What Treatments can be given to those with Hearing loss?
Aim
The aim is to learn about the treatments available for those who are hearing impaired. This essay will be looking at how the current treatments help, how it has evolved from the past, what is done to improve it.
Summary
There has to be an understanding of how the ear works, what hearing loss is before looking at the treatments for hearing loss. Hence the essay will go through how the ear works and what causes hearing loss first. Then it will explain the diagnosis process before focusing on the treatments. the essay will be exploring the past, current and the possible future treatments. The essay will also touch upon other ways in which hearing impaired people cope with hearing loss.

This type of hearing loss is permanent.Causes of Sensorineural Hearing Loss:
Loud noises a common cause of hearing. Constant exposure to loud noises such as noises made by drilling equipments and very loud music, causes the gradual damage of the hair cells in cochlea. Exposure to thunderous noise of explosions can cause sudden hearing loss.
Age is also a common cause of hearing loss, Over time the hair cells in the cochlea gradually gets damaged, hence hearing deteriorates.Hearing loss occurs in old people as by this time most of the hair cells are damaged.
Hearing loss can be due inherited genetics. Hearing loss may be found in the family history and may have been inherited. There are many disorders that are are due to inherited genes. Examples include Usher syndrome, stickler, Waardenburg syndrome, pendred syndrome. certain defections in genes can also cause hearing loss, such as connexin 26 deafness. In some cases hearing loss may be due to
Deafness is described as a partial or total inability to hear. It can be caused by many different factors like aging, exposure to noise, illness, or chemicals and physical trauma or any combination of these. A hearing test called audiometry can be used to determine the severity of the hearing impairment. There are several measures that can be taken to prevent hearing loss; however, in some cases due to disease, illness, or genetics, deafness is impossible to prevent or reverse. Based on how severe of a hearing impairment a person has depends on what kind of treatment they receive for a hearing impairment (Battey.)
People of all ages are affected by hearing loss. It’s one of the most common chronic conditions in the U.S., affecting over nine millions Americans over 65 and 10 million Americans between 45 to 64.
When a person thinks of an example of a disability, they usually associate physical features with it. But a disability can be invisible or very well coped with that many may not define them as a disability. An example of a disability that is often dismissed or misunderstood is deafness or hearing impairment. Deafness is defined as a hearing impairment that is so severe that the child is impaired in processing linguistic information through hearing, with or without amplification that adversely affects a child’s educational performance (Dussault, 2003, p2). Bing aware of the disability and the different outcomes is important because there are different levels of deafness. “Hearing impairment” means impairment in hearing, whether permanent or fluctuating, that adversely affects a child’s educational performance but that is not included under the definition of deafness in this section. (Dussault, 2003, p2) This as well can bring complications to the quality of life but the complications can always be overcome.
Frequently, people encounter others that may have presbycusis and do not understand why the person with this impairment has difficulty hearing them. Presbycusis is not a world known impairment in individuals. Yet, even though it is often an unknown impairment, it is an important problem in society. Information on presbycusis along with its causes and different management techniques will be discussed in detail throughout this paper.

The people in the following list all have something in common: Whoopi Goldberg, Pete Townshend (lead guitarist of The Who), Huey Lewis, Helen Keller, Ludwig Van Beethoven, and Thomas Edison. If you were unable to guess, all of these people had a hearing loss. In terms of formal definition, a hearing loss is, “a spectrum of disorders causing a disruption or distortion of auditory information reaching or being processed by the central nervous system.” Hearing losses not only effect adults or the elderly, they are also prevalent among children. As future teachers, we should understand everything that accompanies a hearing loss considering we may have a few children with this disability through our careers as educators.
Hearing issues can affect balance in the workplace, this is terrible as it can have an impact on both the employee and the company.
This objective was met through reading articles and textbook readings. During our article reading when each of us having to read and interpret articles with different types of hearing loss, I got to learn about areas in childhood hearing loss that are understudied and need more research. For instance, in the article about children with minimal hearing loss, little research was conducted because children with moderate to profound hearing loss is much more prevalent and researched than children with minimal hearing
Hearing loss is an impairment which causes deafness or the inability to hear sounds, either totally or partially. Symptoms of hearing loss may be mild, severe or profound. (medicalnewstoday) When the case is mild, an individual may experience issues with the understanding of speech. This may be a particular problem when there is background noise. In cases when the hearing loss is moderate, a patient may require the assistance of a hearing aid. Some individuals who are deaf must depend on lip-reading to communicate with those around them. Sign language is primarily used by those who are profoundly deaf. It is more difficult for those who are born deaf to learn how to lip read than for those who have become hearing impaired after learning to communicate with sound. (medicalnewstoday) There are various diseases which can cause deafness. Some of these include chicken pox, cytomegalovirus, mumps, meningitis, sickle cell disease, syphilis, Lyme disease, and

Imagine a world without sound; the inability to hear a mother’s voice as she speak, the inability to hear the tune to the best song in the world, the inability to hear the laugh of friends and close people, the inability to hear the breeze of the wind and the birds chirping, the inability to hear anything. In many cases this is true, many people are completely deaf, and others have some form of hearing loss; which can range from mild to severe hearing loss. Deafness is something millions of people struggle with around the world, but still they seem to be oppressed in the world.
Viral infections such as Toxoplasmosis, Syphilis, Rubella, Herpes, and Cytomegalovirus have been known to increase the risk of hearing loss, although many virus carrying parents have had perfectly healthy babies. There are medications that are identified as risk factors that may affect hearing including antibiotics like gentamycin, tobramycin, kanamycin, and streptomycin.
According T.J. Winpenny in his book Values of the Environment, we have to choose between health and well being on the one hand, and the commercial and public services, on the other. Generally, it is very important to know how noise affects us and how can we protect ourselves from the harm it is doing. No matter what kind of noise it is, it still affects us in a similar way. It is scientifically proved that the noise level of 85 decibels can damage hearing if the noise continues for eight hours or more (Noise watch, web.) Loud noise wrecks hearing by damaging the delicate mechanisms of the inner ear that convert sound information into nerve signals. The most common thing for people who are often exposed to loud noise is tinnitus or ringing in the ears. Reports of tinnitus experienced by young people exposed to loud music have increased three times since the early 1980s.
Conductive hearing loss is commonly caused by otitis media with effusion or malformation of the middle ear structures or atresia of the external auditory canal. Sensorineural hearing loss may result from intracranial infection, hemorrhage, kernicterus, pendred syndrome, Waardenburg syndrome, usher syndrome, meningitis, hypoxia and toxic drugs.
