the offense is to get the ball and defense moving and end up getting the easiest shot possible. This system requires good outside shooters and at least one decent post player. Deciding on which sets to use depends on the players on the team skill set and what kind of defensive set the other team is playing. In this paper I will break down three of the most used sets of the 4-Out, 1-In Motion Offense when an opponent goes into a man-to-man defensi...
Since its creation in 1893, the sport of basketball has been one of the most popular sports in the United States. One wouldn’t have to search long to find a basketball court and a pickup game in most American cities. Many people around the world look up to the stars of the National Basketball Association as role models.
Our defensive involves all five players to play together: talking on defense, seeing the ball, and moving as the ball moves” (Coaching Basketball). After playing great defense, they can reward themselves on offense. Coach K tends to run a motion offense. Most of the time Duke’s motion offense has three guards on the perimeter, at the three-point line, and two post in the key. Motion is all about spacing and cutting. “The combination of the spacing and cutting through the middle continually opens up the driving lanes” (Kelbick). Opening up the driving lanes allows for a player to drive into the basket and kick the ball back out if necessary, creating multiple scoring opportunities. Duke is extremely successful with this offense. For instance, the 2017-2018 basketball season they are averaging ninety-two points each game (Kelbick). When Coach K’s defense and offense come together, it is outstanding to
Shooting is the main part of basketball. If you don’t shoot, you don’t score and if you don’t score you lose, and nobody likes to lose. Shooting the ball is something that takes a extreme amount of time for it to become perfect. I’ve been playing basketball for over 10 years and I still don’t know how to shoot the perfect shot.
I play basketball, not only because it gives me a source of exercise, but it also allows me to be engaged in a competitive atmosphere again. To play basketball, you start knowing little and learn from your coach a lot more. It is important to learn how the game works from the different techniques of the game to the rules, goals, and communication that come with the game of basketball.
The paint, or the boxed area that extends up to the free throw line, is like Fort Knox: It’s heavily guarded. It’s because shots made in the area have significantly higher chances of going in. The biggest players in each opposing team have the best chances of being able to score inside because of their size advantage. Smaller ones can score inside too but they need to be very creative and athletic to consistently do it against much larger defenders. The various ways we can score inside the paint include jump shots, lay ups, hook shots, tip-ins or dunks.
When the league was created, the game was only made up of seventeen teams, both from small and large cities(History.com Staff NBA is born). The first NBA finals was played in 1947, and the first All-Star game was in 1951(NBA.com NBA Top Moments). However, through the 1950s fan support was lacking. By 1954, the NBA was down to only eight teams(History.com Staff NBA is born). This same year a person by the name of Leo Ferris invented the twenty-four second shot clock. This helped speed up the pace of play, which allowed the game to become faster and more exciting. In the 1960s the NBA was beginning to grow, but a rival league known as the American Basketball Association of the ABA challenged the NBA. However, this didn’t last long, by 1976 the ABA and NBA merged into one league. Another milestone for the

Backstory of Basketball Basketball has been played since 1891, and still continues to be played today as well. Basketball is an intriguing game played by 2 teams with 5 players from each team on the court at the same time. Basketball, as it started out in 1891 had no African American athletes in the sport. That was still going on, even as late as the 1950’s.
The most important part of the game of basketball is shooting the basketball, after all the object of the game is to put the basketball through the basket. A shot is taken by a player pushing on the ball and launching it toward the basket and upon the ball hitting the rim or backboard physics refers to this action as a contact force. Using this concept of contact force a shot can be calculated exactly. From a player’s height, the mass of the ball and a given position on the court which would include the distance from the basket it is possible to calculate the exact angle and force the shooter must apply to make a basket every time he or she shoots the ball. Of course if it were this easy basketball would not be as fun to watch or play. The problem with hitting a shot every time with the calculated angle and force is that the ball would have to travel toward the basket with the exact angle and force calculated for that particular shot. What makes this difficult is that the muscles in our body would have to be controlled flawlessly to push the ball with the exact amount of force and to give the ball the exact angle that is needed every time a shot is taken...
In conclusion, it can be stated that basketball is a sport that has a positive influence on individuals from a tender age right through their adulthood. The sport has improved the overall behavior and performance of young adults, teaches them teamwork and persistence. Basketball also brings unity in communities and races alike, and has a constructive influence on the economy as a whole.
Basketball a sport that is played throughout the whole world. When playing this sport all you need is a ball and basket. Though the basket does have to be a certain height kids play it in their classroom or outside. What I mean by this is that kids and even adults in the office treat a trash can as a basket and whatever their trash is as a ball. I got interested in this sport when I was in middle school in eighth grade moving on to high school. I was never interested in basketball until I played it with a group of kids who today are still my friends.
The common lay-up is one of these, it can be on the left or right side of the basket. Not only that, but, you can take a reverse lay-up, meaning you go under the basket and throw the ball up backwards. As you get farther from the basket you will have to bend your knees more and put more force into shooting it. Calculating the amount of force needed is a very tough element when learning to shoot. Furthermore, different spots on the court are worth different points. For instance, behind the three-point line is three points, anywhere else is worth two points. The only exception to that is a free-throw and that is taken when you are fouled, these are worth only one
