Which World War was Greater? World War One and World War Two were both two major wars that significantly changed how the world is today. World War One began to modernize how militaries fought wars; however, World War Two changed the world completely, especially in America. World War Two gave way to civil rights movements, women independence, and increased weapon power. The war allowed African Americans to fight on the fronts alongside the white troops overseas, which sparked the Civil Rights Movement when they returned home to segregation. The women stepped up for the absent males overseas and emerged themselves into the factories to help make supplies and weapons for the war. The new weapons used on the front lines were improved from previous The first lady, Eleanor Roosevelt, said: "The nation cannot expect the colored people to feel that the U.S. is worth defending if they continue to be treated as they are treated now” (“Turning”). This was important because the African Americans were being deprived of their civil rights, yet they still supported The United States during the war. With the draft, many blacks were able to enlist and bring themselves out of poverty. The draft amplified the amount of African Americans present in the military, and with the war worsening the segregation of the troops began to diminish. The desegregation occurred due to the difficulty to keep the troops separated when they were both being destroyed. While the desegregation of the troops was good for the start of the civil rights movement, once these African Americans returned home from war they came back to segregation. This caused an uproar because the men and woman were given more rights fighting for their country abroad, but once they returned from war they came back to While the aircraft was used in WWI, it did not become a major part of fighting until WWII. This weapon created another level of fighting in the air that included bombers, fighters, radar, and the ability to assess the enemy from above. The bomb raids were alternatives to static trench warfare and aircraft weaponry allowed the troops to attack the enemy from above which was the upper hand in fighting battles. The increased amount of bombing increased the need to improve the radar technology. The radar that was previously being used was inaccurate and not very useful; but with the improvements, the military was able to see enemy ships or submarines and fight back. One of the biggest elements that made World War Two more significant than World War One was the use of Nuclear Warfare. The United States dropped the world 's first deployed atomic bomb over Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, and the another bomb over Nagasaki three days later. The Japanese quickly surrendered from the war and thus led to the end of World War Two. America dropping the atomic bomb showed the world how big of a threat the United States is, especially to Russia which was another big nation at the time. The atomic bomb created terror and panic in everyone’s eyes with the fear of mass
For as long as most of the world can remember aviation has played a major factor in how wars are fought. Starting in World War I the worlds fighting forces began using aircraft to conduct surveillance missions over enemy territory. While these aircraft were not the masters of stealth that todays aircraft are there was no technology to take down these planes at the time. Air-to-air combat was an event that rarely happened and was almost never effective.
Over 2.5 million African-American men registered for the draft, and black women also volunteered in large numbers. While serving in the Army, Army Air Forces, Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard, they experienced discrimination and segregation but met the challenge and persevered. They served their country with distinction, made valuable contributions to the war effort, and earned high praises and commendations for their struggles and sacrifices. During World War II (1939-1945) African Americans were fighting for the United States in a segregated Army. They were treated unfairly and fought under harsh circumstances.
...ver, the minority groups started fighting for their rights so as to enjoy their privileges as stipulated by the constitution. The minority groups comprised of African Americans and Hispanics. This led to the formation of a number of civil rights for the African Americans were continually being infringed by the whites. As the USA was fighting against racial discrimination, it was still criticizing communism by the Soviet Union. The president recommended that the senate pass bills that would regard and promote equal rights and privileges for all the American citizens. Despite the failure of the recommendation, Truman, the president then used the executive powers bound to him in the desegregation of the armed forces. This led to the passing of the civil rights act and the voting act in the 1964 and 1965. This allowed for the African Americans to have the right to vote.
From the early and mid 20th century, many significant events happened around the world. Many triggers led to wars between nations. This era, wars were not only involved one or two countries but almost every nation took a role to start the conflict. During this time, WW1 and WW2 occurred. Changes and continuities between the early and mid 20th century were alliances and militarism.
Many new and improved weapons and artillery were brought out during the war. One example of this introduction of new weapons was the long-range rocket. Also during this time, the atomic bomb proved to have a big impact on the war. Along with these new and improved weapons, falls the infamous tanks of World War II (Military History 1). Although some weapons proved to be more important than others, every weapon played an important role in fighting this war.
...t units to serve in the civil war. Most blacks did not care about what the issues of the war was. They joined because it provided a better income which was an alternative way of making money compared to the poorly paid domestic labor that most blacks had endure. The civil war resulted in the 13th Amendment of the Constitution which abolished slavery all together. Although black soldiers fought in the war which eventually ended slavery, they still did not have civil rights. The whites did not want to share political power with African Americans. This had brought about the 14th and 15th Amendments to the Constitution. African Americans were now guaranteed civil rights. This change opened doors for African Americans so that they can progress and excel in the political system. Public schools were now established and access to jobs outside domestic labor was now available.
