After his senior year he was already getting ready for the NFL. During the NFL combine Payton was lighting up the sky, he was impressing many coaches, that almost every single team in the NFL wanted him. So after the combine he met with Chicago Bears head coach, Mike Ditka. Right off the bat Walter Payton knew what team he wanted to be drafted by. Coach Ditka didn’t promise him a starting spot but a good chance for 2nd string. It was time for the NFL draft. And Paul Tagliabue NFL commissioner, came to the podium and said with the 4th overall pick in the 1975 draft, the Chicago Bears select Walter Payton running back of the Jackson State University. Payton was very happy. In his first year in the NFL Payton rushed for 679 yards, and 7 touchdowns. Not much for a rookie running …show more content…
Walter Payton also had a dark side, some journalists were writing that Walter was using drugs, and was one of the causes of his deaths. Payton most of the time was sober, and always passed drug tests (a lot of football players do drug tests, only because of suspicion. Another thing Walter Payton did that a lot of running backs have never done was he never really had any injuries, he participated in 98% of his games in his whole career. “His mother, Dale, felt the same way, for football had become as important to her as it had to her son. She went to every practice, and on Thursday nights she always invited a bunch of the players over for lasagna. She had sobbed after the loss to Lee just as hard as Jerrod had, for she feared the season’s ending every bit as much as he did” (Bissinger 249). Bissinger is astounded by the need for the parents to push their children into sports. Bissinger also analyzes the theme of downfall through several characters.

Bryant took an assistant coaching job at Vanderbilt in 1940 under Red Sanders. He had a falling out with Sanders after one year and, with the help of New York Yankees catcher Bill Dickey, had the inside track for the Arkansas job. (100 years). Bear Bryant got the job, but heard on the radio, soon after that the Japanese bombed pearl harbor. Bear joined the Navy for a couple year, putting his football coaching career on hold (The story of Bear Bryant). After the Navy, Bear Bryant turned the wildcats into winners. His stats were 7-3 his first year coaching them. In 1954, he packed up and headed west to Texas A&M. He had the master formula for success, and wanted to test it out at another school. But Bryant inherited an awful program with few good players. Texas A&M was a tough place to lure players to. No girls, no glamour, military uniforms and, at first glance, the school looked more like a penitentiary than a college campus. Bryant knew he had to force discipline and strictness in order for A&M to compete. One day during summer practice, he loaded the unsuspecting Aggies in two buses to Junction, Texas for what was arguably the toughest training camp in football history. Bear Bryant was
He loved his poodle very much; rubbing her belly whenever she would bark and keeping it warm in his arms during cold days. Unfortunately Daisy died when Zach was seven years old. The years that followed were lonely one because Daisy was his only friend. Zach’s mother abandoned her boyfriend after pregnancy because of his drug addiction and unwillingness to get a job to help pay the bills. At the age of twenty, Zach’s mother had to drop out of college so that she could take care of her son and work long hours to pay the bills. Growing up without a father and watching his mother struggle to put food on the table caused Zach to mature at a young age and cry often. Zach had a hard time making friends during elementary and middle school, so he would hangout with teachers or stay in the library during his free time. It wasn’t until the eighth grade when his P.E. coach showed him the game of football that Zach ever felt truly happy in his life. Zach ran up and down the field releasing all of the bad vibes caused by his peers and depressing situation at home. Throwing footballs gave him a euphoria that increased his self-esteem and cognition on and off the

It was Cyprowski’s first football practice with his new team at his new college. This practice was intense and it was hot. It was a division one school with division one athletes and Cyprowski was the smallest little guy on the team. Being the smallest guy, it’s tough standing out, but one thing he had going for him was being quick. Cyprowski was always the first guy to the ball and when he couldn’t do that anymore, he knew something was wrong.
His family life was not different than anyone else’s. His childhood was no different than most blacks at the time. It was what he did with his life that will forever define him and enshrine him in history. One man can make a difference. The end results come from someone’s determination, heart, and willpower; all of which Thurgood had. While being one of the least talked about people in history, he is arguably the most important in the movement towards racial equality. When comparing him to other heroes of the American Civil Rights Movement and Black history in general, he ranks at the top. Malcom X gets movies made about him. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday gets celebrated as a holiday. What about Thurgood Marshall? Every day people live in the legacy of Marshall’s behavior and choices (Thurgood Marshall Biography). Our life is what it is due to the legacy of Justice
Different people become famous for many different reasons. Whether individuals become famous for sports, music, movies, books, or inventions, everyone who becomes famous does so for a reason. Some of these people have disabilities, but they are just as great. Deaf people are quite well known in society, as there are quite a few of them. Examples include Thomas Edison and Ludwig van Beethoven. Today, one of these people in the entertainment industry is pro NFL (National Football League) football player Derrick Coleman.

Tyronne Gross and Otis Amey, two former NFL players, quickly climbed up the stairs as they buzzed with anticipation, looking forward to how many students they would be able to reach out to during their sixty-minute sojourn at Center High School. As they opened the door of the classroom, exclamations of praise and excitement greeted them. There were over eighty students gathered to hear the stories of these men and their journey through life as Christian athletes. As members of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, they were closely associated with our school's Transformed Bible Club, which I organized. The room quickly grew quiet, so quiet a person could hear their neighbor breathing. We all sat quietly and listened to the message both men brought forth to us.
