In life there are characteristics that set people apart. One of the things that come in mind are how someone looks different or has a different personality, but that 's everyone. It could be what you do or what you are. A German person is unalike a Korean person. The biggest difference would be, their race obviously, but it can also be the way that they look; they obviously have different facial features, but what makes them German and Korean are two totally different things. In this essay I am going to be giving my opinion on what makes someone and American. This essay could be about what makes a German, a German? Or what makes a Mexican, a Mexican? It 's all in the traits that are common throughout the country. In my opinion the three biggest …show more content…
A lot of countries probably would probably view America as a place that struggles controlling their eating; they are right to think so. They are not wrong for doing so. America has the highest obesity rate in the world. The percentage rate of adults being overweight or obese are 68.5%; that is horrible! The numbers for adolescents are 31.8%, and for low-income preschoolers are 30.4%. As you can tell by the numbers, Most Americans have problems with their eating. It is hard to control what you eat, I feel because, there is a lot of good food out there that you want to eat but, there are a lot of calories. No one wants to eat food that does not taste good; I sure despise doing that. What I think draws people to eat all of those greasy foods are all those fast food restaurant commercials with the big greasy hamburgers. Having all those fast food restaurants is why I think, obesity is a big issue in America. This obesity problem reminds me of the movie Wall-e, in which everyone in America is obese and floating around; of coarse that probably will not happen because there is still people in the world that like to stay in shape and like to keep their figure in order. That is why I think obesity is an American trait because Americans are the ones that have the most problem with …show more content…
If you live in America and you do not like guns, then I feel as if you are an outcast. Guns are everything for America, they are what makes you feel secure (it can also make you feel unsafe or insecure), makes you feel alive and happy. Guns make people feel secure because that is a weapon that is very effective for protection. An example would be someone is trespassing in your property, or they are trying to harm your family, a gun can help scare the person or thing that is putting them in danger. Although guns can be very helpful, like in the situations I just elucidated, guns can also be harmful. Guns can be harmful because people can use them to kill other people or be used to threaten someone; they can even hurt people, by going off accidentally. Most Americans however use guns to bring joy to themselves. What am I talking about? I am talking about hunting. Although guns are not the only thing that hunters use, it is the most preferred (the other weapon would be the bow and arrow or crossbow). Hunting for Americans is like a sport. The animal that most Americans hunt is deer. Deer is not the only animal that you can hunt, it can be moose, ducks, pheasants, etc.; it can reasonably be any wild animal out there. Hunters wait every year for hunting season, which is in the winter. Hunting season is one of the most anticipated events of the year, mostly north of
Studies have linked obesity to many things from ear infections, to pollution, to air-conditioning, to socializing with obese people. The reason Americans are obese is because of the increasing luxury available to them. Obesity is a rising problem in the United States, and with all the privileges given to its citizens, the country has become increasingly lazy. With portion sizes rising and physical activity decreasing, it is easy to see how obesity rates have skyrocketed.
Other countries rely on taste and what their mood is to decide what to eat. An example of this is when you look at the French eating habits. Pollan claims that we Americans refer to the French eating habits as the “French Paradox” (Our National Eating Disorder) but, we are the only ones that use this claim, if anything, we should be labeled as the American Paradox. The French eat in smaller portions, choose what they want to eat, and also make eating a gathering and an enjoyable event. The French are also overall thinner than Americans, have lower rates of heart disease and you could also say they enjoy the activity of eating more than Americans. It can be concluded that America's dietary exercises of choosing what to eat by the scientific information of the food is not working as well as the French way of eating, which is eating what they want. It can also be assumed that even though we Americans believe we are eating healthy, it actually negatively affects our health considering how obese America is compared to the
American and German sports cultures have various similarities and differences. Sports are a big part of both of our cultures but the sports that are valued the most do differ. America and Germany have influenced each other with sports that they play and the exercise techniques we both use. Both cultures are known for a great successful history of sports with many different famous individuals and teams coming from each country.
The debate over firearms has been polarized for too long. Gun law is a never-ending issue because there hardly is any true debate. Americans (and even gun owners) do support the governments efforts to make sure guns are less dangerous in violent hands, but that is the main problem-the guns getting in the wrong human hands. Millions of law-abiding Americans do own and do enjoy their guns. But criminals and sometimes-disconcerted kids often use firearms to kill. The use of firearms has increased tremendously. An average day in Los Angeles is four people dying in a gun related crime and the United States faces approximately 87 deaths a day. There are more than 200 million guns in circulation in the United States and if you don’t own a firearm, chances are that your neighbor or friend does (Fineman 27). Sure, the Founding Fathers incorporated the Second Amendment as “the right to keep and bear arms,” but it did not give the distinction of using guns to kill more children and people than anywhere in the world.
Obesity is an epidemic in America. Fast food can be compared to the same type of mindless addiction as cigarettes, and can be equally as dangerous. Not only is there a problem with fast food restaurants, but the food industry as a whole. Slaughterhouses that control 80% of the market produce meat in such a way that is not healthy for consumption, in turn the products are doused in harmful chemicals and still served to the public. No wonder the obesity rate in America is 69% and rising. Obesity is a true problem in our country- people are neglecting their health and quite literally eating themselves to death.
