Knowledge is said to be the key of success because with it, those who have it are typically more inclined in their fields. Having knowledge can change someone’s perspective of their outlook on life. One may argue that knowing too little too much can cause a life to be lived out in a way other than it is suppose to be. Adam and Eve’s knowledge, or lack thereof, changed the entire universe. Knowing right from wrong leads to decisions that have to be made repeatedly throughout a person’s lifetime. Sometimes those people do not always make the correct decision but that is where knowledge comes from. Knowledge is not something that people are born with, it is not something that people get in one day, and it definitely is not something that people get from books alone. Though he was impeached because of his decision making, he was still sworn in to be president. Clinton journeyed off to college at Georgetown, Oxford University, then switched to Yale to study law. He was very well educated yet, he still made awful decisions in some aspects of his life. Knowledge is not something that just comes from being educated. Gaining knowledge about particular subjects can be learned in schooling yes, but everyone needs a bit of common sense. Sleeping with another women inside of the White House probably has to be one of the most ignorant moves any person can make. In 1998 this was the number one topic you would speak about and to this day thinking back on the 90s this scandal surely comes to mind. Since the start of Hillary’s run for presidency we have been reminded of the mistakes of Bill Clinton that happened over a decade ago forgetting to separate his life from presidency and privacy. From movies and everyday jobs, to life experiences and the classroom,knowledge can be gained. For instance in the movie, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Finnick says, “I haven’t dealt in anything as common as money in years.” Katniss then asks, “Well then how do people pay for the pleasure of your company?” Finnick responds, “With secrets.” (Francis Lawrence The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) Even in everyday jobs, people trade knowledge for a service. Everyone uses knowledge to gain something from undercover agents being informants to an attorney offering reduced sentences or lesser charges to someone under suspicion of a crime. People believe that they are “wise” when they “know” something. A common member of society most often feels that knowledge enables people to feel powerful and misknowledge shows a certain weakness. Thurman explained, “Being right means that the world affirms us in what we think we know. ‘Knowing’ something is a way of controlling it, being able to put it in its proper place in relation to us so that we can use it effectively… So, knowledge is power, in the sense that it empowers us to act successfully. Misknowledge… is weakness, in the sense that our action may fail in their aim, backfire, or have unintended consequences. Knowledge is security, in that we know our vulnerabilities and can avoid harm. Misknowledge is danger, in that we don 't know what others might do to us or what traps may await us. The foundation of valid knowledge depends on one’s personal understanding. To “know” means to understand or be aware. Everyone’s personal knowledge differs and the way we obtain and interpret our knowledge is usually through our spiritual beliefs. In order to gain knowledge I rely on the Word of God. The knowledge of God is the most valuable knowledge a human being can possess. The Word of God can be found in Scripture. Proverbs 2:6 tells us that the Lord gives us wisdom and that the wisdom of God results in knowledge and understanding. But it is also clear that simply being aware of God’s existence is not adequate; the knowledge of God must encompass the profound appreciation for Him and produce a loving and growing relationship with Him.
Rose said that knowledge “enabled me to do things in the world” (Rose 344). I totally agree with it. I believe that knowledge changes people’s lives. If I did not try my best to learn English, I will never get chance to go abroad to study. I always think about that if I stayed in China and still slacked off in English instead of going to U.S. to studying, what kind of life I will live right now? Maybe I will get used to being “average” like some of Rose’s classmates, but I know I will regret so much when I recall my adolescent life if I did not make efforts to pursue knowledge.

Knowledge helps people make conclusions, lets them be skillful, smart, and keeps them aware. People gather knowledge through experience, whether it's from school, mistakes, witnessing a situation, or trying new activities out. Including in “Fahrenheit 451”, the author, Ray Bradbury does an amazing job in explaining and describing to his audience of how society results in a setting without reasonable amounts of knowledge. People in the society of “Fahrenheit 451” begin to lose common sense after the books are prohibited to keep. In the novel 451 Ray Bradbury warns the audience that without knowledge people are manipulated easily. In reality knowledge is the key to surviving.
Our knowledge is a key to our success and happiness in our life to give us personal satisfaction. Knowledge is power but not always. Sometimes our self-awareness and growth as an individual gives us negative thoughts that make us want to go back to undo it. Everyone wants to unlearn a part in our life that brought us pain and problems. Good or bad experiences brought by true wisdom can be used for our self-acceptance, self-fulfillment and these experiences would make us stronger as we walk to the road of our so called “life”, but Douglas’s and my experience about knowledge confirmed his belief that “Knowledge is a curse”. Both of us felt frustrated and sad from learning knowledge.
For us to understand the importance of knowledge, we first have to understand what knowledge is. Knowledge can be given to us by experience with something new or it can be acquired through experience. There is always a purpose for acquiring the information. There is a saying that “knowledge is power.” If you think practically, then knowledge is definitely giving you power to dictate your direction in life.
So to say, knowledge can either make or break a person. It can act as a benefit, for power, or loss, for ignorance. “Do not take for granted what you know. Ask yourself how you know what you know; ask yourself whom it benefits, whom it hurts and why.” (Blackboard: Knowledge is Power)
The quest for knowledge and learning has been occuring since the creation of mankind. Ever since the serpent in the Garden of Eden tempted Eve to eat the forbidden apple from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, promising she would wise as the gods, man has been battling with this endless pursuit. Some men want wisdom so that they may be able to live a good and righteous life. Other men want only the power that knowledge can bring them, to use it for their own sinful purposes.

When I think about knowledge the first thing that comes to my mind is education. I believe that knowledge comes to people by their experiences in life. In other words, life is an instrument that leads me to gain knowledge. Many people consider that old people are wise because they have learned from good and bad experiences throughout their lives. Education requires work, dedication and faith to gain knowledge. We acquired knowledge through the guidance of from parents, role models, college/University teachers and life experiences.
Knowledge allows you to prove your facts. It’s the awareness one has about things. Imaginations, at times, can be uncertain. Knowledge leads us to imagination. We can imagine, only if we know. Knowledge is through your hard work and experience. One should not compare two different poles together.
