This for me was a very hard question to answer due to the fact that its an opinion, and there are very many types of writing. Different structures, ideas, metaphors, and concepts. You have to remember to ask, whether the writing in itself is good in my point of view or not, has to answer to my specific guidelines which in your case might not be the same. The first and foremost of the many guidelines is how the author set's up the introductory sentence or better yet, the hook. If the author for example, is writing a cook-book, his first sentence should be appealing to the sense of taste. For example, If you are writing on how to bake a chocolate cake, you can sound appealing by saying, it will almost feel like you added a hint of heaven into the concoction to leave you with a smooth, sensational, melting taste on your lips. Without having the spice of detail in your words you will sound dull and narrow which in some case's is fine as long as you get across to a point, but if you are writing something just to keep the reader entertained, you have to keep them there.

What Makes Good Writing? Essay

- ... But are there other things to consider. Here is where my research comes. The first person who I interviewed was my father, he mentioned that Dr. David Sapir, who is a linguist, and professor of anthropology at the University of Virginia, once told him that “Languages change, and so do the writing”. This phrase allows me to think that Dr. Sapir was right, that if languages change and writing changes, then why do we stick to the old-school writing rules. My idea is not to make people forget about spelling, grammar or the writing rules that we are taught in school, but not to stick to them....   [tags: Writing, Writer, Alphabet, Paper]

Writing a Personal Narrative Essay

- Purpose and Audience Personal narratives allow you to share your life with others and vicariously experience the things that happen around you. Your job as a writer is to put the reader in the midst of the action letting him or her live through an experience. Although a great deal of writing has a thesis, stories are different. A good story creates a dramatic effect, makes us laugh, gives us pleasurable fright, and/or gets us on the edge of our seats. A story has done its job if we can say, "Yes, that captures what living with my father feels like," or "Yes, that’s what being cut from the football team felt like." Structure There are a variety of ways to structure your narrative story....   [tags: Personal Narrative Writing]

- Themewriting is Writing Itself In deciding as to what I would write my paper on, I ran through the various topics that were discussed in class. Being that the paper topics were left to our discretion, gave me a feeling of confusion and frustration. Good Writing Essay

- Good Writing What is good writing and who writes well. In my college essay writing class we have looked at three famous writers from different ages who are considered to be good writers—Seneca the Younger (3-65 A.D.), Plutarch (46-120 A.D.), and Michael de Montaigne (1533-1592 A.D.). Although they are from different times and places, these writers mastered the art of good writing. Writing Style Essay

- Writing Style I hear inner Strunk and White voices of “don’t overwrite”, “write in a way that comes naturally,” and so forth, going through my head. I have visions of endless Williams examples and illustrations on clarity. I see weeks of blog writings flashing through my memory. From all of this, I now own and believe in a firm and personal definition of what style is and what good writing entails. William Strunk and E.B. White’s book The Elements of Style, along with Joseph M. Williams’s book Style Toward Clarity and Grace helped lead me to this point, which is: what is the point....   [tags: Writing Style Styles Essays]