Take a look at the history of our country and the role guns have played in it. According to the second amendment gun ownership is perfectly legal and guaranteed as a right. There were and are good reasons for this, luckily they are still practiced today. Back in the day guns used to be for hunting and, on the occasion self defense. But when the colonists of this country had enough of British rule, they picked up there own personal guns and went to war and the British saw first hand how powerful the rough band of average American gun owners were. Our forefathers knew that the general population if armed would be key in winning the war. And it was.
One of the most unhealthy diets in the world is that of an American. It is made up of processed foods and a good amount of television. America easily has the most fast food restaurants in the entire world. Leave it to McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Burger King or any other fast-food restaurant to serve extremely cheap and even unhealthier food at any time during the day or night. ”It tastes good so why not?” That seems to be the question many people are asking now-a-days. Because it is so easily accessible and processed, it is made to be very tasty and extremely unhealthy. Many Americans find his or herself indulging on the these fatty foods of America on a day-to-day basis. While it may taste good at the time, it has a terrible effect on your body on a long-term basis. Eat it regularly, and it becomes a nasty and deadly habit and can cause heart failure, Type 2 Diabetes, high cholesterol, high-blood pressure, and many other life threatening complications to the body. The American diet has a numerous amount of pitfalls and disgusting habits. The American diet is one of the worst diets because of its portions, processed foods, and how it is very cheap, but the American diet can be overcome with determination, a healthy diet, and an exercise routine.
Many people have asked the question, and many others have been asked, ‘What is the greatest country in the world?’ Or, if you live in America, ‘Why is America the greatest country in the world?’ Many people answer this by saying things such as freedom, our education, diversity, etc., while others may say the people who live here, namely, Americans. Yet few are able to sufficiently answer the next question, ‘What makes a person an American?’ Many will say that living here makes you an American. Yet they seem to forget about the thousands, if not millions, of illegal immigrants that are living in our country. Are they Americans just because they are living in our country? Our federal government does not agree, which is why we have several laws concerning the deportation of illegal immigrants. Others, who see past the simple idea of living here as a means of being an American, may say that your characteristics help to define you as an American. Yet the most agreeable answer would be a combination of the two. An American would be someone who lives in America legally, and also holds within themselves various characteristics, which among these include an over-abundance of confidence,
There is an American consensus for some form of gun control. “…[F]irearms were involved in two-thirds of all murders in the United States and [t]he United States leads the world's richest nations in gun deaths…murders, suicides, and accidental deaths due to guns - according to a study published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the International Journal of Epidemiology” (Lepore). There might be some far extreme people who think that all guns should be banned but most sane Americans do not think that gun rights should be abolished. Americans regard self-defense as the most compelling reason to have a gun and twenty-two percent of households have handguns in the United States. However many people do think that gun control laws must be enacted and enforced. Pro-gun extremists and the National Rifle Association’s (NRA) must understand that there is a real for many people at the uncontrolled s...
Over the past few decades gun control has come to the fore front of debate in politics and the mass media. It's no wonder that in the wake of the recent school shootings and attacks on churches that people are beginning to fear guns. People are beginning to see guns as an object of death and destruction and not as what they are meant to be. While guns are used in war they are not intended to kill innocent people, guns are intended to be used by experienced gun handlers for protection and hunting. When used properly a gun is no more dangerous than a car or a knife, all of these can be used in crime but none of them are intended to be.
In America guns have been a part of the country since its birth. Throughout history, people of the US have used guns to protect our nation, their families, to hunt for food. The issue of guns and gun control takes on a fraction of problems in the world. Weighing the rights and liberties of individuals against the welfare and safety of the public has always been a risky balancing act. In the United States, gun control is one of these issues that has both sides firmly stated in their positions.
Most Americans do not care enough to take a look at the nutritional values of the food that he or she is consuming. That is why America has the highest percentage of obesity in the world. This is a serious problem because one in every three adults is obese, and one in every six children is obese. There are many factors that go into the regular American diet, but most of those factors are not appealing nor is it healthy. Americans put way too much processed food into their daily diet. Some would say that other countries diets superior the American diet because of nutritional values that it carries. Other countries have proven that an active lifestyle is a huge element in the average weight of the country. There are many things that Americans could change about their diets and lifestyle that would help them to become healthier.
People living in the United States are known for eating unhealthy. More than one-third of adults in United States are struggling with obesity. People need to know how important it is to eat healthy food and avoid obesity in their lives. To be healthy, people need to control what they are eating and be active. There are three things that are causing people in United States to eat poorly and unhealthy. Lack of time to cook, expense of food, and dining out rather than staying at home to eat are reasons to eating unhealthy.
“More than one third of America’s population is obese, which is about 35.4% including: men, women, and children” (www.cdc.gov). Unfortunately, this statistic is 100% true. America is hungry, constantly. This definitely shows that the land of liberty is growing in the midsection; no, not the Midwest, on the bellies of the people who live throughout the nation. America has a typical hierarchy of factors who rule the over the obese population. Junk food, lack of mobility, and undereducated knowledge of a healthy lifestyle, often contradict the fate of an obese person.
To begin with the more positive side of things, guns have been necessary for acquiring food for centuries. Without firearms, hunting big game animal’s single handedly would be almost impossible. Nowadays hunting has turned into more of a sport than anything but in the frontier of Alaska firearms are all they have to acquire food and protect themselves. To take away firearms for those people would be simply stealing their live from them, unable to survive, and they would probably die within weeks.