World War II brought much technological advancement that changed the way war was waged; however, the invention of the aircraft carrier was the most important advancement which actually began at the end of World War I. After the plane was invented it was soon used for reconnaissance and then pilots eventually dropped bombs from them and eventually weapons were shot from them at other planes and ground troops. After improvements such as more powerful engines, lighter materials, and weapons synchronized to the speed of the propeller came the new method of transporting planes and using their firepower overseas with the aircraft carrier. Aircraft carriers transformed the methods used to fight battles during World War II because Army and Marine Infantrymen had air support while raiding axis countries and islands which would not have been available because of fuel limitations of aircraft. A pivotal demonstration of aircraft carrier usage in World War II was the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. The Imperial Japanese Navy launched several waves of torpedo planes and dive bombers to attack the cruisers, destroyers, and battleships at Pearl Harbor as well as fighter planes and hangars in order to crush the United States’ naval power. The ultimate objective of Pearl Harbor; however, was to destroy the United States’ aircraft carriers because Japan knew about the tactical advantages of having aircraft carriers as well as the industrial capacity of the United States to make more warships and weapons. “Since Pearl… Japan’s industrial base could
Prior to World War I there was much social, economic, and political inequality for African Americans. This made it difficult for African Americans to accept their own ethnicity and integrate with the rest of American society. By the end of World War II however African Americans had made great strides towards reaching complete equality, developing their culture, securing basic rights, and incorporating into American society.
The New York City Draft Riots of 1863 were the cause of a lot of new laws, proclamations, etc. Back then nobody looked at “blacks” as citizens, basically you were not considered normal. Even middle class men were not given all their rights. A lot of people do not realize that the world did not get this diverse this easy. All sorts of groups had to pay the price and suffer to get the world where it is today. And really, if you ask anyone what the riot in New York is about, they will just stare at you. True, blacks were free but that did not make them like anybody else. Since the number of soldiers was going down in the Civil War, the United States Congress passed a legislation that made all the middle class men, black men, and most able-bodied men between the age of 20 and 35 to serve three years of service in war. Causing all these men to rage and attack the people getting out of it. You have money? Well you did not have to go. Which the other men that had no money to get out of it started taking their anger out on the people that could.[ ] It is probably one of the only times were the rich would try to disclaim their status from fear of what these men were going to do. Buildings, houses, properties, and even people were getting burnt and demolished from the people that were not even being considered in the community.
The military since the Colonial Era has been an impetus for social reform in the United States. The Revolutionary War afforded Black Americans an opportunity to escape from the toils of slavery and fight for freedom. Some Black Americans even earned their freedom by fighting for the Colonists, but still the freedom they fought for wasn’t their own. However, the military was responsible for the freedom of many slaves and some of these freed slaves became legendary soldiers like Salem Poor. His performance in battle gave credibility for future arguments about blacks being allowed to serve.
World War II and The Revolutionary war have many things in common with each other.World War II is a well known war and it lasted from 1939-1945. The Revolutionary war is also a well known war that lasted from 1775-1783. In the Revolutionary War it was between the American and British but many people got involved with the war.In World War II it was between the Jews and Nazi but many people helped the jews than the nazis. The first contrast is the technology that they had when they went to war.
African Americans participated and contributed to the outcome of World War II. They were part of the force that fought for justice in the War and when they came back home, they realized their world, from a social point of view, was still the same; this made it look like their efforts weren’t enough. African Americans and other ethnic groups such as Latinos, or Asians proved during WWII that their abilities were part of their great efforts and not just their skin color. The belief that something in society had to be changed lingered in the depths of African Americans, but after WWII, many of those beliefs started to resurface and became part of the push for a reform movement.
The Vietnam War was a rough time for many soldiers. Memories of home, loved ones, comfort, happiness, a normal life, everything was left behind to do their duties as soldiers. They carried with them many mementos of their life at home; that way they had some kind of life to hang onto to give them the hope and comfort they needed to keep themselves pushing forward. Though, many others have done the same and kept objects to hold onto to remind themselves that there is hope and that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Despite the Vietnam War and World War I taking place during different time periods, these two wars are extremely similar because of the way they are presented in history.
During the war, men were off fighting for America, and the women were left behind to take over their jobs in the factories. Women proved that they can do almost all of the same jobs as men. Rosie the Riveter, a picture of a woman flexing with a caption of “We Can Do It,” became the symbol for women all across the nation. After the war, years later, women began to receive equal pay for the same jobs that the men were doing. Many other minority groups, such as African Americans, played a huge
A lot of families had to leave from becoming a traditional family to a single parent family because their love one has died in the war. I was also around the time when women fought for rights. In addition, the great movement for African Americans from the south to the north to work in the factories because a lot of men were killed at war and they needed people to replace the white factory workers. People had to adjust to work environments due to women working due to the lack of men that did not return from the war. And those that did returned from the war wanted their jobs back and that there were women working in their workplace. Women where so use to making factory money now versus making $15 dollars a week being a maid and a housekeeper compared to making $40 a week working in the factory. Women had to leave the factories, but they did not leave happy so they started a women’s right movement.
