Florence Nightingale, the foundational philosopher of modern day nursing, once stated, “I attribute my success to this-I never gave or took any excuses.” My interest in becoming a Nurse Practitioner (NP) stems from the desire to expand my knowledge and skill in such a rewarding profession.

As an advocate for holistic care, it is my hope that furthering my education as a Nurse Practitioner will, not only bring more autonomy but also more flexibility so that I can focus on the holistic needs of the patient and the family. Flexibility will allow me to travel to rural and urban cities to provide care to the deprived population. Nursing denotes creating an environment that fosters critical thinking process, research and reflection about the reality of society.
My philosophy on a graduate NP education includes one that emphasizes essential that help to cultivate a high nurse to a phenomenal nurse. These topics for nursing graduate studies would include ethical leadership, cultural competency, critical thinking, global awareness and civic engagement. Maryville University DNP curriculum provides NURS 703 (Ethics for Advanced Nursing Practice), designed to present ethical principles and decision-making models for the highest level of nursing practice. This course provides me with the opportunity to analyze ethical dilemmas that arise in professional practice through evidence-based nursing and Interprofessional literature.
